BREAKING: WWE in talks to purchase Ring Of Honor

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that Sinclair Broadcast Group, the current owner of Ring Of Honor, is in talks with WWE about a potential purchase of ROH.


Satin said WWE and Sinclair Broadcast Group have been in discussions since January according to multiple sources. WWE is interested in a complete buyout of Ring Of Honor and the deal would see ROH become a weekly series on the WWE Network.


However, the discussions are just that at this point and there is no deal on the table, so things could fall through, of course.

I'd assume if they bought ROH, it would be just for the tape library and some talent contracts since they already have EVOLVE for developing non-NXT indie talent. Rest of the company has too many problems currently going on to be worth keeping.

Same for when they were rumored to be interested in buying TNA since they only cared for the library and maybe a few contracts.

Turns out the WWE only wants to purchase rights to use old ROH footage for some of the wrestlers on their roster according to the Observer

Joe Koff had something sent to ROH talent to tell them that the discussions with WWE regarded licensing old footage from their library.


The Observer did hint if ROH does sell them the rights to part of their library, it would just be a matter of time before the WWE made a bid to purchase the rest and start the process to get ROH to shut down.
