I legit thought that by getting away from the development issues the first one had and killing off the last gen consoles they could come up with something massively improved learning from the mistakes of the original. Now it looks like a DLC pack, except you start from 0 and they ruined the best part of PVP.

I saw a leak about half hour before the start time and just groaned as it seemed legit, even though it seemed stupid.

For as much shit as it gets, WoW has found that sweet spot of catering to both sides.

The raids (at least in MoP and WoD) were some of the best raids they had ever done. I haven't seen much of Legion's. But the content is challenging for those that want the challenge, while the "training wheels mode" (LFR) is super casual and you can basically drool on your keyboard and see the content. Win-win.

Xbox foregoes chatboxes for voice chat. They have made it easier than any point in the past to both find a group and jump right in to party chat with said group.

Between "clubs" and "Looking for more" feature released in the last update, there are zero excuses. Of COURSE there will be elitists. I would think said public groups LF1M will specify how hardcore of a group they will be in any description. This is not hard and the more of a player base that gets to see this kind of content, the happier the players will be.

Similar to the first game, Bungie has no plans to develop a Switch port for the sequel. Also squashed the idea of them reconsidering the decision within a year.

The game's project lead stated its mainly due to the game being online-only and them thinking it wouldn't be a good fit for the system.

Talking with IGN, project lead Mark Noseworthy stated that the developer isn't working on a port and doesn't think that the game would work on Switch. "I think it's pretty unrealistic, given we're an online-only game, right?" he said. "[The Switch is] incredible, I love the console, but in terms of where it's at, I don't want to leave anyone with the possibility of, like, 'It's a thing we'll consider, maybe next year.' There's no plans right now for Switch."

Destiny 1's Grimoire Cards are getting ditched for this game according to Bungie. Same for having parts of the game's lore be locked away from normal ways of playing the game.

According to a report on Forbes, Destiny 2 is ditching both the Grimoire Cards and a whole bunch of required, out-of-game reading for more conventional methods.

Bungie developer Steve Cotton told Forbes' Erik Kain that the studio "[Wants] to put the lore in the game. We want people to be able to find the lore. All the story is told through the Adventures, it's told through the characters in the world, it's told through the campaign and it's told through scannables you find throughout the world."

Bungie claiming issues with the PS4 Pro's CPU is the main reason why the Pro version of the game will be the same 30FPS framerate as other versions.

Speaking to Digital Foundry, Destiny 2 bosses Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy mused on the possibility, but stated that they just couldn't get it to work: "The console, the PS4 Pro is super powerful, but it couldn’t run our game at 60. Our game’s this rich physics simulation where collision of players, networking, etc, and like, it wouldn’t run… [there’s] not enough horsepower there."

While Noseworthy does explain that the GPU is powerful enough to push 4K upscaling, the CPU side is the one that's lacking. He explains, "Destiny’s simulation, like we have more AI, more monsters in an environment with physically simulated vehicles and characters and projectiles, and it’s part of the Destiny magic, like that, like 30 seconds of fun, like coming around a corner and throwing a grenade, popping a guy in the head, and then you add like five, six, seven other players in a public event; that is incredibly intensive for hardware."

Nah, AMD CPUs are hamstrung by 10 year old tech and shitty efficiency that has now been rectified with Ryzen, but not in time for Pro/Scorpio. All those consoles have done is boost the GPU to get a higher resolution.

They could tone down elements of the world to get the framerate up, but the CPUs are so hamstrung that just toning down the graphics to prioritise framerate just isn't that possible anymore.

Still, Ryzen is so fucking good that the next iterations should be a lot better.

Oh, I also watched Giant Bomb play the strike at the demo and it looked pretty good. Might be a good podcast game if they can actually keep that quality up throughout the whole package, which was one of the worst parts of the original. So inconsistent.

Here is a compilation of everything we know about Destiny 2. If I missed anything, please tell me along with the source you confirmed this from so that I can add it to the list. If you want me to give you the source for anything listed here, let me know and I will provide.

