Whatever tier list some dude puts together is not some safe bet that a certain match-up will end a certain way. Tier lists are heavily predicated on player being equal skill so the only possibly variables are the designs of the characters. And segmenting tiers with so many levels is elitist posturing; there's no way to quantify how Toon Link is above Link by a tiny degree. Tiers should have four levels; Garbage, Balanced, Strong, Broken.

Nintendo announced today that Isabelle from Animal Crossing is joining the roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Ridley being "too big" was a meme and Daisy support was a meme. A smaller meme but it was there with a bunch of people spamming comments and stuff on Nintendo things with "Daisy 4 Smash" etc. They both got in. Ridley's reveal even referenced the meme.

I think it's just an excuse. Either he's not popular among the dev team (or with Miyamoto) or there is some internal rule about not using him outside of sport spinoffs.

He's got a bigger fanbase than Daisy, meme or not, he's got more move and gameplay potential than Daisy and he's definitely more relevant than Daisy.

It's great Daisy and Ridley are in I'm just hugely disappointed Waluigi isn't in as a playable character. It seems so obvious to add him.

I know. I was exaggerating. Adding Waluigi wouldn't be "adding every Mario character" as Big Vic implied. I felt they were exaggerating so I responded the same way. No ill will intended to Big Vic.

FE has 7 characters as of right now. That wouldn't be a problem if there was more variety. Marth, Roy and Lucina are the same character, aren't they? Just tweaked values and stuff? Why didn't they bring in someone with a hammer or something? My knowledge is limited to FE Heros so I can't name names.

Mario does have the most characters, I think, but that's the flagship series so it makes sense. Waluigi would just round that out perfectly. He's the missing piece, I'd say.

Some would say he's an Assist Trophy so he can't be playable but the moon from Zelda is an AT and is a background character in the Termina stage.
It's not quite the same but will they have two moons if the moon AT is used on Termina or will that AT be altered or not appear on that stage? They probably wont change anything.

Whatever they do with the moon, they can do similar with the Waluigi AT when/if they make him playable.

Nintendo pretty much still views him as nothing more than just a joke character and have debunked or ignored anything that could make him unique over the years (ex. Wario's bro idea).

You're putting way too much thought behind a game that added Game & Watch, Pichu, and Dog Hunt Dog. None of them I'd call iconic, all of them basically joke/stunt additions. Not to mention characters have made their name beyond their own origins as 'Smash' characters. Captain Falcon, Roy, and Lucas are almost entirely known now as Smash characters.

Not sure about Pichu but all those characters listed had their own game or were the main characters for a game/series which isn't the case with Waluigi.

At least with Ridley, Sakurai gave an excuse even if it turned out to be flimsy in the end for his omission until now. With Geno, speculation usually revolves around Square owning the rights to the character for his omission.

With Waluigi, Nintendo can't even be bothered to make any excuse for his omission. They currently see him as nothing more than Assist Trophy worthy for the Smash series.

I have a theory. There are 70 characters revealed so far (PKMN Trainer is counted as 3 on the site but they are one slot so they are one character) and Smashdown, so far, could be played 17.5 times with 70 characters and 4 players.
It would be weird if the mode ended with a couple of characters left over, so I think we'll get two more characters, at least, making Smashdown use all the characters available regardless wether it's 2, 3 or 4 players.

If that happens and we get DLC, which we will, I think the number of DLC characters would need to allow for everyone to be used in Smashdown.

It's flimsy, I'll admit, but I'm sticking with it.

Banjo & Kazooie are owned by Microsoft but there was that tweet during the Smash Ballot where some big guy at Xbox said he'd love to have B&K in Smash. So I can see that.

Rayman was a trophy in Smash Wii U and there was Peach Rabbid Sticker shown in the Smash Direct. I'd say he's also in with a good chance.

Spyro seems unlikely, even as a wildcard.

The thing that concerns me is B&K and Rayman are big in the west, or mainly Europe for Rayman. In Japan, are they anywhere close to being as popular? I feel a lack of Japanese popularity could reduce a characters chances.

Well K Rool is very specific to Donkey Kong Country which was a western platformer. And surely at this point Sakurai considers Smash a global game where not every character needs to be big in every territory. America and Europe know Banjo very well so that should be enough.

Dixie Kong would make a cool Echo Fighter for Diddy. Lot you can do with her ponytail helicopter thing.

In terms of kinda-funny troll marketing toward an obviously superior company, maybe. But I have no idea what got into the water months ago when Crash Remastered came out and everybody's pretending he was some critical thing back then. Nostalgia is often reserved for cool old things rather than 'any' old thing. It was very bizarre. I distinctly remember nobody, absolutely nobody, impressed with Crash Bandicoot. The Blockbuster demo kiosk had dust on the controller (it was next to the N64 demo station). Crash is trash, Nights did the linear movement thing way better in that era.

Smash get. World of Light is surprisingly fun and difficult. Which makes me like it a lot. Classic mode is what it is and hey, at the end you get to unlock a random fighter. I dig. I really do dig. So yeah, call this a win for Nintendo.
