Probably goes back to him beating up that little person after they told him not to.

Something had to have happened very recently in order for him to get fired.
Considering some of the stuff done on tv in recent months, couldn't have just been the midget incident or else Vince would have pulled the plug on his push and his job a lot sooner.
Supposedly him and Enzo were the two most despised people backstage for various reasons but even that didn't really affect their status on tv.

According to the Observer, Cass did something that warranted a new punishment coming his way prior to Vince deciding to fire him instead.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I knew more punishment was coming, didn't know he was being released. <a href="https://t.co/SCAz8AVEUf">https://t.co/SCAz8AVEUf</a></p>— Dave Meltzer (@davemeltzerWON) <a href="https://twitter.com/davemeltzerWON/status/1009155678743621632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 19, 2018</a></blockquote>

He wasn't suppose to beat up the little person portraying "mini Daniel Bryan".
He went too far in it. He was supposed to just do the big boot and pose. He went too far in it and it wasn't what Vince wanted.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was something as silly as him complaining about booking that was 'the final straw'.
Meltz has hinted before Cass complains Daniel Bryan is a bad worker a lot.

I mean Daniel Bryan got over after losing about the same. Impressive since he's a midget.
But I get what you're saying. Just think they need to find more Brody/Hansen types and less clunky gyno-tit types or wooden bodybuilders.
Ryback could have Braun's spot if he was still there.

He could work fine. It's not like he was the kind of guy you needed to go out there and work 30 minute mat classics for the internet to cream themselves over. He was an asskicker and it worked until just after the Hell in a Cell match with Punk when they forgot why he got over.

Exactly this. WWE had gold with THE RYBACK but they had to let that no talent, straight edge pussy, CM Punk go over. Now they let a decent rassler go bc he beat up a midget? Thats funny. Everything is too PC nowdays. They'd probably fire JBL now days bc he made anti immigrant videos and now everyone hss gone soft. Based on some rumors going around the net, seems his firing might have been due to his bad rep of being very tough/stubborn to work with and WWE simply not liking his work output as a singles star.
They gave him the Bryan feud thinking Bryan's rep of being great working with anyone would provide the motivation and change needed for Cass. Instead the opposite happen and got pissed off to the point it was easier to just get rid of him.

Also reported WWE was impressed with his performance at MitB but wasn't enough to outweigh all the problems they had with him.

I do feel kinda bad for the guy. Vince and co. are always repeatedly saying in interviews how guys these days are afraid to take risks etc, so someone goes against the bosses orders and it lands him in the dog house. I guess there's a difference between trying your own thing and disobeying a direct order, but still.

That whole midget beatdown thing wasn't the worst thing in the world. Sounds like nobody high up is keen on Cass to begin with.
So this.

He does look pretty lazy (see gyro tits (dale)) and his attitude problems. But for one off appearances these guys will sell

Apparently another cause for his firing was him destroying a bathroom door in a bus because he thought he was getting pranked.
Multiple sources tell us one of the incidents which rubbed people the wrong way happened in private, however, on the WWE bus chauffeuring talent.
We’re told the bathroom lock was apparently broken, but Cass didn’t realize it and thought he was being pranked. After being stuck inside for too long, a claustrophobic/angry Cass broke down the door. This meant people had to embarrassingly use the bathroom afterward with no door.
This, obviously, made some of the riders on the bus unhappy. It’s worth noting that some understood his frustration though and weren’t as angry as others.
Both of these incidents in such short time — coupled with 1-2 minor unverified incidents that we’re working to confirm with additional sources — seem to have been the final straw.

On an edition of Smackdown prior to his PPV match against Daniel Bryan.
The big boot was in the script but him beating the ever-loving shit out of him afterwards was not. He's asked permission to do that but had been told not to and did it anyway.
That and apparently attitude problems backstage helped contribute to his release without a "best of luck" line in the press release about it.

All this is compounded by the fact that he sucks. Sin Cara gets into fights with talent, some of them even top stars, but he still has a job because he isn't absolutely atrocious on every level.

According to Simon Dean, Big Cass' resentment in the locker room also extended to former wrestlers since on at least one occasion, Cass forced someone out of the locker room who was just visiting old pals.
As noted, former WWE wrestler Mike Bucci, a.k.a. Simon Dean, shared a story on Facebook about Cass once "big-dogging" a former co-worker who was backstage, and forced him out of the locker room.
"A former wrestling co-worker of mine from back in my WWE days was backstage at a show about a year ago and Big Cass big dogged him and asked him to leave the locker room," Bucci wrote on Facebook. "If their paths cross again on the indys, I hope I'm there to see my old buddy return the favor."

I was a fan of Maven, so much so that I remember even watching an episode of The Surreal Life cause he was on it.
That dude dropped the ball getting into pain meds WAY too early in his career. He could have been another Curt Hawkins or Funaki with a decade long career if he kept himself under control.
Unlike Cass, WWE is tends to keep jobbers around as long as they (WWE) are making money and the person isnt a Casshole or a druggie.

More details from the Observer regarding Cass' release. Turns out Cass pissed off Vince not once but twice within a short period of time and got someone else fired as collateral damage.
There was also another incident where Cass blew off a rehearsal for a promo that WWE producer Kevin Dunn asked for, and on the live version, Cass apparently went too long. Meltzer says that Vince McMahon reportedly hated the promo (which promo wasn’t specified) and even fired the promo writer a few weeks ago ...
There were also reportedly negative feelings about him before his knee injury last year, stemming from his feud against the Big Show. WWE officials apparently felt that the feud did not go well and much of the blame was put on Cass. Meltzer says that there was also some negativity towards his work during his feud with Bryan, but that was not a reason for him to be fired in the way that he was.
Cass also reportedly “had enemies,” Meltzer says, stemming from an argument he had with Sami Zayn where he strongly defended Donald Trump’s treatment of Muslims, which “ruffled many people’s feathers.” However, being that the McMahons are major donors to Donald Trump and Linda McMahon has a job in Trump’s cabinet, that was definitely not the reason that McMahon fired him.

Rumor going around the net implies the real reason for Cass' firing was due to a recent incident involving him and Carmella that got a bit physical and required several wrestlers to step in to break it up.
Only problem is the source of the rumor is a lot worse than Sports Illustrated when it comes to reliability.
Might be the same source currently pushing the rumor that most of the women's locker room despises Alexa Bliss over claims she's sleeping with someone in Creative or management to get big pushes.

According to the Observer, chances of Enzo and Cass reuniting in the indies is pretty much slim to none since their longtime friendship is legit over.
Based on what Enzo mentioned in the Steve Austin podcast show, seems the cause of it was a promo or comments Enzo ridiculing Cass' injury. Ended up pissing off Cass enough to break the friendship and in return, Enzo hates Cass for not coming to his side during the rape allegations and his firing from the WWE.
