Because I'm confused. If Roman is champion going into the rumble event, does that mean someone pins him they become champ, someone pins them, they become champ? sort of like the hardcore battle royal back in the attitude era?

I imagine the rules don't change at all.

could a MITB holder theoretically "cash in" his briefcase and force Roman to exit the ring over the top rope

Whoever is last in the rumble is the champ - no pins.

No one is currently holding the MITB briefcase, as Sheamus used his.

So that means if the person who last stands is champ, who faces them at Wrestlemania, The Royal Rumble has no purpose anymore.

I'm sure they will work on that with the PPV after the Rumble.

Probably decided in a Chamber match or some shit.

I miss the No Chance in Hell themed Rumble, why can't Vince enter it and screw Roman? that'd bring back memories.

Seems pretty simple to me. The winner of the Rumble becomes the champ. It's like the 1992 Rumble, except there's an actual champion heading into it. Just a big title match. That's a better prize than most Rumbles.

Exactly, all except one other

Damn the '92 rumble was so fucking good. I don't even think it's just for nostalgic reasons. Just seemed so good.

This is actually good for the February PPV. Last year they randomly had Reigns put his title shot on the line, which was lame and kinda made the rumble feel pointless. Other times they headline it with a match where like 5 guys get a title shot despite losing the Royal Rumble, which is also retarded.

At least this year, they are avoiding those problems.

Yeah, who would have ever thought that Fastlane would make the most sense ever?

I read that they are going to do a reverse Rumble where all the action starts on the outside and the first person to make his way into the ring is the champion.

No, since Sheamus cashed in @ Survivor Series, beating Reigns in 5:15.

They had a good set up when they had two world titles. The Rumble winner could get one title shot and the Feb PPV could determine who gets the other title shot.

Better with only one world title overall, but it makes the Feb Network Special kinda useless.

I always liked the Elimination Chamber being sandwhiched between Rumble and Mania. I think you can tell an effective storyline where the Final 6 guys in the Rumble are involved in the road to Mania. The Rumble winner goes right to Mania as the challenger. But the remaining 5 go into the Chamber where the title is defended by the champ.

I think that also tells the story that it's difficult being the champ, and highlights why it's even more important to be the last man standing at the Rumble.

World Heavyweight Championship never mattered as much as the WWE title anyway. Things are just fine the way they are now. WWE has even acknowledged that they basically used the WHC to identify the leader of the locker roo for whichever brand held it during the brand split era (2002-c. 2012). The guys that held it aren't evem officially considered past world champions by the company. That's GOT to tell you something.
