after the Mae Young angle, i think he had a job for life.

I did love his retirement speech angle. one of the rare moments in the last 20 years i was completely swerved

really don't care who gets put in as long as they give a good speech. It's not like it matters anyways. Henry should have some good stories to share.

Everybody is gonna get their wig split in the Hall of Pain and the Hall of Fame.

Well deserved. Godfather inducts? D'lo Brown?

Seriously should be Cena thst inducts him, then he comes out and slams him, then says "naw, I'm really retired, I just thought y'all would enjoy dat."

The Hall of Pain was cool. Everything else was between 'garbage' and 'barely passable'. Congratulations, though. Seems like a super nice guy.

Hey, if Mick Foley could get that win (with the help of special ref CM Punk) over Chris Jericho at his Hall of Fame induction, I could totally see this being a thing that happens. Or even at least teasing it again, just to set him back down and go "Ah! Gotcha!"

Rumor going around the net hints the reason why Henry got the nod was due to Bam Bam Bigelow's family unable to reach a financial deal with the WWE in terms of royalties and image rights for this year's class.

Bigelow was the only one from the original list of rumored names to not be inducted while Henry, Jarrett, and Hillbilly Jim were late additions for this year's class.

I used to work with Bam Bam's niece. Maybe I can talk to her about it.

Mark Henry totally deserves to be in the HOF. He surpassed one of the worst angles ever, was apart of a legendary stable, and totally turned around his career and had an amazing Heavyweight Championship run. I look forward to his speech more than anyone. I'd say Ron Simmons will induct him but he's not the most eloquent speaker so I really don't know who would be best, maybe Michael Hayes.

But with henry he was long term because they siged himto a stupid 10yr deal fresh out of the olympics.

He finally started getting his together a decade later and even then didnt get good for 14 years into his run.

He's literally one of the most overpaid wrestlers of all time.

Evil Vito
03-20-2018, 12:46 PM
I don't disagree. But he still put his time in and was well-liked. That's basically all you need to do to round out a HOF class from WWE's standpoint.

Evil Vito

There are a shitload of people currently on TV every week who don't feel like HOFers in the traditional sense but I can pretty much guarantee most of them will be going in eventually.

Nope. 1980. Koko did his thing, and Frankie was pretty over, but still felt like he was kinda... there. Always felt like a poor man's JYD.

For me the Hall of Pain was a brilliant angle and his run on Smackdown on top was really great. Probably the best surprise title run ever for my money. For the rest of it, sure he went through tons of garbage stories but he also endured and was a positive person in the locker room. He's a HOFer in WWE standards for sure.

I was going to come up with a list of reasons why Mark Henry should not belong in a Hall of Fame until I remembered this quote.

I give props to his fake retirement speech though. Probably the only great thing I can remember from my Mark Henry memories bank.

I had a whole wall of text, but honestly, I know you know better than that. I will, however, still question your point of "being profitable" equating to "HoF worthy".

For all your Andres and Dustys and Horsemen, you have people in the Hall that are kinda debatable. I think Koko is a "meh" tier Hall of Famer much like HHH will be a "meh" tier future Hall of Famer (let's be serious; only way he doesn't get in is if he goes full Benoit), as I've made my feelings well known about Hunter's spectacularly mediocre in-ring career.

Mark Henry, much like Big Show, is an era where booking was a thing, would have been HUGE. Once he entered that feud with Randy Orton, he showed that he could do what needs to be done in the ring. And he's always been fine on the mic. Even before the Cena retirement thing that gets all the attention, he had the talent.

You've gotta induct some more recent guys to make it look like wrestling hasn't just gone to complete shit. With that in mind, few are a better fit than Mark Henry.

You didn't care for his 2011 Hall of Pain run?

I've grown to like Mark, and I'm glad he's going in, but the fact that you can identify the good shit by year is kind of contrary to the point you are trying to make? "Remember that one time..."

Another addition to the hall of fame that makes you question it's credibility.

#1-norm-fan
04-06-2018, 10:36 AM
I don't think most people question its credibility. They know it isn't credible and only exists for faux prestige/an excuse to get mainstream attention from the celebrity inductees.