Game:

--Xbox One and PS4 editions of the game to release September 8, 2017.
--PC edition of the game to release at a later date.
--PC edition is releasing at a later date to make the game feel designed for PC as well to not be "just a port."
--Xbox One and PS4 editions are capped at 30 FPS (Xbox Scorpio TBD)
--PC will run an uncapped framerate.
--Beta dates expected to be revealed at E3 (Will Update)
--Season Pass available for preorder, with the first expansion to be related to Osiris and the second to be related to Rasputin.
--Destiny 2 will run a Dedicated Servers/P2P hybrid.
--Vanilla max level will be level 20 and max light is unknown.
--You will be able to travel from place to place in your director without needing to go to orbit.

Gameplay:

--Gunplay and UI to remain the same as Destiny 1, with a few minor changes.
--Subclass perk trees have been simplified to two paths to choose from. These paths require an item to unlock.
--Each class has a class ability, with Hunters having a Shadestep 2.0, Warlocks having a placeable rift that heals or gives you bonus damage (think a current Ward of Dawn without the bubble, just effects), and Titans having a placeable barrier.
--Each class ability has different upgrades.
--The following subclasses are being improved, but are more or less the same as D1 subclasses: Gunslinger, Nightstalker, Voidwalker, Stormcaller, Striker and Sunbreaker.
--The following subclasses are being replaced: Sunsinger, Defender and Bladedancer.
--Dawnblade is the new Warlock solar subclass, which gives you the ability to fly and chuck flaming swords. (Gameplay already available)
--Sentinel is the new Titan void subclass, which gives you a shield that you can throw, hit stuff with and use to defend. Think the Aegis from Vault of Glass that you can throw and doesn’t have a “defense buble.” (Gameplay at E3)
--Arcstrider is the new Hunter arc subclass, which is basically a MUCH more agile Bladedancer with a pole instead of a blade. It has been said by Bungie that this subclass makes good use of the Hunter’s dodge ability.
--Titans and Warlocks can no longer Titan or Warlock skate.
--Driveable tanks are seen in the trailer.
--Iron Banner and Trials of the Nine (Same as Trials of Osiris) are game modes as they are now.

Gunplay:

--Light Machine Guns are not in Destiny 2. SMG’s and Grenade Launchers are now present in Destiny 2.
--The weapons system is being reworked. Instead of Primary, Secondary and Heavy Weapons, we now have Kinetic, Energy and Power Weapons.
--Kinetic Weapons are non-elemental weapons that include Hand Cannons, Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Scout Rifles, SMG’s and Sidearms.
--Energy Weapons are elemental weapons that include Hand Cannons, Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Scout Rifles, SMG’s and Sidearms.
--Power Weapons are elemental or non-elemental weapons that include Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, Fusion Rifles, Rocket Launchers and Grenade Launchers.
--Bosses and higher health enemies are being adjusted to compensate for these changes.
--Enemy Guardians in PVP now require a few more shots from each Kinetic or Energy weapon to kill.
--Melee’s now three-shot in PVP.
--Sticky Grenades no longer one-shot in PVP.
--Power Ammo spawns more frequently in PVP, but only the person who picks it up gets the ammo.
--In the Crucible, Power Weapons will deal more damage to a super of the same element (Ex: Solar Weapon does more damage to Gunslinger).
--All supers are now a two-shot kill from other supers.
--Swords are also confirmed to be in Destiny 2.

Armor:

--Intellect, Discipline and Strength values are no longer on armor and no longer affect cooldown time for abilities.
--Armor, Recovery and Agility are no longer customizable through subclass perk nodes, but through armor.
--From what we have seen, Hunter armor is more agility focused, Warlock armor is more recovery focused, and Titan armor is more armor focused.
--Artifacts are no longer in the game, but have been replaced by Clan Banners.
--We have yet to see what Clan Banners do.

Exotics:

--We have seen four confirmed exotic weapons as of now: Dubious Volley (Exotic Rocket Launcher), Riskrunner (Exotic SMG), Sweet Business (Exotic Auto Rifle) and Sunshot (Exotic Hand Cannon).
--Bungie has stated that the rarity of exotics will be in the middle of Year One and Year Three.

