Good run, Trish. You'll live on in my memories. And partially dried up in some of my socks.

Trish. Steamboat never played heel.
Initially I almost voted the same way, but I think his accomplishments as a baby outweight hers. An entire generation had their style of in ring product shaped off of how he worked. his influence is just greater than hers.

Not arguing anything here, but has it ever been made clear why Steamboat was never a heel? Was that his choice?

Yes

"I never had a match where I worked as a heel. When I started in 1974, I was always a face, and the reason for that was that the heel would always lead the match. Now for me to graduate to be a heel, most times you started out as a face, and then when you got good, you would transfer over to a heel and you were the guy in charge. So I never had an opportunity to work as a heel, although in and around 1991, I expressed my desire to work as a heel and the response that I got back was it would never work. Pat Patterson said that I was the consummate babyface and it would probably hurt my career. I tried to push it to them hard and said, “Let me go under a mask and let me go under a full suit and cover up my body. I won’t throw any chops and I’ll just kick and punch and I’ll be a heel. Then the big surprise, if we can carry this thing through, after about a year or so, have somebody finally takes the mask off, hopefully the response we get from the fans will be ‘Oh my God, all this time it’s been Ricky Steamboat,'” but they wouldn’t buy it."

That doesn't sound like his choice. It sounds like he WANTED to.

91 was very late in career, but Pat was right. It would have never worked. We'd be talking about his awful heel run.

Speculation
It's true, that is speculative. I firmly stand by it however. Some people should never work heel, others should never work face. *shrug*

Would you say that The Miz is the antithesis of Ricky Steamboat in that aspect?

Okay, I can buy Trish beating out everyone else, but against Steamboat? Come the fuck on, people! Anyone who votes for Trish here is a stupid idiot!

Seriously though, I didn't even grow up watching Steamboat. Everything I know about him comes from watching old footage years after the fact and I still find him to be one of the best I've ever seen. And that's saying something because I honestly can't understand why many so-called "legends" are so revered when I go back and watch their stuff, but with Steamboat I definitely get it. I'm literally perplexed as to how anyone could possibly say Trish was the better wrestler here.

Would you say that The Miz is the antithesis of Ricky Steamboat in that aspect?

In truth Miz should work extremely well as a face. The dude has the sympathetic backstory, the love of the business, etc. It's so weird that it just doesn't work for him for some reason. Maybe it's his face... He does have this sort of douche-y quality to him that makes you just want to punch him. Anyway, I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I'd definitely say Miz is the antithesis to Steamboat in that regard. The dude just doesn't work as a face for some odd reason.

Would you say that The Miz is the antithesis of Ricky Steamboat in that aspect?
Yes, 100%
In truth Miz should work extremely well as a face. The dude has the sympathetic backstory, the love of the business, etc. It's so weird that it just doesn't work for him for some reason. Maybe it's his face... He does have this sort of douche-y quality to him that makes you just want to punch him. Anyway, I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I'd definitely say Miz is the antithesis to Steamboat in that regard. The dude just doesn't work as a face for some odd reason.
It's def his face.

Steamboat could only draw as well as who he was working, true. But I think we're comparing Steamboat to the Flairs of the world and not Trish. Which is unfair in this competition.

Trish vs. Ric Flair would've been lame. Steamboat vs. Ric Flair was classic. I'm gonna vote for Tugboat here

One of the all-time greats in WWE history and had one of the best matches ever in Mania history against Macho Man.

No doubt....Rick Steamboat.....him Vs. Savage is one of the best matches ever, and considering people are still talking about it 30 years later says something.

I hear about that match all the time, but I think the only time I've ever watched it was when I rented Wrestlemania 3 from Blockbuster Video when I was like 9 years old, and I haven't watched it back since. It just seem like one of those matches that we're all just made to believe is one of the greatest matches ever for...I dunno, whatever reason. Does it age well?

Hello Brunette Trish......

But apologies, because I have to vote for Ricky Steamboat.

I have definitely seen a lot more of Trish than I have Steamboat, but you know..... given the choice to watch any Trish match and any Steamboat match, I would probably pick Steamboat.......... unless, of course, the Trish match was a mixed tag team match alongside Christian!

Went with Trish. Didn't see much of Ricky honestly and I don't care too. And Trish is a legend. I don't believe Ricky is legend status but I could be wrong. More like super HoFer.

Steamboat in this one. One of the more legendary babyface workers of all-time. It is fair to criticize his ability to draw and whether he worked heel when talking about his place on the all-time list, but his significance to the business, artistically, trumps the brief candle in the night that Trish was. She had a great and deserved run.

Also, I'd like to say that I think Savage vs. Steamboat is one of the more fun "old" matches I've watched. I also have to watch Steamboat retrospectively, and often the lack of the emotion of the time has an effect on how you view back these matches. Savage vs. Steamboat is a timeless classic for me.

I actually find it harder to get into the lauded Flair/Steamboat series.

Trish's best match was probably her Wrestlemania match with Mickie James. How does that stack up against Steamboat/Savage?

Her best stuff was definitely her feuds with Lita. The Mickie/Trish "stalker" angle just felt like the old DDP/'Taker storyline except Trish knew who her stalker was all along and there was no third party involved.

Pretty well. I don't recall either Savage or Steamboat simulating tasting each others genitals. Although I didn't see that WM live, so they could have edited it out.

It absolutely was, except for those two very minor differences. Nonetheless, my point that any Trish/Lita match you could mention was better by a mile than Trish/Mickie at WM 22.

The match or the storyline? The Mickie/Trish storyline was by far the best story in all women's wrestling. It would probably be top 10 overall if you include the men.

This is a very inaccurate assessment. Those two things were absolutely nothing alike. Not even close. Don't argue this. Just know that you are not right.

It really bothers me that they edited out that part from Trish and Mickie. It kind of made that match iconic. If they edited the same out of Steamboat/Savage, bless them.

That match just made it all that much sadder that he retired so young. Steamboat vs HBK is probably my all-time dream match and after watching him against Jericho it just showed how possible it would have been during that time he was out of the ring for him and HBK to still put on a 5 star match.
