View Full Version : If you had to start a promotion with one person from each brand/promotion, who would they be?

I thought this might be a fun little game. You've been tasked by someone -- Vince McMahon, an eccentric billionaire, God, etc. -- to select a core team for a new promotion that will be opening up. They've made it possible for you pluck anyone you want from each major wrestling promotion's roster, but only one person.

You can select people based on whatever criteria you want -- wrestling skill, promo ability, charisma, drawing ability, future gains, etc. You can go as deep as you want, I guess. Eventually the talent won't be recognizable anymore, but feel free to pluck from Lucha Underground, CMLL, AAA, New Japan, etc. RAW, SmackDown and NXT are all counted as separate rosters, so you can select three individuals from under that umbrella, but you can't have, say, John Cena AND Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura AND Samoa Joe or Sasha Banks AND Bayley. You can also sign as many free agents as you want. So feel free to bring in Joey Styles as an announcer, but you will have to include Jim Ross in your magic drafting due to his relationship with New Japan.

I figured this might be a fun discussion for people to talk about who they would base a company around, and it'll be interesting to see if any trends pop-up, and whether it is established talent or fresh talent, or a combo, that is selected.

Cena, Rollins, and Joe. For a free agent Kurt Angle. TNA would be Cody Rhodes.

Oh and Ryback as another free agent obviously.

I'm actually finding RAW and TNA as much toughest to choose from. I'm between Brock Lesnar and Big E from RAW. As much as Brock seems like the no-brainer, I'm not sure if you can really count on him to retain his mystique as a full-time guy in those crucial early days. I'd probably almost definitely try and get Kurt Angle, so my "wrestling machine" is right there. Big E probably gets the nod from RAW then.

TNA is tough, because one one hand I think Bobby Lashley has got something that hasn't been tapped into, but then you've also got these guys that have really started to shine, like EC3 and Drew Galloway. I can't look past Jeff Hardy as someone to get eyeballs on the product though. Plus, once you get Jeff Hardy, you eventually get Matt. I'd probably take Jeff from TNA and then Jay Briscoe from ROH. Those two would compliment each other in crazy ways, and hopefully set the foundations for an eventual Hardys vs. Briscoes feud.

SmackDown is John Cena, NXT is Nakamura and New Japan is Okada. I'm thinking about taking Jeff Cobb from Lucha Underground, but there's a part of me that can't look past Pentagon, Jr. He'd be something different too.

Raw: Kevin Owens
SmackDown: John Cena
NXT: Shinsuke Nakamura
TNA: Ethan Carter III
ROH: Jay Lethal
NJPW: Kazuchika Okada
Lucha Underground: King Cuerno
AAA: Johnny Mundo

I wanted badly to take AJ Styles for the SmackDown rep but Cena has been great these last few years and, more importantly, would get more eyes on the product immediately and would add to the "oh shit" value.

Speaking of oh shit value, CM Punk would be my top free agent choice - or if UFC counted as a "draftable" company despite not being wrestling.

Since you'd have to poach him off Dana, I think he's got to count as your one "wrestler" from UFC. You can't really draft anybody from UFC though, so no Connor McGregor.

I'd love to have AJ as well, but I agree with your assessment of Cena. I think him just being so intertwined with the WWE would make it a landmark move.

HABM would be the main guy easily

You know what? Fuck it. Cena's career is winding down. I'd take Johnny Curtis and build by own Cena for the future.

Fandango is a wonderful pick. The Stone Cold missed opportunity.
