For me, Almas vs Gargano had more emotion in it despite having a shorter background story. This one had a lot of grit and a hell of a story, but the allure of Gargano maybe winning the title and having four thousand near falls edges it ahead for me, but calling either one the best is fair. Not really a wrong answer.

Remember how I said I never liked it when they do unsanctioned matches? I change my mind..... this match really played it up. From the ref wearing different shirt, to all the none rope breaks and continual strikes/stomps in the corner or other places where the ref would normally break it up.....

Was very good.

Gotta say they really sold me on the fact that these two guys hated each other. I don't remember a "grudge match" where I felt that the beef was genuine.....

Caught up on the first half of the show I missed earlier and pretty cool way to start off the show with a concert spliced with NXT footage showcasing the stuff for tonight.

Dream's gear for the N.A. Ladder match looked great. :lol: at the Lars & Donkey Kong references during the match. Legit thought for a second Dream was going to jump from the ladder to grab the belt but instead gave an amazing elbow drop to Lars. :eek: at EC3 getting squashed twice with the ladder by Killian. :lol: at Lars & Killian ragdolling Ricochet. OMG at the ladder breaking spots on the outside. Holy shit at the bump Ricochet took at the end of the match. Ladder match was really fantastic and brutal.

First thought on the Women's match was the live vocals for Moon's theme were bad and feeling bad for them having to follow the Ladder match. Overall it was a way better match than the one they had in Philly. Shame Moon's reign as Women's champ was a big bust and arguably the worst since NXT started because of how poorly it was handled.

Saw everything from the Dusty Tourney finals match I missed earlier and Strong's heel turn was still the best moment of the match.

first nxt show I watched in its entirety.

It gets an 'A' namely because the crowd left very entertained and Gargano and Ciampa delivered ten-fold. Also loved the way the women's match was worked- the fact that Einstein Droford is hating on it so much reaffirms my liking of it.

My biggest gripe is the multi-person matches. Not the effort or performances because all involed worked hard and the crowd loved it. But as a personal thing it's super fucking hokey. I like tag matches and I like single matches. Once you get to 3-ways it's just dumb and everything seems extra fake.

Yes, I know the ladder match is being praised for being EXTREEEEEEEEME and it was, but I feel like half the match was people blatantly trying to get into position. There was a spot with Dane and Sullvian where I think it was Sullivan slamming Dane off the ladder (coulda been vice versa) where there was no struggle. It was literally "HEY DUDE SLAM ME PLZ"-- one of many spots just like that. I know wrestling is fake but it's at its best when it feels like an actual fight.

In saying that, I love Ricochet.

I didn't really like the women's match at the time and I still think it has issues now (Ember's character is awful and for an MMA fighter, Shaynas submissions do not look good, both things that can be worked on) but I think a lot of it was the position on the card. Think it would have landed a lot better if it opened the show rather than following the spot fest. The tag match had enough energy and bodies in to sufficiently follow it.

I liked "fuck you ciampa" but since there's so many other chants it loses all meaning. Kind of like high spots. Once someone goes through a flaming barbed wire table - kicks out at two - then gets thrown through a plate glass window - kicks out at one - then loses via small package it's kind of dumb.

Once you hear "THIS IS AWESOME" "JOHNNY WRESTLING" "HOLY SHIT" 850 times, "fuck you ciampa" just sounds like just another time the crowd is trying to get themselves over. When really, considering the fact Ciampa is over in the "smark" community, it's really something that he's getting actual heat.

first nxt show I watched in its entirety.

It gets an 'A' namely because the crowd left very entertained and Gargano and Ciampa delivered ten-fold. Also loved the way the women's match was worked- the fact that Einstein Droford is hating on it so much reaffirms my liking of it.

My biggest gripe is the multi-person matches. Not the effort or performances because all involed worked hard and the crowd loved it. But as a personal thing it's super fucking hokey. I like tag matches and I like single matches. Once you get to 3-ways it's just dumb and everything seems extra fake.

