In this week’s Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer reports the current idea is to build to a Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match at the SuperDome in New Orleans for WrestleMania 34. Meltzer reports the goal is to solidify Roman Reigns as the company’s top babyface going forward. Just as WrestleMania 31 was originally intended to be, WrestleMania 34 will mark Roman’s coronation as the WWE SuperStar of this decade. The match is expected to be for the Universal Title, which would indicate Lesnar will gain the belt at some point prior to WrestleMania next year.

Meltzer does notate this does not mean either Brock or Reigns will be victorious at WrestleMania this year and that plans in WWE can always change. Keep in mind, this is where they want things to be in one year and they don’t have any reason to rush there in the meantime. Also worth noting is that Brock is entering the final year of his current contract with WWE and is scheduled to work quite a few more dates in the next year than he has since returning to WWE.

WrestleMania 34 will take place in New Orleans at the SuperDome on April 8, 2018.

I'd like to believe WWE management are smarter than that... I'd like to believe that, but recent years have shown me otherwise. I just pray that somehow a miracle happens and WWE's plans are derailed in spectacular fashion beforehand. That or I guess I could hope for Roman to actually get good by then, but honestly I think a freak miracle is more likely at this point.

Eh, I wouldn't let one potential/likely match deter you from attending. Everyone I know who went to XXX said New Orleans is the perfect city to host WM because of it's atmosphere and how insanely close the SuperDome, Axxcess and Arena that hosts HOF/RAW/NXT/SD are to one another (walking distance).

I meant I might not even be watching by then. I'm certainly not going to be able to afford to go as I'm closing on a house next month and am gonna take it "easy" for a while whilst I re-build my savings.

Can we just talk for a second about how I realized BrotherVitoDeleted can be called BVD.

This is amazing. Where is Frank Drebin? Drebin would be very excited about this. Is BVD still an underwear brand or did they go out of business? Does anyone know? Is BVD wearing BVD?! How did I not notice this before? Has BVD ever sponsored a WWE ppv?

Big Vic

Never heard of BVDs

In 1951, the brand was purchased by Superior Mills. BVD was first to start packaging (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packaging_and_labelling) underwear in plastic bags for the mass market (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_%28economics%29). In the 1960s and 1970s, they started introducing sportops, a pocket T-shirt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-shirt), and fashionable underwear made of nylon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nylon).[citation needed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] In 1976, BVD was purchased by Fruit of the Loom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit_of_the_Loom), which brought the brand to a worldwide market.[citation needed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] On April 9, 2002, Berkshire Hathaway (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkshire_Hathaway) purchased Fruit of the Loom.[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BVD#cite_note-3)

Eh, WM30 was April 6th.

It's usually the first Sunday of April or the last Sunday of March. I assume there was already something going on on those dates next year. This is the latest in the year it's ever been.

As for the match, they should have just manned up and followed through with Reigns winning the title at 31. It's not like they've taken advantage of the extra time they bought themselves and beating Lesnar is never gonna mean as much as it would have at that time. He was coming off ending the streak and squashing Cena for the title. He was unstoppable. Now he's dropped the title in the least climactic way, Taker's gotten his win back and Goldberg has destroyed him twice. Not exactly the star maker he was at that point.

Do they wait until after March Madness?

I know the Royal rumble is always the week of 'no football' between the final playoff game and the superbowl.

That would make sense. It seems like WM used to be either the last week of March or first week of April.

Assuming its true, probably means Reigns rumored heel run would be pretty short since Lesnar as a face wouldn't make sense unless the WWE dropped his beast or final boss-like character they've built up for him for years.

Meltzer did tease a while ago about the WWE having years worth of Mania plans to make Reigns a new mega star but next year was rumored as Reigns last chance before they move on to someone else.

I dunno, a heel Reigns, with bad Usos beating down and cheating Lesnar out of his title at Summerslam could be a possibility. A Lesnar return and rumble win as a chasing face would be a very watchable scenario.

If the goal is to do one last coronation or cement him as the next Cena, can't really do it as a heel.

Also don't think the WWE has ever coronated a new mega star as a heel before. Maybe could make a case with Triple H but that might be a stretch since Stone Cold and Rock were still bigger stars during Triple H's rise as a top star.

Roman's WM "Coronation" history will read as follows:

WM31 - Roman coronated against Brock Lesnar...wait, that didn't work
WM32 - Roman coronated against HHH...wait, that didn't work
WM33 - Roman coronated against The Undertaker....I'm just going to out on a limb here...
WM34 - Roman coronated by Brock Lesnar twice in a lifetime....wait a second, what's that famous Einstein quote?

My understanding is Reigns vs Lesnar is not the main event for 34. I was told is more likely for SummerSlam.
