View Full Version : Tommy Dreamer wasn't so great

I really loved ECW growing up, but I never really got into Tommy Dreamer. I tried my best, but he never impressed. His matches with Justin Credible were very unappealing as I recall.

Feel like Dreamer should have been part of the FBI, like as a bodyguard.

Thoughts?

Feel like he spoke to angsty teens, but his work has not aged well.

His feud with Raven was spectacular.

The guy wasn't super talented or anything but he found his niche and managed to become a star. God bless him or whatever.

Dreamer was incredible. My favourite wrestler in ECW. He really got you to care about him.

All I ever cared about dreamer doing was that he married that hot porn bitch

I've been quite indifferent to his professional wrestling career (which is a very horrible thing to say). Other than that, I found him quite annoying on Cabana's podcast (not sure when it aired).

He was great in his role in ECW. As mentioned, the feud with Raven is classic.

He was pretty good that one time the Undertaker made him drink his dip spit.

Well, he did win the (WW)ECW title on some PPV right before his contract was supposed to run out...overall he was pretty solid.

I don't think ECW has aged well. Like, anyone.

I think that's valid. I didn't "care" about Taz or any of my other favorites, they were just neat characters and fun to watch. I tried thinking about anyone who I half-cared about and the only person I could think of was New Jack early on in ECW when he was wrestling to pay for a headstone for his nephew.

Tajiri, awesome, did not care about him.
Sandman, RVD, (Late) Mikey Whipwreck, Justin Credible, Lance Storm, Face Raven, Jerry Lynn etc. None of them ever made me care, Dreamer had that going for him I guess.

I fucking HATED Justin Credible during his Dreamer feud. Probably the last heel I truly hated before I developed into full blown smark. I was so pissed when he won the title from Dreamer.

Btw, what in your opinion was the better feud: Dreamer vs Raven or Sandman vs Raven? I'd argue Sandman vs Raven and it's not close.

I think when Dreamer FINALLY got his revenge on Raven it worked better, but Sandman and Raven had, by far, the better feud. Also better matches.

I just can't wrap my head around that people who actually watched ECW while it was on, especially between 1996-1997 did not care for Dreamer.

maybe that's why, I only came to watch in late 97.

The storylines are what made Dreamer great. You got so emotionally invested in Dreamer that it bumped his matches up a notch.

I remember how bad the storylines got in 99...

Their first PPV Barely Legal was sadly the highpoint of the company.

He always got the great video packages showing how bad he got his ass kicked when he got injuried.

He was awesome.

Can't find his great ECW "This is my flag promo" but it was great. DTTS you're wrong!

Dreamer was the fucking man.

I think getting the video game deal was also pretty big. I mean both of the games sucked dick but they had video games.

I really have to re-watch some of his Original ECW stuff though.

I hated most of his WWE run outside of a match with RVD, ONS 1 & 2.

Some of his Indy stuff more recently in 2015 I've really enjoyed. The mother fucker is hardcore, still taking suplerplexes off the top rope onto steel guard rails and the like.

Plus, his match on RAW with the Dudley Boys against the Wyatt's was fucking awesome.

He came back to RAW? That's cool.

Dreamer was a good character, but a shit wrestler.

Dreamer was a good character, but a shit wrestler.

which could be said about most of the ECW lifers.... Dreamer was passable as an in-ring performer, but he had the empathy/fan connection factor i spades....

Near the end they had a lot of really talented indie guys though. And their less talented guys had gotten used to working together to the point where they could put on amazing matches. Tajiri V. Super Crazy V. Little Guido etc.

For like 1 or 2 matches. Guess they really thought people didn't remember his "retirement" on ECW c. 2010...

I thought his feud w/Christian over the ECW championship was pretty good by WWECW standards.

He was a home town baby face for an indy promotion that made it big, and drug him along with it.