Story:

--The vanilla story will have more cutscenes than Destiny and all of the expansions did combined.
--We will lose our powers, but regain the via a shard of the Traveler in the European Dead Zone.
--Current planets include Earth, Nessus, Io and Titan.
--As of now, we will be seeing the Cabal, Vex, SIVA Fallen and Hive in vanilla Destiny 2.
--The first mission is not Homecoming, as shown in the gameplay reveal. There will be a tutorial mission beforehand.
--One social space is confirmed as of now, which is the Farm. More, perhaps?

Crucible:

--New and improved UI that shows who on both teams has a super.
--The game calls out when and where power ammo is picked up, and by whom.
--The game tells when somebody uses a super.
--Kinetic and Energy weapons take a few more shots to kill than current Primaries and Sidearms.
--Not too much has changed otherwise that we now of right now.

Bunige announced several dates for the game's upcoming beta with PS4 owners getting it first.

By way of pre-orders you'll be able to play it on PS4 first on July 18 at 10AM PT, followed by July 21 access at that same time in an open format. The Xbox One beta kicks off a day later on July 19 at 10AM PT, and will also open up on July 21. PC access unfortunately is scheduled for "late August," which is right before the game is even out on consoles in September (the full PC edition will hit a month later in October).

I finish the first mission. And the only options I have are the Strike and a couple multiplayer modes. And supposedly they're opening up The Farm for a single hour........sometime. Not much of a test if you ask me.

During the alpha & beta tests for Destiny 1, we had all of Earth to explore, a handful of missions, a strike, golden chest hunting, some multiplayer, AND IF YOU WERE LUCKY AND TIMED IT RIGHT, went and explored the Moon.

Don't even get me started on the weapons.:fu:

I've played enough. I'm going to pass on this for right now. If I got a bunch of friends who grab this and need an extra guy, I'll get it on the cheap. But for now, no reason to rush to Gamestop and put down $5.

Kalyx triaD

Either way I don't think sales are gonna be what they want it to be. It's very clear Destiny as a series will not be one of the big franchises Halo was.

Between that and CoDWW2's similar lukewarm image, Activision needs to do some soul searching. Overwatch, Halo 5, Battlefield 1, GTA Online, and Titanfall 2 have varying populations but very strong attachment with the gamers they have. And they all have very strong post-releases. These are literally Destiny and CoDs weaknesses.

They have to adjust.

Australia and Japan to get the game first due to the staggered midnight release system setup by Bungie. US will get the game last but with a twist.

Given that Destiny 2 is such a massive online-only release with millions of worldwide fans, it's tough to just flip a switch and have everyone get access at the same time. To combat any server stoppage problems, Bungie is rolling out a staggered launch schedule, with certain regions gaining access before others.

The way it works is that once it hits midnight in any given region, you're good to go. Australia and Japan get in first, then naturally most of Europe, then the US. But the latter region has a proviso -- if you live on the west coast, you'll be able to access the game at 9PM PT, the same time as east coast midnight. This is for PS4, mind, as a result of a Sony-specific announcement, but we've reached out to Microsoft to confirm that they're doing the same rollout.

You know the bright engrams thing seemed okay to me. A little slimey to put mods in them and not just cosmetic stuff, but whatever. Not like you can get exotic armor or weapons or anything.

But that shader bullshit is just blatant greed. No reason to change how it was before, other than to force people to buy the bright engrams.

Xbox One version currently dealing with a bug involving the game's matchmaking system.

Unfortunately if it happens while your playing, there is no quick fix for it and need to wait till Bungie fixes the system. They did say it shouldn't take long for them to fix the matchmaking system though.

While Destiny 2 players on PS4 have faced connection and crashing issues, the Xbox One version hasn't been entirely issue-free. A new problem involving matchmaking has surfaced that is preventing some players from accessing the Crucible and certain aspects of the game.

Bungie confirmed on Twitter that it's aware of issues with "long matchmaking times," which may present the error code Mongoose. The developer didn't have any tips for working around the issue, but it did say it's adjusting matchmaking settings to reduce wait times.

"We're changing the way Matchmaking evaluates new players in the system with no previous Matchmaking history," Bungie said on its forums. "That evaluation period will be shorter for faster and simpler matchmaking. Beyond the new user experience, Matchmaking settings will be unchanged."

