He really shot himself in the foot when he quit the WWF in 87. He and Martel were gonna get the tag straps from the Hart Foundation. The WWF also buried him on T.V worse than anybody I've ever seen.

I barely remember his matches, but I think I thought he was pretty decent. Anything on the cause?

I know Zenk had a long battle with alcohol. Could have been a cause.

I did too...I remember thinking the WCW Collector Cards were cool when I was a kid even though I liked WWF more.

When I think of watching WCW Main Event on Sunday afternoons as a kid, Zenk is one of the first guys I think of.

WWE probably wouldn't b/c they are obsessed with showing fan reactions now...but I really liked a lot of WCW's production stuff.

The 1st old school match i watched was Zenk/Martel vs Orton Muraco, Wrestlemania 3. and then on Wrestlewar 91 where Terry Taylor beat him in no-dq.

Heard the name, but never really saw any of his stuff, I don't think. Nonetheless, RIP.

He was the opponent in the debuts of the best heels WCW would have during that time. One being Big Van Vader and the other being the WCW Halloween Phantom.

R.I.P.

Bloody hell, that was a terrible promo.

Really sucks to hear about this. Had that catchy "Yeah Yeah Yeah!" theme...always thought he should have done better than he did, but you hit the nail on the head - leaving Vince was a bad move. Even being paid less than Martel, if he'd hung on he would have been given a chance for more. With his looks Vince would have marketed him well but it never got to happen.

Maybe your next book could be about all the jobbers and other lackluster rasslers.

Damn. WCW afternoon wrestling shows. So much nostalgia.

I loved those. They showed them on Polish TV with 2 drunk guys on commentary. It was glorious. They would just make up names for wrestlers and moves. Johnny B. Badd was Johnny Tutti Frutti for example.
