Like I said in the previous round, Rey Mysterio is boring as fuck in my opinion.

Love the Lesnar/Heyman duo with Heyman being great on the mic and Lesnar just being there looking like he will rip your heart out and eat it raw. I guess I prefer the powerhouse style of wrestling.

Also, Lesnar really did a lot for WWE, becoming the first ex-WWE employee to show that he's also legit in the UFC, by beating Frank Mir for the title.

So Lesnar by a milestone.

Rey Mysterio.

Honestly, both of them have all the reasons in the world why they should win this round, but in Rey's defence, Lesnar over the last few years has become lazy and has never really given a fuck about pro wrestling. Yes, he's a star attraction and worked his ass off to get to the level he's at, but ultimately, Rey would have made an effort to have a great match with Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins etc, as opposed to just fuck it I'm gonna go in suplex him to death and go home.

How is Lesnar more lazy than Rey? Dates worked? Dates being low is deliberate to keep the drawing power...feel like that is a bad comparison. The matches themselves themselves is feeding into what was over. Crowds were eating it up. Unlike Rey who was phoning it in to mixed reactions at best.

Brock Lesnar's star is in another galaxy compared to Rey. Rey was very popular, but Lesnar is a legitimate megastar, and the only reason I was keeping up with WWE for the last 18 months pre-Mania before I stopped watching.

At the end of the day, we watch wrestling for great stories, but also true, believable stars clashing with other true believable stars. We want to see what happens.

Lesnar/Goldberg was everything wrestling should be for me. Two larger than life stars clashing and you can't take your eyes off it.

Rey was entertaining, but you never watched for Rey's sake. Lesnar is money just because of who he is.

Tough choice but gave the slight nod to Lesnar.

Both are great as wrestlers in different ways. Rey has the longevity and being a legend for Lucha wrestling in the US while Lesnar has a special aura of mystic and great agility for someone of his size in a wrestling/WWE sense.

Lesnar is probably also the biggest "What If" of the post-Attitude Era considering how very different things would have been if he never left or the WWE was a bit slower with his mega rise to prevent burnout/boredom.

Brock wins and it's not even close, albeit mostly based on his 2002-2004 run. The man tore through the roster from the get-go, dominated the 2002 KotR, beat Rock for the belt @ SummerSlam that year, and was mostly unstoppable. He had an epic match with Kurt @ WM XIX and also against Eddie @ No Way Out 2004...he actually looked strong in defeat there.

Rey on the other hand feels like he has had some feel-good underdog moments, but only moments. There aren't any matches of his that I recall standing out and really wowing me.

For those reasons, I voted Brock.

Lesnar's current matches are not good at all from a "wrestling" standpoint....... but from a "spectacle" standpoint they/him are off the charts......

Lesnar over the last few years has become lazy and has never really given a fuck about pro wrestling.

Brock was brock before heyman

Calling Brock Lesnar lazy seems a bit much. Also the idea that he never gave a fuck about wrestling seems unfounded in reality. As does the idea that Brock was Brock before Heyman.

I read an interview with Heyman some years back about how their friendship began. How Brock came from a very humble place and was openly looking to be mentored. A guy with his physique and athletic talent had great odds regardless, but look at what happened to Goldberg and Giant in WCW.

Brock had one of the best rookie years I've seen and not because he won, but because of the level he was performing at and the sheer amount of work he put in to be seen as legitimate. He's genuinely the biggest thing in wrestling for the foreseeable future too.

As for Rey, still an amazing talent and athlete who made me care in the ring. I also really enjoyed his recent work in Lucha Underground. His appeal and Legendary status in Mexico also counts for a lot. I could totally go either way and justify my vote.

I have to go with guy whose matches I like more right now and that's Rey.

Yeah, literally everyone is helped along by someone. From the agents who put the matches together, to the booker who form the angle, to the vets taking young guys under their wings, to workers covering up their weaknesses in the ring or managers doing the same on the mic.

Its all the same.

I think what Ruien is trying to say is that Brock needing a manager somehow betrays a deficiency. Is that correct? Like, I think you're trying to say that Brock didn't have mic skills and only got over because of Heyman, whereas Rey doesn't have mic skills but still got over, meaning that Rey > Brock?

I don't agree, but I am just trying to follow your logic. I think mic skills are only part of the puzzle, just like your technical ability is only part of it too. I think disqualifying Brock based on Heyman being useful at the start and now is a bit silly. Brock didn't even have Heyman for most of that first run.

A wrestler who NEEDS a manager to get over typically lacks mic skills. This was the propelling point for Brock. Would he still have been great? Probably. But he needed Heyman to get to that level of superstardom.

Just on the point about Brock needing a manager somehow being a bad thing: I don't actually remember a Heyman promo from that point in time. Honestly. I remember him selling from the outside and yelling stuff out, and I do remember "The Next Big Thing" branding. What I do remember is stuff like Brock destroying Rikishi, The Hardyz, Hogan and The Rock.

I know this is a subjective poll and all that, but I don't think Destor so much disagrees with your pick as your reasoning, Ruein. I think what you're saying is that people are arguing from the position of "Brock is such a huge star," but that he wouldn't have been there without Heyman because he lacked mic skills, whereas even without mic skills, Rey Mysterio was a huge star? Like, I think I get what you mean. You're sort of saying that Brock had shortcuts and that people aren't considering those shortcuts when voting for him, and sort of using a "Brock is God" form of circular reasoning?

I still think you have to consider a hypothetical Brock in that scenario. You have to consider a Brock who didn't do the things he did in wrestling. You're sort of disqualifying Brock on his own merits then. I do think it is a weird way to think about things.

Rey didn't have mic skills either, as Destor pointed out. But are you saying that he is different because he got over without mic skills, whereas you don't think Brock hypothetically would, even though he did, because they found a way to supplement that? Hypothetically: Rey would be disqualified if small guys never won matches in the WWE (hold your jokes), but they used a big guy to be his tag team partner to introduce him and get him over, so he could then start beating people? Because if he didn't have that crutch, he never would have made it?

But isn't all booking then sort of a crutch? If Austin wasn't booked to win the WWF Title from Shawn Michaels in 1998, then maybe he would have lost steam and wouldn't have made it on his own merits? A better example: If Shawn Michaels had never gotten a look because of his size, unless he was paired with Marty Jannetty, do you need to credit Marty Jannetty with all Shawn Michaels' success?

I'm genuinely not trying to be ass, I'm just fascinated by how you've gotten to where you are, haha.
