View Full Version : If he wanted to come back, how do you bring back CM Punk?

Was just thinking about this after Better Wrestler. Punk left not wanting to do the match with Triple H, but it's hard to envision a world where Punk returns to the WWE and that match doesn't happen. But do you plug him into a main event program with Reigns? Does he call out "the golden boy" for being everything wrong with the regime? Does he get signed to Daniel Bryan's SmackDown, where he maybe clashes with Shane McMahon whilst still being a babyface?
I'm curious as to see how you would bring CM Punk back to the WWE?

Returns to ROH and defeats Bullet Club while waiting for Daniel Bryan's contract to expire for Punk/Danielson ROH Homecoming match. But its ruined by the Young Bucks therefore starting Bucks vs Punk and Bryan. Once they get rid of the Bucks they have their rightful match for the ROH World Title.
Really have no interest in him returning to WWE and I'm not a big fan of his either. I'd rather his return to wrestling actually do something for the business and if he returned to WWE that just wouldn't be the case. He'd be hot for a month or so until WWE cools him down and he'd get pissed.

Keep that he is under contract under wraps, but have him just start beefing with Roman Reigns and the "corporate WWE machine trying to push him down people's throats" via Twitter.
Then he can crash a few public appearances with a megaphone like he did that Comic-Con panel.....
Then he can take it a step further by appearing in the crowd at some house shows.
Finally on some RAW he buys a ticket and is front row. Roman Reigns comes out and calls him out, telling security to let him through. CM Punk jumps the barricade and for the first time steps back into the ring.
Some heated words are exchanged back and forth, but the end result is CM Punk agrees to fight Roman Reigns at the next PPV, which happens to conveniently be in Chicago.
The next few weeks leading to the PPV, CM Punk doesn't appear at the shows, but does appear via satellite still talking smack in sit down interviews or whatever. All the while WWE plays those sweet video packages to remind people of his career and success. One week you can even have Paul Heyman appear to talk CM Punk up, even though the two of them are no longer associated. Like trying to get Reigns to see just what he has got himself into, but Reigns just stays cocky and confident throughout.
Finally, the big moment arrives...... Chicago, Illinois, LIVE on PPV. The crowd is rabid all night, and the main event finally begins.....
CM Punk's music hits for the first time and he makes his entrance to a massive ovation.
Roman Reigns enters to boos.
The bell rings and
SUPERMAN PUNCH!!!!!!!
SPEAR!!!!!
1-2-3!!

Probably start off with something simple as having Reigns or whoever constantly boast themselves as being the "Best in the World" and trash notable big stars whenever they are in certain cities (ex. Winnipeg with Jericho, Miami with Rock, etc).
This all leads up to the next time they are in Chicago with the same routine but first a fake out to the crowd with Punk's music. After more ridiculing by whoever, Punk's music plays again with Punk showing up for real this time.
Then from there follow something in the vein of the Jericho-Punk feud from Mania 28 for Punk's first major feud back in the WWE.

Ahem.
ROH Chicago Honor Before Dishonor 17. The Main Event is between Random Strongman (c) and a mystery opponent. Rumor is it's Lance Storm or Jerry Lynn for some reason or whatever. Then, CM Punk's music hits and he runs out to a giant 500 person crowd pop. Everybody is going crazy and the match is about to start, but then Punk calls for the mic.
"Sorry, everyone, I can't wrestle tonight. You see, I just signed a contract backstage with another company you might have heard of."
Punk pulls off his shirt and it's the new John Cena shirt. Cena and Shane McMahon run into the ring. The locker room pours out, but Cena, Shane, and Punk hit a bunch of stunners on everybody. Then, Shane gets on the mic and announces that the WWE has just acquired the ROH library and all rights to the name. ROH is dead.
Punk then returns to the WWE full-time as an announcer.

I would legitimately not mind CM Punk being a commentator. That's if he has no desire to step back into the ring because he's already made more than enough money. I could see him being the color commentator for New Japan at some point.

Wrestlemania 34.
Main event.
Reigns is standing over Lesnar, assured a victory. Until...
<iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7xxgRUyzgs0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Punk runs down, annihilates Reigns with a single GTS, drapes the unconscious Lesnar on top of Reigns. 1 - 2 - 3.
Lesnar gets up, he, Punk, and Heyman start celebrating...then Punk hits a still grpggy Lesnar with a single GTS, and Heyman with one also.
Then WM goes off the air with Punk holding up the belt.

Week 2, gets attacked by Miz and co and has an impromptu mix tag with Matt hardy and Goldust
Week 3, begins a feud with Bray Wyatt
Week 4, beats Bray Wyatt
Week 5, 6, 7 series of tag matches
Week 8 Pinfall on Dolph Ziggler
Week 9 Pinfall on Dolph Ziggler

I mean maybe a small amount but fans still chant for him when an act is dragging and have wanted Ziggler to do his entrance the last couple of weeks. If and when his music hits its going to generate a huge pop. Fans will welcome him back same as they would Hogan.

To play devil's advocate to this..... Lesnar at least won a bunch too, and I don't know this for sure but I imagine he lasted longer in his losses. He also still looks like an absolute beast physically, while CM Punk does not.

How many wrestling fans seen that or even care. If you are a wrestling fan you understand that it's not real. Punk is a authentic personality that people buy can get behind. One promo and he could be over instantly with the crowd, he's not a kiss ass and would add some realism to it.

To still play devil's advocate, Destor does make a good point in that CM Punk can cut all the sweet promos he wants, but all it takes is one opponent to bring that up and there is literally no defense for Punk to make.
Of course, to play devil's advocate to myself playing devil's advocate, the WWE is great at pretending things never happened and could just put a ban on mentioning it.

As more and more guys fail tests at one point or another, that point becomes mute, I think.
Fact is, he became world champ in a sport where guys train relentlessly since childhood and are multidiscipline fighters who just move so smoothly on instinct. And he conquered that world.
He should never have taken Overeem fight so soon after intestinal surgery.
I think he was really impressive overall
Mr. Nerfect
10-03-2017, 05:34 PM
The point about Punk getting his ass handed to him is really valid. The WWE would have to pretend that it never happened. Which they would. There is no way that CM Punk becomes a mainstream draw for the WWE now. Not a chance. If the music hit? I definitely think he would get a pop, because the nerds pop at anything once or twice. But that stink is definitely going to be there -- it has come up in this conversation.
I guarantee the WWE would just bring him back and act as if he never left. But a large part of that goes against the "authenticity" of that Punk gimmick. It's hard to get around. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to bring him back as a commentator, have a lower-card heel punk him out, he gets up, beats the piss out of them, says he's not done yet, etc. To make it seem like he's good in the WWE but shit in UFC is a pretty dumb move.
