OK my brother is getting a Xbox one we have decided to finally get internet. Getting it through AT&T and their highest speed for my area is 18mbps and my brother thinks it will be to slow for him to play on-line. Just wondering if he's correct to be worried of if it should work? Don't know alot about these new gaming systems as I haven't had one since the PlayStation 2. Also don't know anything about these internet speeds so anything would help.

You may be fine if that is the only thing the internet is being used for. You probably won't be able to stream movies while playing games for instance.

Thanks, I dont think we'll have to much of a problem with that. We all have unlimited data on our phones and are mainly just getting the internet for the XBox one.

Microsoft claims you only need 15mbps for optimal performance

Should be good then, I'll probably have more questions once every thing is installed.

Just make sure you don't have a lot of devices hooked into the router or using the wireless. That's going to bring down the signal quite a bit.

Would it help if the XBox is hooked up straight to the router? Just a plain Ethernet cable?

Yes. Direct connection to the router is best.
But, if you have other things plugged into the router (computer, other gaming consoles, etc.), you will experience speed issues. Unless you got a really good router.

Back in the day I used to run an ethernet cable from my family's modem down the stairs into the basement all the way to the back of the xbox360 to play fools in a cot damn game of Madden 08 and Call of Duty 4

AT&T has went back and forth on me. Talked to them yesterday and the lady set me up with 25mbps but got an email saying my order was on hold and needed more info. Called back and they tolld me only 18 was available but I'd have to call a different number to finish the order. Called it today an apparently 25 is available and they switched it back to that. Should be fine with that speed I assume.

My friend has AT&T UVerse and the one thing they notice is the download speeds when you are updating games. Games are updated weekly/monthly based on whichever patch is added/needed.
For multiplier games it'll be functional, with some minor problems like NAT issues and piss.
