Wait, what was CM Punk bitter about? I don't think I know what this is about.
Bret on the other hand - pretty obvious what he was bitter about, but he apparently got over it after almost 20 years.

Well, ok then.
Bret Hart is a 60-year old bitching about a video game. CM Punk already got punished for bitching in the UFC. Bret gets my vote.

This should not be this close. Does CM Punk even talk about wrestling? To my knowledge he said his piece, and moved the fuck on.
There's been something new that Bret has bitched about every month for decades now.

Also, I would argue CM Punk had some legit reasons to be pissed off, specifically if the medical stuff was true. Cause that's fucked up if it was.

I think people are confusing disillusioned, sarcastic asshole with bitter.
Bret Hart is the GOAT of bitter wrestlers. Hes the uncle Rico of the pro wrestling world

Bret. Between having some really bad luck in wrestling and his disdain for certain wrestlers, really easy for him to stay bitter about things.

Both have good reasons to be bitter, but for some reason, Punk actually strikes me as more...dude, you were a really good talker and had some great matches, and they fucked up your booking in 2011 for Uncle Hunter, but you also kind of aren't Bret Hart. I think Punk overrates himself more, and that makes his otherwise reasoned arguments seem less objective.

I agree with most of what Noid said.
Punk comes off way more bitter to me. None of his complaining is a work either (as far as I can tell) whereas with Bret some of it is real, some of it isn't. And while both men have reasons to be bitter, I don't think Punks reasons are anywhere near the level of legitimacy that Brets are.
Also Punk was so bitter and thinks so much of himself that he thought he was going to go from being a good fake fighter to a good real fighter and show everyone he's the greatest. Then he got the shit kicked out of him. Don't get me wrong; I like CM Punk a lot but I laughed my ass off when he got discombobulated in the octagon. The Green Ranger would have destroyed him too.

Went with Bret because that was pretty much his gimmick before he headed down to WCW and have his career ended and his health ruined and quite frankly Bret is just BETTER at being bitter then Punk...with Bret it's hard to tell work or reality and he still manages to keep us complaining about him. With Punk it's like Fuck him what the fuck does he have to cry about? Hot wife, gets paid millions to job in the ufc and sit on his ass and watch hockey. Booo hoo hoo poor punk

I feel like at their peak bitterness level, Punk was probably the more bitter of the two...what with him mentioning on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast that his final year and a half with WWE made him despise wrestling and completely sucked away his passion for the business along. At the time it sounded like he viewed his entire career as a failure because he didn't get to the Mania main event.
But that podcast appearance (now over three years ago) seemed to be his one real opportunity to get the cock off his chest and ever since then he really doesn't talk wrestling anymore unless he's directly asked about it in an interview. He seems happy and that he's glad to have moved on with his life.
Bret on the other hand has been consistently bitter for over two decades and feels like he spends his free time yelling at clouds. So I went with him on longevity.

I'm still failing to see how CM Punk is bitter. He's barely ever addressed anything WWE related since the podcast and that was years ago.
His lawsuit is related to their medical practices. I'd sue too if a doctor found a staph infection that their personnel wrote off as nothing.
Fignuts
12-30-2017, 01:36 AM
And if you're just going to judge his bitterness based on that one year that he left, then comparing it to Bret Hart's monumental achievements in bitterness is laughable at best.

He basically had a temper tantrum because The Rock is a bigger star than him.
Evil Vito
01-02-2018, 02:27 PM
Punk seemed receptive to working with The Rock and, in his own words, thought it would present a good challenge. He knew Vince's vision was going to be to run Rock/Cena 2 but with the belt on the line....so Punk's personal goal was to hit it out of the park to convince Vince to make it a triple threat instead of running the same match as a year earlier.

I was on board at the time, but then I smartened up a bit. I mean, really, you have a choice between John Cena vs. The Rock and crossing into 1 million buys, or you've got a chance to do The Rock vs. CM Punk (and let's just keep the three-way thing clear, because they do suck), which one are you honestly going with?
Punk's WWE Title reign was actually boring as fuck. I don't even hate the guy, but there's a reason that other stuff was treated as being more important. It was more important. The WWE gave Punk such a long time to catch on, and he just...didn't matter. Not to the point he did in 2011 anyway.
Then it's "wah, wah -- I didn't get my pay-off." Mate, you had 400+ days or whatever to try and deliver something. It comes WrestleMania time and there's bigger fish to fry, that's at least a little bit your fault.
Mr. Nerfect
01-02-2018, 05:12 PM
Bret Hart getting shafted at WrestleMania IX is far more offensive than anything that ever happened to Punk. Except for maybe the Triple H loss in 2011.

I would have been into the 3 way.
Mr. Nerfect

You also risk the fans seeing CM Punk as the cool, edgy outsider/underdog, with the fans wanting "CM Punk!" and then being disappointed when Cena walks out with the belt.

Hard to say. A bitter taste in meat typically comes from fat, so we would have to know both of their fat percentages. I would say since Bret is quite a bit older, he must have more fat deposits, especially around the belly as men tend to gain belly fat when older, while CM Punk especially due to his mixed martial arts training is a lot leaner. I would have to go with Bret Hart.

One guy got literally forced out of a company, his championship stolen, suffered a career ending injury, and had a stroke.
The other guy didn't get to wrestle the last match of one show, even though Miz did, and had a guy make a veiled reference to a former friend from like 8 years ago.
Amazingly, the second guy is the more bitter of the two.
Mr. Nerfect
09-10-2022, 09:17 PM
I don’t think either guy is bitter. Bret works for the WWE and is regarded as one of the best of all-time. Punk’s career is less legendary, but has its spikes. He’s made a shit-tonne of money and continues to do so as possibly AEW’s highest paid guy (who knows how long that will last?). You can be cynical and critical without being bitter.
