Chris Jericho.

AJ Style has potential but Jericho is a legend who has done everything in his career.

Jericho is the total package, heel, face and in between, genius in ring and on microphone.

AJ Style is a good wrestler with a good character but hasnt shown a tenth of what weve seen from Chris Jericho during his long career.

Y2J but it is unfair because I don't watch anything that is not WWE. I watched a little bit of TNA but AJ was still developing during that time.

Y2j all the way

The answer should be A.J. Styles, but having just made it to WWE this year the answer is very simple. Jericho.

Chris Jericho all the way.

AJ has fucking owned it since debuting in the WWE though, I'm amazed how over he's consistently been.

Pretty easy choice.

Jericho, but AJ will likely reach that level before his career is over. I'd say in terms of potential they're pretty much identical. This one just comes down to Jericho having more accomplishments and big moments under his belt for me.

With the way he's worked and the huge bumps he's taken I woldnt be surprised to Jericho to out last him.

Even if his career only lasts another 5 years he could easily have enough big moments and whatnot in today's WWE (where things move extremely fast and world titles are handed out like candy) to end up just as "legendary" as Y2J, at least from a kayfabe standpoint. Of course you're totally correct that he might not last that long so only time will tell.

Just for reference CM Punk and Daniel Bryan both managed in a span of like 2-3 years to go from midcard afterthoughts to two of the most iconic and memorable wrestlers of the decade.

Not really looking at it from a kayfabe standpoint though. If I were I'd agree with you.

Fair enough. Personally I think you gotta factor in kayfabe as that's a huge part of wrestling as a whole, but I can see why some wouldn't agree with that statement. IMO not factoring it in is like trying to decide who's a better actor without factoring in the parts they've been allowed to play.

I would say it's like asking who is the better actor and then factoring in the morality of the characters they played

Close call, but Jericho wins for me. More entertaining on the mic on top.

Jericho.

Both are great wrestlers overall but gave the nod to Jericho because of his really great promo skills and having a lot more memorable moments.

Styles has been really impressive with how much he's improved promo-wise since his WWE debut but also has the misfortune of being someone who should have been a way bigger star had TNA not kept finding ways to mishandle his career there. Wasn't till he left the company that his real value as a potential mega-star started to show.

I would say it's like asking who is the better actor and then factoring in the morality of the characters they played

Wouldn't that be more like judging a wrestler based on whether they were face or heel?

With it being the 22nd day of Nashvember I'm pretty sure the only correct answer is Kevin Nash

This one was hard but Jericho based on the fact that he has been good on a much bigger stage longer than AJ (which does not take away from how amazing Styles is)

Chris Jericho, and I'm struggling to think of anybody I'd vote over him.

Poor metophor. Maybe "basing an arctors achievments over their characters achievements" will have more effectively illustrated my point,

I need some time to think about this. My gut actually told me AJ Styles. I personally think the guy is absolutely brilliant. If there were Monday Night Wars going on and there was a legitimate #2, AJ Styles would have been signed by the WWE years ago and turned into a big deal, ala Jericho.

In the ring, I'd actually say that I've enjoyed AJ Styles' work on a higher level. Jericho is probably the more entertaining personality, moment-wise, but AJ Styles has charisma. Styles was getting a nudge from me because I think he's the best overall performer in the WWE right now (Jericho is a close #2) but Jericho was the best in 2008 and has been up there many other years.

I guess I've got to go Jericho, but I do think this could change. As in within the span of a year or two.

Comparing Jerichos WCW/WWE/even ECW/SMW/Japan/Mexico moments to AJ Styles moments in TNA/ROH/NJPW and Jericho wins by a mile, AJ's a great wrestler, but he hasn't left us with many memorable moments yet, just a few classic matches.

Jericho hands down. They're close in-ring wise but Jericho blows Styles away in every other category.

Styles doesn't have a tenth of Jericho's personality and has also took a very long time to find a "look" that worked for him. While Jericho has had like ten of them in the same timespan.

As a "wrassler", it is tight, but as a sports entertainer, or, the whole package, Jericho is light years ahead.

Can't understand the people saying AJ doesn't have personality. The dude is literally oozing with charisma. What the hell are you guys watching?

I will say that the look thing is a better point, though I'd argue that most of Jericho's looks have been pretty bad. Jericho just made them work because he's Chris fucking Jericho. But honestly he's looked like a goober many a time, and if you argue otherwise you've got really odd aesthetic preferences.

I didn't say AJ doesn't have personality, I said he doesn't have a tenth of Jericho's

What has Jericho not done? He can do comedy, serious runs, he can rile up a crowd or get them on his side in an instant.

AJ is charismatic but he doesn't have the range of personality or the varied body of work and characters that Jericho does.

I don't think he ha's ever had the company on his shoulders for any true length of time. There was always somebody better.

AJ had been the man. Not just the title holder.

I think AJ had pretty damn good range during his TNA stuff given the stuff he was involved in. I haven't seen much of his work outside of there or WWE though so I can't speak for all of it. What's more you act like Jericho was always creating these amazingly varied characters, but as I recall he was pretty similar as a face and heel for much of his earlier work. It wasn't until his last few stints with the company that I remember him changing himself up so drastically. Anyway I think it's just unfair to say he can't do it this early into his WWE run.

He doesn't, but he is by far and away the best thing in the company.

From an in-ring standpoint, I guess. If he left the company tomorrow they wouldn't exactly suffer too much though.

No, you're right. But I don't think they'd suffer too much if Chris Jericho left either.

No. That was just a comment on STD's "carrying the company on his shoulders" comment.

I don't think Styles is the overall best on the roster either though. If you ignore years of awful booking and switch his position with, say, Dolph Ziggler, I think people would think that Ziggler is "the man".

Also, Johnny Curtis.

Mr. Nerfect
11-26-2016, 10:39 PM
It's a real shame what's happened with Dolph. Styles has something though. There's an intangible quality that hasn't been there with a guy in some time. Maybe that's just my subjective interpretation though. I honestly haven't watched him since he won the title at Backlash.

AJ Styles was always a highlight of TNA, but I remember the general feeling being that he was never given enough responsibility in TNA. Ultimately how they were were used chased off AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels and many other "identity players" in TNA. Scrap that -- all of them.

Edge was one of the guys that popped to mind for me, but he places third on my list of preferred Canadian match-ups for Jericho.