In regards to the shaders controversy, Bungie isn't budging on changing or tweaking the new shader system.

The game's director downplayed the complaints and even tried to spin this as being good for players since they should be wanting to replay missions and events as many times as possible.

The game's director, Luke Smith, attempted to address the issue over Twitter this week, downplaying the nature of the new shader mechanic and attempting to explain that it's actually good for the game.

Smith retorts that players should be "flush with shaders," while playing, that they drop more often at 20, that it's a "unique reward" for playing (hey just like the old shaders), and that you'll want to repeat events to get more shaders.

That reasoning for the shaders is fucking retarded. It's a loot grind game. People are going to replay events regardless of whether shaders are involved.

Secondly, Even well past level 20, you get better shit enough that you can't keep a full set of armor with the same shader for more than 10 minutes.

Making shaders consumables wouldn't have been so bad if the shader altered colors for the entire set like the first game. As it is, separating it into each armor part borks it all up.

End of the day, I'm glad the one bullshit Destiny 1 type decision they made was for something that's only cosmetic.

Besides the shader blunder, I'm really enjoying the game.

Campaign was much better than the first. Nothing groundbreaking, but it does a good job getting you more invested in the universe and it's characters.

I'm guessing that massive fleet at the end of the post credits scene is the Nine, and they'll be the antagonists of one of the expansions.

One reason that I came back to the original so much is the art design. The game is gorgeous to look at. Not just because of the graphics although those have notably improved. There's just so much sci fi scenery porn here. The zones of each planet are more unique, and also offer more verticality.

Hell of a lot more to do in this game as well. In addition to strikes, and patrols, there are also Adventures, which serve as side missions to the main story. They're kind of like mini strikes. There's also lost sectors which are semi hidden areas with a loot chest guarded by a bunch of enemies and a boss. Public events were in the first game, but now you can see on your map where they are and how long til they happen, and the rewards are better. Also, challenges in each planet that Ikora rewards you for completing. I actually had to unlock patrols through a post campaign mission, and there's a couple more of these available. So there might be another activity or two that I don't know about yet.

Tried 3 of the 5 strikes, and they were a lot of fun. The boss fights seem to have a gimmick to them that adds a bit of depth, so it's not just a bullet sponge fight.

If you skipped the first one, or got bored with it quick like I did, I'd give the series a second chance. This is a much better experience imo, even if the dress up portion is wonky right now.

Now that I'm into the post game content, the shaders stuff isn't so bad. Main thing thats turned me around is the legendary drop rate. Game practically drops them lkke candy, so if you put together a set of armor you like, you can put a shader on all of it, and just infuse stuff to keep it leveled. I'm sitting on 80 legendary shards and have been infusing stuff right along.

So if there's a shader I like, say a nice darkish purple set, I'm gonna get that exact shader a bunch of times to get my gear set matched up?

I changed my main colors maybe four times ever in D1, so the changes hurt me the most. I like having a main shader. Forever. Not this thing where on top of RNG changes I have to hop I get the same shader basically everytime.

How does the game know which shader I prefer?

Whenever the game drops a shader, it gives you 2-4 at once.

Say there's a shader called Sexy Violet. I love it. I want it all over me like a seductive cheese dip.

Am I getting that 2-4 times at once? Or are you saying the drop rate theoretically gives me more chances to get that shader?

Fignuts
09-11-2017, 07:09 PM
2-4 times at once, so you'll be able to put it on several pieces of armor right off the bat. Can't control which shaders randomly drop. You can see which shaders the factions give out in their legendary engrams, and you can just grind out tokens to get more of the ones you want, but outside of that you don't have any control over what shaders drop.

I'm at 263 light right now and I'm sitting on a ton of shaders. Many of which I've gotten more than once, including legendaries.

Shaders are attached to the specific armor piece its equipped to, so if you're the type who likes to just equip more powerful armor instead of infusing what you like, then the new system is going to suck for you.

Like I said, best thing to do is hold onto your shaders until you find a set of armor you like, apply the shader, and then infuse it with more powerful gear as you come across it. It actually makes for an interesting way to collect gear. I'm going to put together different sets of armor that buff the different hunter classes, and then swap out armor when I switch sub classes.

