View Full Version : WWE in talks with Facebook for a weekly Live show
http://www.prowrestlingsheet.com/facebook-live-wwe-show/#.WhTdM1VKvrd
Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned WWE is in talks with Facebook to produce a weekly show that would air in a test run on Facebook Live. Sources with direct knowledge tell us the show would premiere in January and go live on Facebook after SmackDown goes off the air. This means 205 Live would no longer be filmed live.
We’ve heard the idea of filming the cruiserweight show before SD Live has been discussed, but it’s unclear if this will be the plan going forward yet. As for creative plans for the new Facebook show, our sources say they’ve changed a few times.
From what we’ve been told though, it will more than likely include stars from both Raw and SmackDown Live competing for brand supremacy. One source says a mixed tag team concept has been tossed around that would feature interesting combinations of male and female wrestlers, but it’s unclear if they’ve settled on that idea. For what it’s worth, WWE recently trademarked “Mixed Match Challenge” for a new possible show name.
I think this is a smart idea. Very 'forward-thinking' and leaning towards the future.

Television is a rapidly decaying medium, moves like this are cutting edge in a lot of ways.

It's good to do a Facebook show. Not sure about mixed matches or the brand thing.

I'd enjoy and watch an intergender show anytime...besides, unless something's changed, intergender WWE matches were supposed to be a part of the so-called women's evolution.

I would prefer they do like a one hour weekly recap show instead of new programming, they have EIGHT hours of first run or live programming a week, and some weeks THIRTEEN HOURS.
I bet the young fans and fans in India who watch YT clips would be more likely to watch a fb series.

With their own network and other social media outlets I really wish WWE would consider a push into some other form of storytelling that would engage us to keep up with angles leading into PPV's. Not a drama necessarily, but something different, even a late night type interview show in front of a studio audience. But yeah, when WWE does thing they usually suck so nevermind.

probably just a place to air Main Event in the States... not sure it plays anywhere other than for $9.99 stateside.....
I think it would be dope if they were to air smackdown on facebook. The viewership would be insane. If I could watch on my phone I wouldnt miss shows as much as I do.
Their tv deal expires in 2018. IIRC Meltzer said they were meeting with Universal (who owns USA/SyFy) as well as Disney (who owns ABC, ABC Family, ESPN, etc) FOX (think more along the lines of FX) as well as Amazon and Facebook.
Ya never know...

I like the idea a lot. This is the type of forward thinking that the WWE needs to have.

This is a cool thought, I guess, but will I also be able to watch this show on the Network that I'm already paying for?

You cant really watch RAW or SDL on it so it seems doubtful

They're a month behind. Dunno how a Facebook contract would work vs. a TV contract.
IIRC one of the news types said WWE wants to get away from hosting original programming on the Network and use it more for archival of old ppvs and hosting NXT Takeover/Non-Big 4 ppvs w/ maybe WM, RR, SuSl, SuSe being like 15 dollars extra to watch.

I've always thought that was a smarter model, but it is hard to convince people to go back once you've basically told them "This is all our content is worth."
Well that's fucking horse shit.
I was joking.
