View Full Version : Randy Orton attacking "indie wrestling"

Keeps posting stuff on Twitter "making fun of" indie wrestling or w/e... seems really annoying... All his matches are incredibly boring to me.

Don't wanna sound like "that guy," but Randy is the last guy who should have anything to say about the indies. He was pretty much afforded every opportunity when he started his career and didn't have to wrestle at a VFW or YMCA in front of 8 people. He's very lucky in that regard and doesn't seem to appreciate the fact

Maluco

Sums up typical arrogance about their subpar product to be honest. Orton has coasted through the majority of his career despite being a star, and should be embarrassed at how bad his Bray feud just was.

For the money he makes and the size of his company, it was as nonsensical, illogical and ridiculous as anything going on at any indie show.

Mr. Pierre
05-15-2017, 07:19 AM
I'm sure he does feel that way to a degree, but he's also very smart. Could make an awesome heel as a guy who has no respect for the indy style/process and holds down every indy "star" as WWE Champ.

Sounds like a great feud for Sami Zayn this summer if this rant ever makes television.

Also, it adds that Orton is WWE Champion. He's desperate to not relinquish the company to the indy marks

I feel this is a half work and has potential to ignite a new character

I'll go into more detail later. But Orton isn't wrong with his criticism of Indy Wrestling. That said, if he had ever worked an Indy, we wouldn't know his name.

Rip Rogers, however, doesn't have the hypocrisy attached to him. And Ospreay is one bad dive away from not making another dollar in this business.

Agree 100% with Randy on this.

I'm sure he made the tweet in response to people criticizing his work. Meanwhile his work is putting butts in seats.

I'm not shocked that point is lost on the majority of people here.

As for Randy's path to the show. Yeah, he got helped by his last name, but it's not like every kid of a wrestler is guaranteed 13 world titles and to be the current top guy on one of the brands. You gotta earn that.

When you buy a ticket to SDL, you know Randy we'll be headlining. Don't get me wrong, Vince is really putting the butts in the seats by putting WWE on the marquee, but Randy's in ring work, promos and package is putting people in the building.

Not for me and I can only speak for myself.

When I went to SmackDown in Glasgow in November, I bought my ticket because I wanted to see guys like Bryan, Styles, Miz, Bliss, Natalya, Lynch and even Curt Hawkins.

They got my butt in a seat.

I never even gave Randy a second thought. In fact, when Wyatt came out with Orton and Harper, I thought to myself "Oh yeah, Orton's with Wyatt".

I complete forgot about Orton.

Cool King
05-15-2017, 10:15 AM
I can however see where Orton is coming from and he does speak a bit of truth.

As for the "hit everyone with each other's finisher" part, the WWE do that a lot themselves, usually in six-man tag matches.

They actually did pretty much just that only last week on SmackDown in the main event, which Orton was a part of.

As promised: More Detail.

Indy Wrestling has its formula and, at the low levels, it's fine. As you get to the cusp of WWE, however, it gets ridiculous. Being able to make people give a shit about a character? That's too much effort. Here's 15 high spots and 100 superkicks.

The boys used to make it look like they were really fighting to impress the girls. Now they seem to make it look like they are really putting on a good stunt show to impress the dudes. The only women at the shows these days are the ones bringing their kids.

That said, Orton has 0 room to talk. He got to where he is today because his Daddy was involved in the Main Event of the first Wrestlemania. The only other promotion he worked for was OVW, the feeder fed to WWE. If he had to work at Indy's, he would have washed. If he had to work the Territories, his shit attitude would have gotten him ran out of the business on a rail. Angle shooting on him in the opening minutes of the second "One Night Stand" would have been a regular Tuesday. And he himself isn't exactly Mr. Charisma, regardless of what the rest of TPDub has ever thought.

As for the Ospreay-Rogers bit. First off, Ospreay should show some damned respect to Rip. Rogers has forgotten more about this business than most will ever know. He worked the Territories. He had a brief cup of coffee in WCW, feuding with Brian Pillman. He had runs in GWF and SMW. And he is the head trainer of OVW.

Ospreay is still young, but he'd be best serve to listen more than he talks. He's following that same road of being a Mark that haunts the Dumb Fucks. Is he making good money? For 2017, I guess. But with the way he works, it's easily going to be temporary, unless he changes up his style. That said, the money he's seeing is likely less than what Rogers seen in his day, even when he was working underneath in Calgary.

He doesn't really headline that much. Even as the champ he's not really that much of a focal point of Smackdown.

Good worker, fairly polished but not really a massive star.

I'm not complaining about what he's saying about the Indies, I couldn't give less of a shit, he's entitled to his feelings. But Randy is nothing special. He is actually the definition of a B+ player.

Pretty much since Mania, the WWE title has either felt like an after-thought or behind the US and Women's titles for Smackdown. Then again that was around the same time the feud with Bray fell apart in terms of interest.

Not even his feud against Jinder has a big fight feel to it yet and Jinder doing all the work for hype.

Ol Dirty Dastard
05-15-2017, 08:41 PM
And before CyNick gets upset on behalf of Randy Orton, I have to make clear, I think Randy Orton is very good. But whether it's because of the way he's been presented/booked or his own lack of motivation, there is nothing must see about him. Therefore, he is not special.

Every so often he'll get a "star" pop. Well shit, I'd hope so, he's been around now for the better part of 2 decades.

Emperor Smeat
05-15-2017, 09:01 PM
Even Orton himself implied in recent interviews about being very unmotivated over the years as a wrestler. Some of it likely due to him mellowing out ever since starting a family.

Only felt really motivated for the Bray feud because of Bray and getting to play a Wyatt version of his Viper character. Although those interviews were usually before the big feud twist and wouldn't be surprised he's back to half-assing things again.

All these indy wrestlers responding and feeling the need to defend themselves or whatever just makes it all seem so childish and petty. Would be better off just shrugging it off and letting Randy say whatever he wants. Low Ki can comment about Orton surviving in "the real world", but Low Ki couldn't get by in the WWE. Works both ways. I agree with Orton to a degree. I also agree with criticisms aimed at him.

Ultimately none of this is relevant and is a good waste of everyone's time.

Once the Wyatt vs. Orton thing started I was gone again. I dont get the hype over Wyatt, he seems like wrestlecrap/cringe to me with the Sister Abagail stuff and Ortons a black hole of entertainment to me. I'm no Indy lover but I cant say Ortons ever got me to tune in to WWE either.
