View Full Version : The Sledgehammer is awful in wrestling

I can't think of a single sledgehammer spot that looked good or was exciting.

One of the worst ideas in wrestling.

Yeah. Realistically, if you wanted to hurt someone, you'd swing for the fences with it.

Obviously, they can't do that, so in turn, everyone uses it looks like a fucking idiot who can't grasp the simple concept of swinging a sledgehammer.

I want a Steph and HHH home improvement show where HHH is starting to tear down his kitchen to open up the floor plan, swings the hammer with his hand on the head, and promptly screams in agony

I always wanted to see a skit where Triple H was doing some major renovation work and tried to knock down a wall by smashing a sledgehammer hand-first into a wall with painful and hilarious consequences.

With Hacksaw Jim Duggan popping in to supply 2x4's.

After HHH tries unsuccessfully to break the wall, you could have the Shockmaster burst through it.

This show writes itself.

Tell me about it I think in all the time we've seen him Triple H's only swung that hammer right once and that was against Taker ( of course it had a rubber head which I don't understand why they don't just make all his hammers with rubber heads)

Mine makes them monetize his pain.

I remember in their HIAC match he was going to swing it in a way that would kill taker.

I can think of one, and it was when HHH tried to hit Batista with it, Batista stopped it, took it away, and broke it in half like a toothpick.

Granted it wasn't a typical spot of hitting somebody with it, but it was an exciting and cool spot.

Think he swung it into HBK's back after their summerslam 2002 match. Was almost certainly a fake though.

Most weapons look silly now anyway. Feeding backs into chairshots looks daft too. Probably just should stay clear of weapons nowadays

Yeah they should just stick to weapons that can be used safely yet realistically ie brass knucks

I'm a fan of kendo sticks. They sound awesome, leave great marks that are visible, and aren't really injury risky.

Nothing silly about NJPW tables. Someone is going to die, one of these day,

They should introduce anvils and drop them on unsuspecting wrestlers.

Didn't Triple H swing it at taker's head while he was lying down at WrestleMania XXVIII in Hell in a Cell? Can't find video of it but that was my personal favorite

Trips nearly sledgehammers Vince a fresh moustache in that gif. If only he had swung faster and sooner.

Then it explodes, because as we all know a canvas sheet with a projection being beamed onto it is prone to doing that. :wtf:

Triple H had a great closing line of dialogue in a promo between him and Sheamus.

Isn't that like an Irishman, bringing a pipe to a sledgehammer fight.

At least when he's burying somebody, they actually know they're being buried.

It was the last RAW before the set was switched for HD broadcasting (1/14/2008).

I didn't say it did. I was simply stating the reason for those not in the know.

Still looked dumb regardless, so the last big hoorah for the raw set was a sheet being torn and some pyro sparks. :wtf:

I mean, don't get me wrong I'm not defending the decision but every time a new set has been to be brought to one of the brands they've done some asinine stunt to destroy the previous one.

The only thing I can honestly think of that makes any sense whatsoever is maybe it somehow gave them a time saving head start on demolishing the rest of it? I honestly don't know.

Also, just re-watched the 2008 Rumble PPV (because #REASONS), and at the end of the opening intro they show Trips throwing a sledgehammer violently through one of 3 blue plate glass panels.

I would say that the roll of silver dollars/half dollars/quarters should make a comeback... they add the visual flair and the sound jingling change... but I can see some dumbasses trying to jump the rail to grab the free money and getting tossed out/arrested over what equates to bus faire.

As for the "sheet tearing = explosion", the gist was that it was supposed to be a giant television screen (for the millions watching at home), not just a projector and monitor (for the thousands in attendance).

Give tham all AK-47's so they can use the butts of those to hit eachother in abdomens.

Hell, why not F-16 so they can fuck the opponents' cars up and laugh at them like "haha, you're gonna have to catch a bus now, you big loser".

Eventually we're going to get to the point where characters are killed off only to return as zombies or demon spawn.

Then he should've thrown it through the main tron and not the mini-tron.

Use metal slugs. The moment the first person found out it wasn't real change and spread the word, I bet it would nip that problem in the bud real quick.

I thought that, and was about to suggest slugs would be a deterrent like you mentioned. However, it should also be noted that we live in an era where we need to tell people not to eat laundry detergent. I think people would keep going for the shiny "in case it's real money this time" and potentially fuck up a televised angle, so I dropped any doubtful benefit I would have given originally given.
