View Full Version : Is the WWE Universe Dead?

As seen on Monday's RAW from Los Angeles, the announcers referred to the crowd as "fans" instead of the WWE Universe when Rusev kicked United States Champion Roman Reigns over the ringside barrier. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, this was an intentional change.
Good if true, it's the dumbest shit.
Still funny that the Raw championship was named after it though.

It's the WWE Universe,,, that's the best name for it,,, calling us fans is very disrespectful,,,, why not call us supporters?

The constant branding of everything is a bit annoying and honestly off-putting. Some of the language the WWE forbids or enforces is just alienating and...robotic.
"They're not belts."
Yes they are.
"It's not wrestling."
Yes it is.
"We're sports entertainment."
Debatable.
"We make movies."
Yes, but have you made a good one?
"Triple H is historically one of the most significant wrestlers of the Attitude era."
No he isn't.
"They're Superstars."
They're wrestlers.
"They're Divas."
They're wrestlers.
"Don't say backbreaker."
Okay, this is just getting ridiculous.

I'm surprised they didn't try to re-brand tag teams with buzzwords at some point. "Slamese Twins" or something.

I'm not going to touch the Heinz Ketchup Openweight Championship. Apparently if you're told it's the biggest prize a guy can win, you just have to accept it, because it really doesn't matter, right? That's why Olympic gold got changed to blue that year.
It's also hard to come up with names when you have six World Championships in your company.

I can only assume the "WWE Universe" was attacked and stabbed to death following a traffic incident.

Ironically this division is plagued by 50/50 booking.

Now in stores, it's WWE Clue:
"It was a redneck after a traffic incident!"
"No, it was a reprobate outside a restaurant!"
"Whoa, guys! It was Rikishi with a car...for The Rock."
"...Man, this game sucks."

Apparently this is a response to RAW's all-time record low ratings, much like the draft was a response to the fledgling SmackDown ratings. "Making the show good" was suggested by a writer who was forcibly defenestrated, but he managed to come up with some zany character concepts for Lucha Underground on his way down.
Get ready, 100,000 people -- Larry the Lizard is coming to a television near somewhere you know in New York soon.

The worst part about the WWE Universe branding, is that after all these years, not a single heel has run down the audience with astronomy themed insults.
Like
"No wonder you're called the WWE Universe. Some of you losers are so fat, you've got your own moon!"
How is that not a thing?
I can only assume the "WWE Universe" was attacked and stabbed to death following a traffic incident.
well, the WWE universe shouldn't be living in a trailer park.

I wonder how many of them think that the WWE invented the word "Universe?"
Mr. Nerfect
10-06-2016, 03:31 PM
And now how many children are now named "Universe" as a result? Maybe the person who stabbed Jamie Noble in the traffic incident was actually a child born in 2008, infuriated to discover that he shared a name with "Miss Universe" and didn't want to be named after no woman.

Not to you, man. Sorry. I'm going to start responding to unwitty snark in kind. Please don't take it personally, because I don't really know you, but I think it's what it deserves.
You poo-poo head.
