View Full Version : Early WrestleMania 34 plans as of now ***Spoilers****
Vince McMahon is looking forward to WrestleMania 34, as he expects it to be a bright spot among WWE's recent declining attendance for live events. The feeling is that WrestleMania will sell itself, on name alone, for at least several more years, even if attendance continues to decline for house shows, tv and network specials (formerly called PPV's) and that WrestleMania can continue being held in large stadiums for the foreseeable future.
Early plans for 2018's event include Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar, but that is not rumored to be the main-event of the show. Vince McMahon is aware Roman pinning Brock will likely garner a hostile reaction from the live crowd and as a result is planning on pushing the bout as a major selling point of WrestleMania to help solidify the Roman era, but not the main-event itself. John Cena vs. Jinder Mahal is expected to headline WrestleMania 34 currently. The hook for the match will be that if Cena can defeat Jinder he will break Ric Flair's World Title record but if he loses he will have to retire from WWE forever.
Other matches currently being discussed include Team Ronda Rousey vs. Team Bayley, Nikki Bella vs. Alexa Bliss, Braun Strowman vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, Bray Wyatt vs. Kalisto, Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn, Finn Balor vs. Enzo Amore, Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose, HHH/Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle/Jason Jordan and AJ Styles vs. Kane. The Andre The Giant Battle Royal is expected to return and will help get many superstars on the WrestleMania card or pre-show. Bobby Roode is said to be the early favorite to win the Battle Royal.
WWE is also looking ahead at potential WrestleMania 35 host cities and would like to have a decision made by late 2017. Favored choices thus far include San Antonio, Dallas, Miami and Tampa.

I am glad he is confident that it will continue to sell on name alone, because that card is atrocious.
Is there no understanding that things like bad writing, Roman reigns and Jinder Mahal are to blame for bad attendances? Like, does he just think the bad attendances are just one of those things?
If he does Jinder Vs Cena as the main event of Mania, I don't know what to think...preceded by Roman pinning their biggest (only?) start clean.

"Wyatt vs. Kalisto" Wrestlemania 34
"Braun Strowman vs. Shinsuke Nakamura" Wrestlemania 34

Can see the WWE and Universal matches being likely but that undercard is a mess even as a fantasy booking idea.
Cena-Jinder has been something speculated as a possibility ever since Jinder won the belt while Lesnar-Reigns II has been rumored as a Mania match ever since their first match didn't end with a Reigns victory.

There's no way Cena/Mahal will main-event Mania.
Jinder Mahal is a transitional champion.
The WWE are out to lunch if they think Mahal is a worthy of headlining Mania.
Roman and Brock will close the show, and Roman will go over. Hostile crowd or not.
Mr. Nerfect
10-27-2017, 05:41 AM
Yeah, they're not changing that plan. Unless they change that plan. I can't think of much that will dissuade Vince though. Unless he decides that his boner for The Shield is bigger than his boner for Reigns as a solo act, because at least Reigns works as the heavy in The Shield.

Still not sold on Cena going after #17 at WrestleMania. It's not going to surprise me if it does happen, and it actually makes some of the most sense right now, but I could also see Cena doing something completely different and weird at Mania. Like, Cena/Taker or Cena/AJ made the most sense at Mania this year, but look what happened. It depends what Cena's post-Mania schedule looks like too. And what he wants to do. Does he want to wrestle his buddy, Joe? Does he want a WrestleMania vanity match against AJ Styles? Does Vince want him to lose to Strowman in order to heat him back up for either Reigns or the guy who does beat Mahal?
I could see quite a few people challening Mahal, really:
* AJ Styles -- Always the best opponent for anybody, seemingly perpetually over for his talents. Him winning the Royal Rumble in Philly would also get a pop, which wouldn't be the case for Reigns or Cena, and Vince might superficially want to go out with a happy end to the Rumble.
* Finn Balor -- They seem to want to market him as a top babyface. There is limited room on Raw. Send him over to SmackDown at some point -- maybe Survivor Series is for draft picks? Balor wins the Rumble and challenges Mahal, beats him in seconds with The Club running interference, Balor gets a Mania moment.
* Big E -- I'm surprised they haven't pushed him as a star sooner. I could see a very quick turnaround on New Day plans, with Big E getting one of the more surprising Rumble victories ever (if plans don't get out), and then Big E becomes the hero SmackDown needs in ridding the WWE of Jinder Mahal. Like with The Club, Big E has two allies who can keep out the Singhs.
* Braun Strowman -- If he ends up on SmackDown somehow (let's be honest, they aren't finicky about these sorts of things) could very easily win the Royal Rumble and challenge Mahal. The crowd would pop for Braun tossing Reigns out at the end.
I would say that Cena is probably far and away the likeliest, but they could go with anyone. They could go with Mahal & The Usos vs. Cena & The New Day at this point and it wouldn't surprise me.

Owens/Zayn vs. Ambrose/Rollins seems almost too parallel to pass up as a WrestleMania match.
Triple H will be working a singles match, and he will get a very long entrance. As much as I want to go with the obvious pick and say Angle, I'm not really sure that they want Angle to "go." Triple H will want someone that he thinks will make him look good. Big entrance, getting a push, NXT guy for Triple H to help "make" even though it won't do anything for him: Finn Balor.
Shane will want a good opponent for WrestleMania too. It'd be easy enough to say Zayn, but I can't see Zayn in a high profile singles match. It'll have to be someone who can make Shane look good. I'd say Ziggler, but I can't imagine him in a high profile Mania match either. Joe? To do the MMA stuff with Shane? Bobby Roode to be the old-school heel? Rusev was originally going to be a Shane opponent. Or how about Jericho? Orton?
The Shane match is actually really hard to call.

Usually the latter although most of the time just for the main event and ideas for major matches.
WWE has mentioned in the past they start plans for the next Mania once the current year's event ends. Its mainly just an outline or idea for the main event and more ideas start to flesh out by SummerSlam.
Observer's Meltzer mentioned Vince is a lot more likely to change plans if his big ideas get leaked unless its something he is adamant of doing regardless if its leaked or not.

WWE.com just did a poll and asked who they want Angle's opponent to be. Bryan wasn't on there. Not that that means anything, but let's assuming they dig their heels in. Here's some more pointless WrestleMania speculation:
* Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Title
* Jinder Mahal vs. John Cena for the WWE Title
* AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle
* Triple H vs. Shane McMahon in a Street Fight
* Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen
* Randy Orton vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
* Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman
* Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka for the RAW Women's Title
* The New Day vs. Rusev & The Usos
* The Miz vs. Finn Balor vs. Sheamus vs. Cesaro vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Jason Jordan vs. Elias in a Ladder Match for the IC Title
There's an 11 match card that I think gets mostly everyone important on the show.

This, Sixx. It's been a "dream match" (if you're into women's wrestling) for a while, and the WWE now has Shayna Baszler under contract. Ronda Rousey is a wrestling fan, appeared at WrestleMania and has been training with Brian Kendrick.
If they could get the other two on board (not sure how they feel about wrestling), then it's easily the biggest women's match in Mania history. And I think they want to do something like that, given that apparently the theme of the latest WWE financial report was "women, women, women."

Oh shit, I meant to have Ambrose & Rollins vs. Owens & Zayn on there too. That last spot in the Ladder Match would be fairly interchangeable too. You could have Kalisto or Matt Hardy take Elias' spot and have Elias sing and get beaten up by The Rock or something.
