View Full Version : Hogan-Austin-Rocky-Cena........Rousey?

Given Rousey’s age, star power, and what most would agree was an extremely impressive debut at WrestleMania, do you think it’s possible for Rousey to become the face of the WWE in the not so distant future? We’ve already seen the WWE’s commitment to the Woman’s revolution and how the women are breaking new ground (first royal rumble, etc).

Can Rousey bring in new fans to the WWE?

Um, not in droves, just because the WWE won't draw because it's ridiculous and the "branding" of them is really weird. But she can be successful and have a great run there.

I’ll be honest. Even though I’ve been a fan of the WWE for quite some time, even a man of my stature was shocked by the solid reception that Rousey received at Wrestlemania. She looked quite good in the ring.

She did, Luigi. Thanks for your honesty.

Heyman? What are you talking about?

Anyways, Roussey needs to get way more conformable on promos before I can say either way

I'm slightly worried that the company are marks for her and were also impressed and will put her and Charlotte at the end of a 7-hour show next year, and that the crowd will be fatigued and see through the relatively brilliant but limited game of each woman and shit on their match too.

If Charlotte vs. Rousey headlines Mania next year, there will be 8 years experience between the two girls, making it the Mania main event with the least amount of experience ever. Angle and Brock had more between them.

Pfff, she has a vagina. Can't be a face of anything other than a tampon brand.

I haven’t Smackdown in years, let alone any segments, but what do people on here think about Rusev? From what I hear, Rusev has been receiving great face pops on Smackdown. I’m not sure if Rusev is actually that over, or if the fans simply enjoy making a mockery by chanting Rusev Day, but I wonder if a well built Rusev could ever be accepted as the top male face? As others have pointed out, Reigns isn’t exactly connecting as the top guy.....but who else is there besides Reigns? Strowman isn’t anywhere near ready, while Daniel Bryan will have to prove that he can hang healthwise for an extended period of time.....before the WWE even considers making him a top guy again. Cesaro has already been pissed away unfortunately. So what about Rusev?

This language is horribly offensive and should be deleted by the moderators immediately.

Maybe she can shadow box her way into the kitchen and make me a sandwich.

It’s mystifying to me as well. A few posters on here have said this to me as well. Do I really sound like Paul Heyman? My voice actually sounds more like Bret Hart in real life. Perhaps I’m overly verbose on here and so people think I come across like Heyman? Who knows....who cares. Perhaps it’s an inside joke that I’m not aware of. Some kind of “newbie hazing?”

I really hope that post is a joke. I think I’m going to be sick.
Your post is a direct slap in the face to all of the women who have worked so hard to take Women’s Wrestling to new heights.

Wrong. He's been ready for quite a while now.

I turned the corner big-time on Rusev. I thought the foreign heel thing was out-dated, but I came around about WrestleMania. He's big for today's standards, but is actually small enough to be appropriately sympathetic with the super heavyweights. I think some audiences genuinely "get him" while others are just being ironic.

I've said for quite a while that if they dial back the foreign shtick and play him up as a more gritty dude and stick closer to the reality of who he is as a person (lives in Nashville, Tennessee, etc.), and he just so happens to have a hot American wife, he could be such a great babyface. I've compared him to Steve Austin -- not really in any sense other than I don't think you'd have been able to have called Stone Cold coming, even if you liked Stunning Steve, but somehow the charisma, the skill and the grittiness in the right time and right place got over.

Wrong. He's been ready for quite a while now.

I don’t think he is unfortunately.

The “Brains Strowman” promo came across as really awkward to me, as did his segment with Curt Hawkins. Again, given my experience level as a fan, I’m usually correct when it comes to these things. If I am proven wrong however, I will happily admit as such. As of right now though, Braun would flop as the top face. After a honeymoon period with the fans for ‘x’ amount of time, those cheers would turn into jeers. With fans nowadays, the powers that be need to be aware of the fact that fans might be cheering a guy not because they genuinely like someone, but rather, because they are cheering a certain guy to say ‘F U’ to the machine for endorsing another guy. This might be the case as far as the fans relationship with Strowman and Reigns go. Remember how a few years back at the Royal Rumble, the fans cheered Roman Reigns when it came down to him and Batista? Since the fans didn’t want to see Batista win?

The above is pretty much spot on. People cheer Braun because he is not Roman. If he were pushed as Roman, he would be Roman. Except he is quite a bit worse. I mean, I haven't been a fan as long as Luigi, but even I can see that much.

Same here. She has the swagger, but hasn't learned or is not comfortable expressing it through the microphone yet. I have no doubt that she will easily grasp the in-ring portion due to her extreme athleticism, but its the promo she really needs to work on to be seen as that "next big star" more than a "1-year flash in the pan"

Going to say no. For her to be in Hogan or Austin tier territory, she would need to be the type you can build a company around and don't see it happening. She has the possibility of being their biggest ever female star but right now she is more of a "special attraction" type than mega star type.

Main reason is she hasn't dealt with the attrition of WWE's terrible booking and WWE needs big fundamental changes made so a woman can become a legit "face" of the company.

For anyone to become a star. She could do it if this were pro-wrestling, but it's sports entertainment, so she can be as big as a sports entertainment cog can get. One advantage she has is that the women are the big PR push right now, so I think she will be the main event next year. In addition to that, she's already a star bigger than the WWE. If she left tomorrow, her star would be bigger than it is there. This is as close as you're going to get to The Rock coming back. Because she wants to be there and Vince won't lose her by pushing her, he might actually push her. The ceiling is in how high that actually can be.

It's possible if the WWE markets it correctly. Right now talking wise shes shaky at best both in and out of character interviews.

WWE needs to let her be herself and tell her to be careful what she can and can't say so that she doesn't put a negative light on her brand or the WWE brand.

After that she should be fine.

Maybe she needs to shadow John Cena or Triple H in interviews and stuff for a week or two.

As someone who has been a long time fan, Braun was clearly paying Homage to the greatest wrestler in the history of ECW.

I don't know if she really needs to do anything over-the-top in the interview department. She's a star in the ring and for the big fights. Run with that.
