I can definitely see some sort of angle going down at No Mercy that leads to two WWE Title matches to keep people hooked. AJ Styles pins Dean Ambrose and then Cena challenges him one-on-one or something.

Eh, probably not. Given the rest of the card, Bray/Orton seems like the next biggest match they have, but I can see them giving it to the Intercontinental Title and Dolph's farewell. I'd mark out for Heath Slater headlining a PPV though. If Becky is wrestling, they could cut in front of RAW and have the women main event a SmackDown PPV first.

Glad to see they didn't pull a 2007 No Mercy with the title...that night, in the 2nd match, HHH beat Orton for it. HHH then successfully defended it vs. Umaga in the middle of the show, but then Orton vs. HHH II that night happened in Last Man Standing which Orton won back the title.

I would say that a lot of the other post-split PPVs have been pretty good. I think the post-draft SD one dragged a bit, but they were still setting the stage for the brand at that point.

They just hit the "Oh shit, presidential debate!" panic button on this one and fucked themselves up, just like they did on Raw a couple of weeks ago. In isolation, most of the matches were solid to good, barring the Bliss/Naomi booking-abortion; it's just that in succession over three hours, it became very bland and tedious.

That's on the organization and layout of the show more than the booking and in-ring product, here. You open up with the tag match, cut out Bliss/Naomi match, build to Ziggler/Miz part of the way through the show, and finish with the Triple Threat, I think we have a much better feeling show.

The opening main event (lol?) was pretty good.

Miz/Ziggler was great. I wasn't a fan of the Spirit Squad coming down, but the rest of the match more than made up for it.

Crowd was pretty hot for the show.

But seriously, why the fuck is Alexa Bliss, the #1 contender, losing a match that one of the kickoff panelists literally called a "throwaway match"?

I didn't really feel invested in the non-main-event closing match. Wyatt always loses, so I have trouble caring about him. I don't really like face Orton (except for goofy face Orton - goofy face Orton is best Orton). Luke Harper returning to break Wyatt's losing streak is interesting, at least.

They probably should consider making Smackdown ppvs just 2 hours till the brand's star power improves and/or roster gets bigger. Right now they are stretching themselves thin just to fill out a 3 hour ppv especially with pre-show matches. Gets worse if a match has to be dropped since they don't have the star power in reserves to replace it without it coming off as useless filler.

Naomi is better in the ring than Bliss, barely, but has far less natural charisma. The better decision would have been to put Bliss over and build her as a challenger for Becky, and I'm saying that as someone who thinks that Bliss is nowhere near ready for a main roster spot.

Just watched the show, and I agree with Dark One's sentiments..... feel like if the layout of the show was better, it would have left me feeling better.

As it was, as soon as Miz/Dolph was done, I really didn't care about the rest. Doesn't really make sense to me to not have at least one of your two title matches close the show. Especially since they were the good matches on the show.

Good to see Luke Harper back. One more guy for Randy Orton to RKO and bury before he gets his win back over Bray.

My thoughts exactly Lockjaw with regards to Luke Harper. After the initial excitement of seeing him, I immediately thought right that's a few RKO's for him until Orton beats Bray and moves onto Styles.

• At first, I was unhappy that Curt Hawkins was appearing on the Pre-Show as it made no sense to build up his debut for weeks, only to have him debut in front of around 500 people.

But I actually enjoyed the debut. Even though I loved his old theme, his new one is actually not that bad and with his voice talking over it, it just adds to his character. I loved the intro of "Hold on to your seat, but you'll only be needing the edge because Curt Hawkins is here! Yes! That Curt Hawkins." and the line "He's here and he's near the ring, so I'll stop talking."

I was surprised that he got some pyro too.

I find it quite amusing that he just freezes and stares at the camera in a pose after he makes an announcement and like his voice over his theme, I feel that it adds so much to his character.

I can imagine him backstage being interviewed and when he finishes talking or making an announcement, he just strikes a pose and stares straight into the camera and freezes, but then Charly Caruso or whoever is interviewing him looks at him for a few seconds, becomes uncomfortable and walks away, leaving Hawkins still in his pose staring into the camera.

