Seems about right. Hadn't done anything since moving to SD. I don't think Impact Wrestling has the money to do a "What is( superstars non copyright name) doing in the Impact Zone" joke.

he'll make some cash on the Indy's. It'll do him good. Maybe a run in Japan? He's a good worker, just got fucked over by the machine.

Not surprised considering the WWE simply refused to use him on Smackdown even though that brand could use more wrestlers for depth reasons. Even worse when they didn't even bother to consider him as battle royale material.

I feel like he has wasted so much time there, so many years.
Could have done what Cody is doing now much earlier and got himself out of the rut he was in.
I actually really like "we the people" Swagger and his run. The only person he can blame is himself as to why that didn't work out.

Damn, it sucks to see him go but at the same time, I'm glad he's left. He so much better than what the WWE thought he was worth.
To be honest, I completely forgot that he was on the SmackDown roster until just now.
I see him doing well overseas, especially in the UK.
I wish him well.

He was fucked the moment Cesaro split from the Real Americans, though.

To be fair, quite a few people were over when going after Rusev. Could just be that Rusev is awesome.
WHY WOULD THEY LET JACK SWAGGER leave OMG WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS COMPANY!
Lock Jaw

Think Swagger could have been "made a star" if he went over Rusev in that feud.
But then a few months later he would have been floundering, and Rusev would have also got to floundering a lot sooner than he did.

To me, that was mostly WWE covering their asses by removing the racist overtones of "We The People." Playing off that wrestling fans were racist assholes wasn't doing WWE any favors. Nothing really about Swagger at all just trying to remove something the media could mock.
The entrance music was fucking awesome (especially live).

I've always been a "mark" for Swagger. And while he didn't have the smoothest of runs, he'll end his WWE career as a former United States, ECW, and World Heavyweight Champion. That's one helluva resume.
And this actually happened

As much as I liked him, it was almost a hindrance putting Swagger on television because the announcers would invariably bring up that he was a former World champion. Rather than that statement making Swagger look good, it actually just made the belt look bad because Swagger has been doing pretty much nothing for years.

yes. WWE has dumped alot of the hold "Pay per dates" or "X amount of guaranteed dates" back when WCW crushed contracts.
These guys Get X Salary plus merch. If injured they get a downside guarantee. but hes still been travelling and appearing on how shows and such. If they dont use him on TV he gets paid the same
If you are on the road you get paid. If you are at home for injury or just working out at the performance studio or whatever you get your downside.
This is why guys getting shit treatment will stick around. They are getting paid good money depending on when they negotiated their contract to do nothing.
The only reason to leave, is to be happy and try to save some level of popularity for a shift to indies. At some point every superstar is going to get let go, and Swagger probably wants to capitalize off his name the best he can. If he jobs out another 2 years and gets released his value will be shit.

I feel like he will always be around because WWE uses him to train part-timers and returnees. He may not be on TV but they are probably paying him a little more since he's the guy to get people back in ring shape.

With Swagger's departure, there are only two "WWECW Originals" left who made their main roster debut with the ECW brand and have been with the company ever since: Sheamus and Zack Ryder.
If you include people who left the company and came back you also have Curt Hawkins and Tye Dillinger. Pretty sure the Major Brothers and Gavin Spears are canon.
Loved WWECW.

It sounds like he's the new Steven Richards.
Jobber most of the time, but trainer of part-timers when needed.
I'm sure Richards trained Shane McMahon for his match against Shawn Michaels on Saturday Night's Main Event back in 2005.

If you expand it out to just people who were on the WWECW roster you've still got Kane, Mark Henry, and Goldust milling around. And Finlay as a backstage guy.
Shelton Benjamin and Matt Hardy possibly coming back too.

He did. January 22, 2008. Also, Sheamus is still around and doing pretty well for himself although I don't dig his hairdo, facial hair or entrance music these days.
It should be noted that although he appeared on RAW and did some SD! house shows and even the odd dark match, Sheamus' official televised wrestling debut was on the June 30, 2009 ECW.

I actually loved the New Superstar Initiative in general. They'd sometimes wind up debuting 3 or 4 people in one night, but giving them all different directions.
Even if one of those guys did end up being Braden Walker.

So apparently the WWE rejected Swagger's request to get immediately released and also gave him no permission to be on upcoming indie shows.
The WWE officially announced today that Jacob Hager, aka Jack Swagger, has not been released, even though he said that he was leaving the company on Wednesday.
Where this gets interesting is that Swagger has been announced for several shows next weekend in the U.K., the first being a singles match on March 10th against Alberto El Patron in Norwich, England for the WAW promotion.
WWE claims he can not do that match, noting that when he is officially released, at that point he would have a 90-day non-compete period where WWE will pay him based on his downside guarantee, but during that period he can't wrestle anywhere else, whether that be promotions they consider rivals, television promotions, or anywhere else.
"He's currently under contract to WWE," said a WWE company source. "When he is released, he would have a 90 day non-compete."
Swagger appeared on Chael Sonnen's "Beyond the Fight" podcast earlier this week to announce that he had requested his release from WWE and to explain why he made the decision.

Swagger might want to ask Alberto about a good lawyer...

Doubt that will work since it seems like he made the announcement before starting the actual paperwork needed which caught the WWE completely off guard. Same for them finding out he already got booked for several indie shows next week.