Another cool thing is that you can now apply shaders to weapons, ships, and sparrows.

Ouch, looks like you're locked out of shit you used to be able to do and some weapons you used to be able to get unless you pay up for the DLC again? Fuck me, I was waiting to see if this bullshit would go on again.

Curse of Osiris, which came out Tuesday, raises the caps on Destiny 2character and Power levels. It also raises the requirements for endgame activities across the board, like the raid and Nightfall strike. Whereas in vanilla Destiny 2 the tougher, Prestige versions of both the raid and Nightfall asked you to have a minimum Power level of 300, they now want you to be 330.

The problem here is that if you don’t have Curse of Osiris, you’re capped at 305 Power, and you can’t actually enter those activities until you buy the expansion

Prestige Raid also not possible to play without DLC. Was part of base game.

Nightfall was also part of the base game, now locked behind the DLC.

Trials of the Nine, basically the competitive weekend playlist, locked behind DLC. Was part of base game as well.

Looks like it might be possible to refund the base game though:

That's actually how it's always kinda been. The new high end gear is often DLC and the an update tends to add new stuff to the endgame. You always had to spend money to keep up in power and activities.

This paid content thing is starting to hit hysteria levels. Not every DLC item is a cause worth rallying against, unless everybody actually wants to spend $90 on a game. I would, but most would not.

#BROKEN Hasney
12-07-2017, 09:38 AM
Yeah, it always has been, but locking people out of activities that were already doable (especially on PC which has only been out for a month and a half) should be unacceptable. They should make a compelling reason to buy the DLC rather than make people feel like they have to.

I wasn't mentioning new high level gear either. I was saying that certain previously obtainable gear is now not obtainable.

EDIT: Thought I had that part in my original post, but I didn't. Here it is:

Non-DLC users cannot unlock the Exotic Shotgun as they changed the quest (basically prestige Nightfall [Arms Dealers]) to match the new prestige requirements. This is content that I was going to do even if I didn't want to do prestige raid. (The quest itself still says Required Power Level: 300)

https://imgur.com/a/WxZoE (First Picture is of me being in the quest and then dying to show the rec power level 330 and the 2nd is of the quest in the game after the dlc. It remains unchanged and still shows 300)

You cannot hit 330 without the DLC as you are locked into 300/305 until you are level 21-25 which is only available in the DLC. Scaling makes this pretty close to impossible for the majority of the players to overcome basically paper armor armed with peashooters mode. I just want my shotty :<

(I thought my friends and I could just slowly hit 300 then grab the shotgun but apparently nope PC only gets 6 weeks then its off the the chopping block)

It helps that the grimoire was a written account of lore. It gave background to the things we did and the places we explored, as well as allowed them to tell side stories.
Like if D1 didn't have a grimoire, we wouldn't know anything about Dredgen Yor or the fate of Eris' fireteam, or the ahamkara, or the Nine, or the happenings in the Vault of Glass.

Like reading about Eris' fireteam and what they encountered gave context to what we encountered in the Crota's End raid. Reading about Rasputin or the Ishtar Collective scientists or the Fallen in general gave us insight and context for the game's story missions. Everything had another layer beneath it.

Like finding a dead Titan on the Moon way back during the beta, and your Ghost wonders who it is. Then six months later, reading in the grimoire that the titan Vell Tarlowe was killed in that exact spot back when Eris was on the moon.
Or finding a glowing shield in the Vault of glass that protects you, then reading Kabr's accounts of how the Vex, and how he broke apart a shell of a Gorgon and made a shield with his light.

There was just cool s***. Now there is no more cool s***. There are not more "Ah-ha!" moments where the lore clicks with the game and makes it seem like they thought things out way in advance.

Now its just like there's an old piece of s*** on the ground that you can scan, and then your Ghost goes "Huh, a dead shank. Hey, remember Oryx and how cool the game used to be? We haven't made any new lore since then."
Or you hold L2 on an item and get:

Cayde: "Dude, broski. I like... went fast on a sparrow."
Ikora: "Brah! Gnarly!"
Zavala: "Bro indeed. Let the records show that going fast on a sparrow is gnarly."

