Mikael Renberg will not be back with the Toronto Maple Leafs next season.
"I'm sorry I never had a chance to win the Stanley Cup, but it was three fantastic years in Toronto," Renberg tells the Toronto Star, announcing he has signed a three year deal with Lulea of the Swedish Elite League.
In three seasons with the Maple Leafs, Renberg scored 40 goals and 112 points but also spent a lot of time sidelined by various injuries. This past season he was limited to just 12 goals and 25 points in 59 games due to hamstring injuries.
The 32 year old is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after being informed by the Maple Leafs that he no longer fits into their long term plans.
Renberg joined the Leafs in 2001 after spending two seasons away from the NHL.
Thank god he's way past his prime and has done nothing for Toronto, Hopefully Reichel is next to go