Yes, I know the ladder match is being praised for being EXTREEEEEEEEME and it was, but I feel like half the match was people blatantly trying to get into position. There was a spot with Dane and Sullvian where I think it was Sullivan slamming Dane off the ladder (coulda been vice versa) where there was no struggle. It was literally "HEY DUDE SLAM ME PLZ"-- one of many spots just like that. I know wrestling is fake but it's at its best when it feels like an actual fight.

In saying that, I love Ricochet.

Thinking about giving this a watch, but I'm a bit confused as to why they're bringing in a second singles belt. I'm not even trying to be the massive snarky cynic I am, but what is the actual point? It feels like the champion has now beaten the entire division, and that the contenders for the belt are from the exact same pool that will be challenging for the NXT Title itself. I don't see why they didn't just make this an NXT Money in the Bank match or something.

Absolutely agree with you about the multi-man matches. There is a time and a place for them, but it's a lot rarer than they do. It's become a trope that they just throw everyone into the ring without any sort of ladder of contention, and it doesn't actually make sense. Like, looking at WrestleMania, why wasn't Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor on Raw to decide the #1 Contender for the IC Championship? Why does Finn lose and still get a title shot? It seems so silly. On Smackers you've got Randy Orton as US Champion with Jinder, Roode and Rusev all hovering around, but why haven't they had a series of matches to decide who actually gets the title shot?

On the issue of belts, I'm kind of confused as to why the IC and US Titles are even still around. Again, they're sort of this trope that the WWE have kayfabed themselves into. What are you actually the champion of? The United States? Come on. If SmackDown is a "territory" then the WWE Title is permanently stationed there. AJ Styles went from being the US Champion to being the WWE Champion in a matter of matches. It's just a bit silly. It's nothing new, but I sometimes wonder what potential new fans must think when they turn on the TV and everyone is a fucking champion, haha. And what do those belts actually add to the feuds? Who is actually better off because they win that belt? Dolph literally threw it on the ground because it doesn't matter. It might actually be more special if Randy Orton and Bobby Roode were actually feuding over something more personal. Maybe it actually looks better if they were added to the card because they themselves are important enough to justify fighting there, as opposed to "Oh yeah, there is also this belt and they are fighting over it with two other guys."

I actually don't mind the three team thing for the SmackDown Tag Titles, because it kind of fits the gimmick of Harper & Rowan that they just keep attacking the babyface teams and have interjected themselves in the rivalry, and The Usos are just like "Fuck it -- we'll fight everyone." It's also got a nostalgic vibe to the old Edge & Christian/Hardys/Dudleys thing. At least, I think they're going for that a little.

I'm not a fan of the cruiserweight division thing, but at least I can tell you what the Cruiserweight Champion is champion of -- a division where the weight limit is 205lbs. That makes sense. Philosophically, I don't like the roster split and having the show-exclusive champions, because I don't think you're really fooling anyone. Like, why couldn't Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax just be having a match because Alexa is a cunt and Nia wants to beat her up? It actually leads to potential match-ups in the mind stemming from Mania ("Ooh! I want to see her go after the winner of the Women's Title match!"). What they do with the different belts is basically put up barriers that say "You can't see this match." It's actually really weird and backwards. And who is the best women's wrestler in the world? While you've got two belts, you don't have a definitive answer to that question, and not in a good "Ooh, we get to find out."

Had more to do with two things. The first, is no matter how heated the rivalry was, they were still like brothers less than a year ago, so it's not gonna be that easy for a stand up guy like Johnny Gargano to go that route despite all that's happened.

Secondly, as the commentators said, it was a throwback to their CWC match. Ciampa had the opportunity to use a weapon in that match but refused.

The ladder match should be given five stars from Meltzer. The gargano match should be six stars. It had everything. Emotion, passion, hatred towards Ciampa from the fans, the doubt of Gargano with getting sucked back into Ciampa's mind games, the fuck you chants. The asshole chants. The pop for Gargano coming out to the ring and the pop on his win with Ciampa tapping out. This had everything a five star match should be. But it went over the top with the dangerous spots, the referee wearing all black to signify it not being sanctioned. If you do not think it should be a six star match, that's fine. To say it is not a five star match is an absolute crime. You are not getting a better match with this type of storytelling for the rest of the year. This was the best thing that WWE has done in the past 5 years for any show, NXT included.
