View Full Version : Kevin Owens is now champion cough Universal Champion

Whoever wrights this shite, needs to stop being a bitch, and write it at the correct moment in time, they should have placed the WWE Championship on KO when he held the IC Title. rather than making him the Universal Champion. This new title belt means nothing. it's just another way of cash grabbing social media. I'm all happy he's become champion though, and I wish him luck.
I predict he will face Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania or even GRIM!!!

I think Owens is credible enough to be Universal Champion I just didn't like the way he won it. I like that Rollins will be a face now I just think that given it's a new title and it's longest reign is by Vacant they should have just let the match end clean to establish the title. Other than that I like Owens as the champion although I wish he would have went over Zayn at Battleground.

Owen's is one of the best guys on the roster period. So he is a deserving champion, however it's crazy to me that Vince let this happen. He looks horrible, and there is no doubting that, sure he overcomes that but in order for that to happen you have to invest some time into watching his segment. He's certainly not going to stop channel changers, unless they are in disbelief at the fan who holds the title.
Still though, for me, it's pretty fucking exciting. I look forward to his interactions with Triple H and possibly some kind of attire change. It can't be tights, you put him in tights and he looks like a local job guy.

But isn't this angle with Owen/Rollins/HHH/Steph/Foley new territory and exciting?
I can see anyone who would say "no it's not new territory, same story different players" which could be true but we can't say for sure.
Who is the babyface here? It's going to be really exciting either way.

I'm fine with that, he's been a legitimate Intercontinental champion and has progressed up the card. I don't like that Balor was the first champion and think that hurt the Universal Championship more than Owens. Smartest choice would have been Rollins so a recent WWE World Champion was it's first holder. Then they could have had HHH screw Rollins out of the title for Owens.

Yeah, hate to see a guy get hurt, but honestly, Owens is much more credible.
I could see Joe or Nakamura coming in and winning the title that soon due to their presence and charisma, but not Balor.

Yeah, I love watching some of that stuff, but the majority of WWE's audience hasn't, so it's really irrelevant when discussing owen's credibility as wwe champ.
That said, even though he has been in the midcard, it's almost all been relatively high profile programs, and they've kept him looking really strong throughout, so owens winning didn't feel out of place at all.

Yeah all that doesn't mean anything in WWE. Seems like if it didn't happen in Japan they don't care about championships won in other companies. They mention AJ winning titles in every company he's been in but only name drop the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

I disagree. It means a owner/booker is saying I trust this guy with my company. If anything it means MORE than being a WWE Champion because success/failure does really mean the success of the company and could mean bankruptcy.
Also if a guy sucks at AAA they don't make it to the MLB. So, it means everything too.
Fignuts
08-31-2016, 08:47 PM
Yeah, but it means jack shit to most of the people who watch that MLB team. That's the point we are making. We're not saying it doesn't mean anything at all. We're saying that it it doesn't men anything to the the audience which Owen's is trying to appear credible in front of. People like us, who are knowledgable about indy feds, make up a very small percentage of tje fanbase. The rest make their opinions based solely on wwe television.

I'm in wait-and-see mode. Vince Russo thinks it's a bad idea, which means it's probably a good idea. Interesting that Jim Cornette is probably more Kevin Owens than Russo, when you really think about it.
I like the idea of there being a new champion. Seth Rollins flopped as a heel champion last year. He had terrible booking, but is anyone really yearning to see Rollins with another belt doing that fake laugh for months on end? Big Cass would probably flounder in the role. Roman Reigns would also be more of the same. Owens winning was the right call, but he probably could have done it by pinning Rollins, with Reigns then calling out Owens punk-card the next week "You ain't beat me yet, fat boy." Rollins vs. Zayn then writes itself.
BUT -- Ultimate Opportunist Owens, while the same character as Rollins and Edge before him, might be able to get some traction. He reminds me a lot of The Rock, and he must be doing something right to get Vince McMahon, of all people, on side with his image. What is going to be crucial is the strength of the faces they put him against.
That's why it's wait-and-see for me. Because if this means that Rollins is going to be cast in the role he should have returned as -- avenging babyface -- then it might work out to some degree. If they have Rollins walk out, shake Owens' hand because he's afraid to go to war with him, then it might suck shit.

why the hell did they pin that belt on that worthless sack of crap?
what the hell has he done to deserve it, who has he beaten?
his win loss record isn't that great to pin a world title on himthat like putting lipstick on a pig it makes no sense.
he's not universal champion material.
i.c. title maybe u.s. belt possibly but the raw world champion no.
only good thing that came out of this is seth rollins isnt champ and triple h is gonna get his ass handed to him by roman.

Nobody bought Rollins at first either. And, if they had just stopped selling him as a main eventer/champion after about 4 months, nobody would be into it now, either. Hopefully, they lead Owens down a path to become credible, instead of making him yet another chicken-shit heel who can't win on his own like every other heel champion. Hopefully they continue his "prizefighter" gimmick ("ducking" challenges because they weren't on *his* terms, but still being able to back up being champion when it counts) and it isn't just something relegated to selling shirts.
And Balor had one match and got hurt. Calm down with that "he wasn't credible" mess, you size queens.

I saw Kevin Owens take a bump one week, and his shirt rode up. Owens reached down to adjust it to cover his gut, because he knows the mystique goes if people see him without a shirt on. If he doesn't believe that, Vince McMahon and/or Triple H does.

I was thinking about the Cesaro/Sheamus Best of Seven Series. It'd make sense for it to be for a Universal Title shot, because all of this for a US Title match in 2016 is a bit much. Logic would dictate that Cesaro would win the series and get something resembling a push coming out of it, but with bad booking being the new good booking, maybe it'd be better to give the entire thing to Sheamus, galvanize people behind Cesaro (since it is obvious he should win it) and have Owens vs. Sheamus at Survivor Series in Toronto?
The crowd is going to hate the shit out of Sheamus. By now, most have cottoned on to him not being successful as a main event guy and getting shot after shot after shot. Well, it's perceived that way anyway. Cesaro missing out would piss off the most vocal sort of wrestling fan, working them into a "Push Cesaro" frenzy, whereas Owens vs. Cesaro would just be...there.
Owens vs. Sheamus would be a good match, and it gives Owens a chance to test out his legs as a babyface. There's no way that Owens is going to get genuine heat in Toronto anyway. It's also been one year since Sheamus cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot, so it's got that sort of story attached to it too.

Agree, didnt watch alot of them in NXT but it doesn't matter one bit to me what they did in NXT. Same with Balor, I seen more with him in NXT than AA but still think him being the first Universal Champion was idiotic. They are rookies more so than guys like Styles who had a rookie angle with Jericho. Just hate it when they hotshot these NXT talents into title pictures.

Also agree, Universal title isn't really anything special with the way it's been booked to start and Sheamus or Cesaro would be good challengers. Kind of hoping Rusev/Reigns continues as they just ended it abruptly with no explanation other than Reigns going for the Universal title that Rusev also had a shot at and gave up.

It seems like HHH/Rollins is bound to be headlining a PPV before long, which means the Universal Title will be the second most important match on the card.
I don't know how I feel about that, I feel like the title should always be the last match on the card except in extreme circumstances (see: Taker/HBK WM26) but I've gotten so used to WWE pushing blood feuds ahead of it so I guess it just doesn't matter.

I think he will. They're going to put the focus on him and Rollins and Owens and the title will be second. Just the way they've done things for years. No reason to think they're going to magically change given the players involved.
Hope I'm wrong.
