View Full Version : I'm so fucking tired of the WWE basically holding classic footage hostage

I got word from a couple of the guys who upload classic WWF shows on to youtube that the company is getting it taken down. Richard Land in particular . I'm so sick and tired of the company compiling all this footage and basically sitting on it forever! They are never going to upload it to the Network and it's fucking bullshit. Like would it kill them to upload some 1980 Championship Wrestling shows instead of going after anyone who makes it available to the small segment of fans who are into this. I've cancelled my network subscription. This company will not get a dime from me.

End rant.

Try dailymoton, they have lots of stuff youtube doesn't.

The guys who I get stuff from upload their better stuff on youtube. They tend to post more early 90's stuff on daily motion. Even when they keep their channels private, the WWE still finds it and gets it taken down.

Plus doesn't daily motion have a smaller limit on the length of shows? I find that full length shows get broken down into 6 smaller parts.

Hm, from what I gather (after just checking) there is some stuff that's an hour long. Maybe that's the limit.

I cant fault a company for protecting their property rights but i cant fault you for not giving them your money either

Could be similar with YouTube. When you start posting more you get more of a limit increase like a credit card.

I more or less collect full house shows from the WWF between 1979-1986, which are like 3 hours long. I do collect some t.v taping stuff if it holds some historical significance (like the Bruno Sammartino/ Larry feud, which by the way isnt on the network) Youtube's bigger limit makes it so easy to convert the video into an mp4 and upload it to my external hard drive. I can imagine it's a pain for the uploaders to have to break their footage down into smaller segments and upload them to dailymotion

I think it probably takes more effort to crack down on these sites than it would be to host the videos. Doesn't make much sense.

Oh yeah, I know I don't have a leg to stand on with this. It's just bullshit that this company buys all this footage and does hardly anything with it . Just the occasional scrap here and there

Apparently they have some weird image finder that flags videos. I'm not a big tech guy so it's hard for me to describe, but apparently it takes little work on the WWE'S behalf. That's how they even catch the private uploaders

Hm, I just checked for torrents and there's not much WWF/WWE stuff there as well.

They got all NJPW, ROH and TNA stuff but only a few RAWs.

Oh, wait, I take it back. There's a lot of it, but only recent WWE stuff, I only get a few hits when I search for WWF.

Yeah I've exhausted all the torrent stuff that I'm interested in.

It does suck for classic wrestling fans but WWE has made it clear from the start the Network is geared a lot more towards current and Attitude Era fans. Hogan era gets special treatment for classic stuff since that was Vince's first era in charge and when the big split from the NWA occurred.

Even non-wrestling shows have more importance although its also because its the best and easiest way to grow subscribers. Pretty much need classic stuff to be constantly high in their Top Watched lists to get the WWE to notice.

It's really interesting when you learn the back stories or come across something cool like footage from the WWF holding a 1983 House Show in Kuwait, or Kerry Von Erich's first appearence at MSG in 1980. Lol you haven't seen anything until you see Salvotore Bellomo vs Moondog Spot in front of a bunch of middle eastern men in full garb

Yup, that's it! He fights the great jobber to the stars Jose Estrada!

Really great show by the way. The crowd went apeshit for Larry Zbyszko vs Bruno Sammartino as expected and we get an early appearence from Hulk Hogan as a heel vs Tito Santana who was the tag Champ with Ivan Putski at the time

Welcome to 1980 my friend. His normal finisher at the time was the Axe Bomber (running clothesline, sometimes with a loaded arm pad)

Yeah, but didn't he start using it in Japan a bit later?

He was using it in his feud with Andre in 1980. That's what kick started his run with Andre. He used a loaded Axe Bomber and busted up the giant on a t.v taping. It just wasn't called the Axe Bomber then.

Hogan was really good until I'd say mid 86. His run of MSG matches in 85 with Don Muraco and Randy Savage were amazing. He had a three match series with each. The Savage feud went into very early 86

Lol because NOBODY in the WWF was ever going to pin Andre.

Hogan was a hell of a worker in his physical prime. Which as you said Gert was until 86. Funny to think Hulkamania had only run wild for a couple years at that point (maybe for a bit longer in AWA... still so weird to me how huge he was in AWA before Vince snatched him up).

What's even more incredible is he literally showed back up in the first week of 84 and within 3 weeks got the loudest pop I've ever heard at MSG. It's amazing.

Rocky 3 literally made Hogan

Which reminds me how funny Macho Man is in his "rap" song laughing at Hogan's film career and bragging about being in Spiderman for like 40 seconds.
