View Full Version : Triple H expected to gain more control in the WWE because of the XFL

Despite what Vince McMahon said during the XFL press conference, according to Dave Meltzer in the most recent Wrestling Observer newsletter, many behind the scenes feel Triple H will be taking on a more pronounced role in running the WWE. Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, has been assembling his own team in NXT, including recent hire Jeremy Borash.

Meltzer notes NXT is a one-hour program aimed at insider fans while the main roster involves over five hours of television a week and monthly pay-per-views so the same approach used for NXT would not translate well on RAW and SmackDownLive. NXT’s stronger focus on long-term booking and sticking with creative decisions could benefit both main roster programs, however. Now that Triple H is also running 205 Live, expect many of the same tenets he used for NXT to be implemented there, specifically the focus on in-ring action and long-term booking.

" The focus on in-ring action and long-term booking." is not a bad plan

I'm not sure how sustainable his approach is on the main roster, nor how sincere he is about implementing it, to be honest. We've all borne witness to his career.

I'm down to let him try, though.

He's done just about everything right in NXT so why not? If you could choose between the current main roster product and the guy who ran NXT, would you really keep things as is? Imagine if he turns 205 into something semi interesting and more than just random tag matches and a kick off show title match like this is shitty universe mode in a 2k game.

I'm willing to watch regularly again if he does in fact take over. I loved nxt when I had the network and I see no reason to think he can't give better, long term driven direction to Smackdown and Raw.

His career was booked by McMahon though and he's proven with NXT and these tournaments that's he differs from Vince in many ways.

I'm very cautiously optimistic that he'll start treating the main roster and their shows like they actually mean something again. Keyword is "cautiously".

I feel more weary than optimistic as things stand now, though.

He's obviously had a lot of input into his own career. NXT is a different animal. It is a one-hour show that doesn't air on television and was his attempt to get over with smarks. Is it making a profit yet? I'm still not entirely sure it wasn't a giant vanity project.

When you give Triple H five hours of cable television a week; television where he is canonically an "ass-kicker," I'm not so sure he books it with long-term vision and to appease the greasy audience at Full Sail. Triple H is a "student of the game" and loves professional wrestling, but he also spews a lot of shit about the WWE style being the best and has proven to be a giant hypocrite philosophically. Is that just to tow company line? Maybe. But I wouldn't bet the farm that things automatically get better with Triple H in charge. "Savior of Pro-Wrestling" is a gimmick he is working.

Remember when The Summer of Punk featured Triple H going over Punk and it seguing into a Triple H feud with Kevin Nash. Yeah...

It's hard to argue, he may have tons of heat, but I look more forward to NXT weekly than any other show Vince has control of....Even 205 Live has had a distinct difference since he took over....