Wow totally can relate to that too.

I was so hyped for D2 as eventually D1 was a pretty decent game. However I stopped playing it 5 weeks ago and have only gone back the once to play laser tag. That shit was crazy dope.

Still hopeful they can sort out all the issues in this game but for the time being I will stick to Fortnite or even GTA

nevermind, they bungled it yet again.

Previously you could join a different faction for each character on your account. Now you can only join one faction across all characters. That would be shitty by itself, but on top of that, there are exotic weapon catalysts exclusive to each faction.

They're doing this to make choosing a faction a "meaningful choice". However most people believe that's bullshit and they're only doing it so people will keep playing through til the September update so they can get all the faction stuff.

Personally, I'm not bothered that much by it, but I understand why others are up in arms about it, and I definitely think it was a bad decision on bungie's part. The best way to keep people playing your game is to add meaningful content that they enjoy participating in. Not by forcing them to grind by removing player freedom and choices.

I was excited about the upcoming Armor Sets and the possibilities involved, but now I'm not sure I have faith in bungie to deliver on it after this.

Anyway, I thought New Monarchy would win again, but since Dead Orbit has the Graviton Lance catalyst, it's definitely going to them.

No, a lot of the complaints are extremely valid. There's a reason Bungie is busting their ass basically rebooting the game over time.

What bothers me is that its almost an exact repeat of D1 in terms of "learning from mistakes". Wasnt that one of the points of moving from D1 to D2?

Kalyx triaD
06-03-2018, 04:32 PM
Destiny 1 Year 3 not being basis for vanilla D2 can only be explained (imo) by the all good things added in D1 being from the live team (or B Team) while the main team took their tone deaf ideas into D2 - which had to be rebooted mid-production just like D1.

It's likely the live team and Vicarious Visions will have to save the game somemore. VV had creative and mechanical input in the Warmind dlc. But the main team is likely covering the big Sept dlc. I have little hope they learned anything.

Some cool stuff I guess. Can't hide my disappoint in armor sets. Collecting them just to have them is something you can do already. Plenty of resources out there to help you track what you have and what you don't.

All they had to do was literally what every loot grind game does. Get 2 pieces of an armor set, you get an additional legendary level perk. Get the whole set, you get an exotic level perk. That's it. You don't even need that on all the games sets. Just the unique ones you get from tokens, raids, and EP. That would be enough to add a ton of incentive to go get these sets and would make player customization even deeper.

But no. Bungie has to bungie.

After rewatching bungles stream it looks like the new armor perk system could potentially have a similar effect as typical RPG armor sets. Potentially. If each piece of armor in a set had perks that complimented each other, it would incite players to go out and collect them.

Another thing they need to do is set up ranks and ornament sets for all the planetary factions. Use planetary activities like adventures, patrols, and lost sectors as objectives for unlocking the ornament pieces.

Destiny 2's biggest problem from the start is that its a loot grind game where grinding half the activities in the game is worthless. They have an opportunity here to make everything in the game viable and worth the players time.

On another note, I'm not going to get my hopes up for the upcoming in game lore, but ideally I'd want to see the entire grimoire of D1 in the game as well as a new grimoire for D2. I'm a lore fiend and one of the biggest things I missed in D2 was the grimoire. Being able to read about all the major enemies I faced as well as all the cool little side stories....even back stories on crucible maps was cool.

But again, those are just my hopes. I'm not actually expecting them to go that far.

ClockShot

I'd shake up Trials a touch by adding another mode. Keep your 3-on-3 for your hardcore/co-op.

Do a battle royale/free-for-all mode (since it's all the rage these days) with like 6-8 players, no respawn, best of 10 rounds on a small/medium size map. Top half of players get a pass on the card, bottom half a strike. Another route for single player.

Still, I got a whole bunch of powerful gear, and now I know the mechanics of the raid.

Having now personally gone through it, I definitely understand bungies reluctance to add matchmaking. You can get away with one person not being micced up. Maybe 2 if the rest of the squad are experienced raiders. Any more than that, I just don't see how it would be possible.