Overall, I really think Curt Hawkins is going to be a genuinely entertaining character to watch both in and out of the ring and even though he debuted on a Pre-Show, I have a really positive feeling about Hawkins and I really don't think he'll be pulling a Jinder Mahal and will just be jobbing.

Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought of Scott Steiner when the siren sounded, right?

• After that, we found out that the Women's Championship Match will now be moved to when SmackDown is in Glasgow, which really really annoyed me. For years and years I've wished for Raw & SmackDown to come to Scotland and when it finally does, I miss the ticket sales because my focus was elsewhere and now I know I'll be missing a possible Alexa Bliss title win and Curt Hawkins.

• The WWE Championship match was strange but it makes sense because of the debate. It was good as I expected it to be and AJ winning was the right choice in my opinion. I'm just curious who'll be the next number one contender as I've read that Cena and Ambrose will be gone for a while due to other commitments and now Orton has to deal with a returning Luke Harper.

I really can't think of anyone right now, so SmackDown will be interesting.

• Nikki/Carmella was what it was really. Along with Carmella being genuinely shit, I now have another reason to not like her that comes in the form of her not shutting the fuck up during matches. Her voice is painful to listen too and it just takes me back to the days when Melina would scream during her matches, which I also couldn't stand.

Also, I was surprised when Mauro Ranallo mentioned that Carmella's dad was a wrestler and had been in the WWE in the 90's, as I didn't know that. I thought he would have been someone noteworthy but it turns out he was just some random jobber.

• I really thought Slater & Rhyno would lose as The Usos have been on fire recently but I was wrong. Still, I feel a title win for The Uso's is very near. If Slater & Rhyno are now a legit team and are going to remain a team for a while, they really need a new theme because right now, two men coming out to a song which is about a three man team that belongs to a single man makes no sense.

• Hats off to Baron Corbin as he managed to make me find his match with Jack Swagger to be boring. Seriously. I like Swagger and I've never felt bored watching his matches but watching his match with Corbin just made me feel so bored.

He's so boring and so bland that it's not even funny but yet, here he is being portrayed as a legitimate threat and JBL talks him up as a future WWE Champion, but when he's in the ring or on the mic, I'm just so bored that I'm close to tears.

• Once again, Miz/Ziggler steals the show and have the match of the night. I really don't know why this wasn't the main event considering their previous matches and that the WWE Championship match was on first to avoid the debate.

• Another strange (some call it stupid) decision was Alexa Bliss losing to Naomi via a roll-up. How can Alexa be seen as a legitimate threat to Becky Lynch's title is she loose to a substitute via a roll-up?

• I found Orton/Wyatt to be somewhat boring but a returning Luke Harper was a surprise and a good one. I didn't realise until then how much I had missed Harper. I've always thought he was the best of the Wyatt Family members but it just sucks that his return happens around the same time of Rowan's injury as we are robbed of a family reunion.

• Overall, No Mercy was good, but not as good as Backlash or what I expect from the SmackDown brand, but maybe the debate had a role to play in it all, I dunno.

Personally I wouldn't go to two hours because it makes SD seem like the lesser of the two shows.

But I do agree they are thin in terms of roster size. I was glad to see Harper go to the blue side because I think he will be used more effectively.

With the cruisers on RAW, you have a bunch of guys in RAW that don't really get used. On SD they would at least get a regular spot.

They have time now though. Next SD exclusive PPV isn't till December, although I think Cena is missing that show. So that could be a thin lineup.

I thought the Naomi beating Bliss booking made sense. When you have a small number of people in a division you can't have any of them lose all the time. Naomi is in the unfortunate spot of being the babyface jobber. This win gives her credibility and gives Bliss something to do while they wait for the match with Becky in Scotland.

If Bliss were to beat her, what does she do on tv for the next four weeks? Nikki and Carm are wrapped up in a feud and likely the winner becomes the next challenger for Lynch or Bliss. So that leaves Natty (heel) and Naomi. I guess Bliss could just beat Naomi a couple times, but I think this does more good.
