Right now on first glance/thought my answer would be Kurt Angle. But I'm gonna have to think about it for a while

Both amazing but Angle was a better all-rounder, IMO.

Shawn Michaels, it should be noted, was the winner of the previous Best Wrestler.

Jesus fucking Christ...okay we're doing this.

Kurt Angle the simple fact is he IS a better wrestler.

Shawn I do feel even if you take out his back injury had time on his side. My argument is pretty much the same one as Mr. perfect if we took angle and started him at the same time as HBK I still think Kurt would have outclassed him as a wrestler (certainly as a talker) and as athlete you can debate If HBK had a better look to him. Angle like HBK wrestled a certain style but Kurt easily changes up whereas I don't think Shawn could ever get his brawling or his submission game to the level oh his high-flying.

Kurt Angle isn't even in my fave five but goddamn it he is the man.

This is nuts Kurt is overqualified

He's like if Superman had no weaknesses......or Thor

I guess one very minor gripe I have with Shawn Michaels was that towards the end of his run his "wounded dog" act got very old. I'm not sure I felt that way about Kurt in anything he did. It's very minor, but might be enough since they're two of my favorites.

It's very tough to say how Kurt would do in any other era because learning in those eras was so different, as was the talent you learned from.

I'm going with HBK. Even just his normal body of work, he made HIAC work with his work in that, made ladder matches a popular thing and probably had the best singles one ever with Jericho. Hell, he probably had the best no-DQ match ever with HHH and that was after not wrestling for how many years? Then add in his Undertaker WM matches and the one against Ric Flair and he is just better. And that's not taking away from Kurt.

Angle v Michaels >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> HBM v Jericho

Yeah, I was talking about singles ladder matches though, although I worded it like shit. HBK V Kurt is probably Kurts best match too, but HBK's against Undertaker and Flair were better than that.

HBK gets the nod from me. While Kurt is an all time great HBK is just that much better in my opinion. While Angle would probably make it into my list of the top 10 best of all time I'd still have to think about it a bit. HBK automatically gets into that list without a second thought.

Tough choice but went with HBK.

Gave the nod to Angle being better with in-ring skills and HBK the nod for being the better entertainer overall.

Also feel HBK is one of the few that you could make a legit argument for being on the Mt Rushmore of Wrestling while Angle would be below that in the next tier of mega greatness.

Oh wait. He edited KIRA's post to say "music" instead of "repertoire". So he's saying his MUSIC, not his repertoire hasn't changed since 1991 except in 1993 when Sherri wasn't singing in it and when he was using the DX theme. Though I'm not sure why he felt the need to make that point as a rebuttal to KIRA's post.

Really difficult choice. I'll think on it somemore...

Ring work is a wash
Mic work is a wash
HBM in 9y almost tanked the company as a top guy so his post 02 stuff at the gate i think is a wash

I think it comes down to legacy. Im not sure which will have the biggest impact. 10 years post retirements whos work will still be shaping the business...i dunno.

Honestly they'll both be shaping the business that far down the line in my opinion. At least when it comes to influencing new wrestlers. Think about how many guys those two have inspired already. Their styles have both become general archetypes in the industry.

Now in terms of who the fans will remember, well, that one is a bit more one sided. Honestly I think 10 years from now Kurt will be forgotten by most of the fanbase barring some miraculous return to the WWE before he packs it up. HBK is cemented by WWE as one of the most legendary guys in professional wrestling. He's mentioned all the time, and unless he pulls a Hogan or Benoit I don't see that changing. Meanwhile the most we've seen of Kurt from WWE in recent years is his involvement in John Cena's premier. I'd argue that most kids watching today wouldn't know who Kurt is, but almost all of them would know of HBK. It's not really fair, but that's how it goes.

SlickyTrickyDamon
12-18-2016, 01:27 AM
It wasn't HBK that tanked the company. It was Vince trying to lower the WWF to a G level mirroring Disney.

If anything HBK and his attitude is what saved the company. He just didn't get to enjoy any of it because he literally broke his FREAKING back for the WWF.

I think HBK is definitely more iconic. Angle was only in WWE for 6 years. HBK's SECOND career post-back injury during that same time (which is widely considered his best years) lasted a couple years longer than Angle's entire WWE run. If that was all they had to offer, HBK left a bigger mark with his WrestleMania main events, his Jericho feud, etc.

Add to that him being a part of the beginning of the attitude era with DX and being considered the best wrestler in the world in the years before that and it all puts him far ahead of Angle in the legacy department. The best Angle could do to try to catch up is his Samoa Joe feud in TNA which was great... but TNA can only add so much to someone's legacy.

Forgot to vote last round, so I should probably vote this round.

Two of the very best here. These two are very equal in a lot of ways.

I think the difference for me is that at no point in time did I hate Kurt Angle. Whereas before his back injury I kind of hated Shawn Michaels because he seemed like such a genuine "douchebag"........ Realized he was talented, but at the same time he just rubbed me the wrong way a lot of the time......

So for that reason, I am giving Kurt Angle the slight nod over him.

If the two ever had another match, I would have wanted it to be booked this way. Neck and neck, angles athleticism edging him in front late, late on, only for HBK to come back with a last ditch super kick, falling on a prone Kurt.

The two best of all time imo, but def feels right HBK winning. He has two truly legendary runs, a more varied and storied career and I always felt there was more emotion in his matches, particularly in his second run.
