QUESTION - Would there be a benefit in resurrecting "1997 Kane" for Jacob's final year?

I'm not sure when Jacob's final year in the WWE will be, but I was thinking that the WWE should make him go back to being the 1997 version of Kane during his last year. After a lengthy absence, Jacob's returns as 1997 Kane and beats the living monkey piss out of everyone, Brock Lesnar/Goldberg style.

Kane goes undefeated for an entire year, and maybe even wins the Royal Rumble. Kane then jobs at Mania to 'whoever' (Brock? Reigns?) in his final match.

This achieves 3 things:

1) Gives the WWE another interesting character
2) Gives Glenn Jacobs the respect that he deserves after being the consummate 'team guy' all these years.
3) Allows the guy who finally goes over Kane to add a big notch to his belt.

Obviously, given Jacob's age, working a full-time schedule likely isn't in the cards, and so have Kane squash wrestlers every couple of weeks in quick short matches. Give him a longer match every once in awhile.

You can do that. Give him a title run. Or just not do it and bring Bautista back for the same effect.

I'm for it.

I'm not sure if Batista would be willing to commit for that length of time. On top of that, I think Batista coming in and doing that (after spending the better part of 6 years away from the WWE) would make the rest of the roster look weak.

Kane on the other hand would be able to get away with it, because his character has always been enigmatic. That's the beauty of Kane's character/gimmick. The guy can be a complete upper-card jobber for years on end, and regain his entire credibility back by a simple character tweak/push.

None of that makes sense.

Are there people wanting Kane to come back in any form?? Seriously? He's an after, after after thought to me.

Why does he wear fake hair on his mask?

No. WWE is already doing something similar with Braun and Nia so it would seem really redundant to have another monster heel squash everyone on a brand. Also Smackdown is light on star power which might end up doing more harm than good for the brand.

Wouldn't have a problem with the WWE giving him a special match at Mania for his retirement and as a gift for his lengthy career with the company.

I only want this if they literally pretend he is from 1997

Like he has somehow been flung into the future from the past and is confused and angered by his surroundings

I thought that's what they had in mind when he was World Champion in 2010.

Yeah, he's had his "Thank you for the service" run in 2010, not that "thank you for the service" runs are good for business anyway. He's now lasted another six years. Team Hell No gave us a few laughs, and he probably imparted some knowledge onto the Shield guys, but when he was squashed at WrestleMania XXX, I thought that would be it. Going out on his back. He then dominated the 2015 Royal Rumble with Big Show and he's still around.

Kane appealed to me against all odds. In many ways, he's what I would dislike about professional wrestling. Glen Jacobs has made it all work as well as he can. There may be a very limited of great matches to his name, and almost none where he is actually the winner, but he's been consistently above the "unwatchable" line for over 20 years now. I don't buy him in any sort of main event role at this point in time though. If TNA folds, maybe bring in Abyss for one PPV match and a Chokeslam onto the thumbtacks (you know Abyss has always wanted it) and then maybe only use Kane for house shows in order to try and drum up interest in them.

1997 Kane for video games and house shows? Sure, I can get behind that. Not on TV though. It's too "retro" to have any sort of weight in a contemporary sense, and people are too smart to believe that Kane got a sudden boost in power. It'd just look like the rest of the roster is shit.

Oh damn, what if Bray Wyatt opened a time portal and brought 1997 Kane into the future to unleash him upon his enemies

Also could have all sorts of time travel shenanigans going on......

Last time I was interested in Kane was the Inferno Match he had with Bray. I thought he would go back to being a monster for Wyatt but instead they went with the Corporate Kane thing out of no where.

They could do an Old School SmackDown and have Kane revert to, well I guess it'd have to be 1999 Kane, for the night and then inexplicably not change back.
