View Full Version : Watching NJP Dominion last 2 matches
I just finished the Jericho vs Naito match. I liked the match. It was ok. I liked all the heel shit Jericho did after the match. But i'm just gonna say. Jericho was really out of shape in that match. I know he's getting older, but i've seen Flair be same age and be in great shape. It was not a good look and it bothered me.
Main Even next.
Does Omega actually speak Japanese or is this a voice over in this promo?

LOL he speaks Japanese pretty well.
Okada seems young enough to still be ruined by WWE.
Did the Jap that asks " Are you ready? What have you lost? ".. Did Okada murder that guy? Is that what this is?

He is the greatest IWGP Champ ever I highly doubt he'd leave his post for WWE. But yeah he's like 30 and every match is better than the last.

Bullet Club. They broke up after a while. Now they have reformed as the Golden Elite. A play off the Golden Lovers (Kota and Kenny) and the Young Bucks (The Elite). Bullet Club was "everything" as it changed wrestling and started this indy upswing.
A lot of basic stuff so far.
Lot of rest holds the first 3 minutes.
Lot of rest holds the first 3 minutes.
Things picked up after i said this. Great stuff so far.
Love the V-Trigger spot. THese barricades are aids.
I like Okada asking for the kicks lol.
I paused this for a second to point something out.
There are older type camera angles that are being used in this match. Some are older. Some or Boxing type angles. And they work amazing. It makes me wonder if WWE is way over produced when it comes to the camera shots during there programming.

Agreed. The shots they do in NJPW feel like a sports event.
There are some gorgeous wide angles of this match atm that WWE are foolish not to go to.
I love Okada telling the ref to check Omega's ribs lol.. thinly veiled heel move.
Botched camera work when Omega was playing possum there. Didnt see it all.

Lot of rest holds the first 3 minutes.
Its not a rest hold if its in the 1st 3 min. Theres a huge difference from grabbing a hold to catch your breath and working holds. There even a difference in doing it 30 min in the lul the crowd for a comeback....grr
Heck of a first fall. That was good.

You're picking apples from oranges here. They were working holds for the first 3 to 5 minutes of the match.
I love Okada's Cobra Clutch because he leverages it on his knee instead of letting the opponent lay back first on the ground. I feel like i havent seen that before.
*Pause *
Quick thoughts. The " You cant escape" by Omega is corny as fuck.
But more importantly ... It's amazing how much better a match looks when the ref is not so involved.
Omega takes the 2nd fall. What a great match!
I love there being a ref named " Red Shoes "
" Gaido ( sp ) is buying time right now! THIS IS BULLSHIT! "
ROFL. Need this guy in WWE right now.

No you just dont know what a rest hold is...
I love that they referenced the Styles Clash as a Styles Clash.

You win. I lose. Good job. :y:

You're kinda going " wrestling elitist " here and its a terrible look.
That was a really amazing match. I made this thread hoping to pick it apart... That was really really good.
Chris Jericho was fat in the match with him and Naito and i dont care what anyone says, that took away from it. Ok match. Good stuff afterwards, but Jericho was out of shape and it annoyed me.
I wont give rankings here. My personal favorites are this. No specific order.
Benoit vs Angle at Royal Rumble
Omega vs Okada
DIY vs The Revival
Stone Cold and HHH vs Benoit and Jericho on RaW.
Those are my personal favorite of all time now.
I know Omega is popular, but man. I love Okada. I think WWE would ruin him though.

Unlike WWE or US wrestling in general, Japan treats it more like a sport there.
Lot more MMA/boxing-like in terms of presentation and no need for NJPW to pay for cheap mainstream coverage since wrestling is respected there by the media. Same for promos being more sports-like with post-match press conferences or to mainly set up new challengers than the way WWE and others do it.

I never claimed to be an expert. Ever at all. For the longest time i've been on this board ( 2004 ), i've never claimed or acted like a expert at professional wrestling.
Thanks for your input though man. I appreciate it a lot Destor.

One thing i noticed. The wider shots are not only great looking, but they protect the wrestlers more if there is a screw up. Would you guys agree?
Listen.
I should have made this more clear.
I'm just now watching these matches for the first time. I'm trying to give a play by play of them as I watch.
(Destor) I'm sorry if i misuse terms like " Rest Hold". I dont claim to be an expert. I just am trying to give my opinion on this forum. I probably misused it. I apologize.
The intention of this thread is to give a running glimpse of what i thought. I'm not a expert but a fan. I never claimed to be more.
Thanks.

Agree and also prevents catching them calling spots which happens way too often in WWE going by the Botchamania series.
WWE's camera choices are good for their style but the amount of cuts and shaking done is beyond ridiculous. Like with Sanity's Smackdown debut yesterday, you'd think someone was playing Whack a Mole on the control panel.

Sanity on smackdown is a bad example to be honest. Just in the matches them selves, WWE has adopted this up close view that exposes a lot and dont look good. THey are looking for emotional expression, but it fails compared to the wide looks they could get if they were smarter like NJP.
The one moment in this Okada vs Omega match that i felt was a total fail, was when Omega reversed a move after playing hurt. The camera zoomed out for it and didnt show the reversal. And we missed the entire thing. No replays. That was bad.
But it can be worked on.
I'm not going to narrow it down, but i'll re quote what i said as it was going.
Botched camera work when Omega was playing possum there. Didnt see it all.
My only issue with the match. The rest was pretty damn good.

I just thought all that camera movement during Sanity's entrance was by design. You know to sell the chaos theme of Sanity.

If that was the plan, came off terribly on tv at least in my opinion. Their NXT entrance was a lot more simpler and effective for a similar feeling.
Their debut on Smackdown just felt over-produced like a lot of things on the main roster.
Forget about Sanity.
A " Shake Cam " is probably one of the most insulting ways you can insult your fans in the history of insulting fans.

Oh yeah it came off terrible and made feel like I had a concussion. They had to plan it because I don't think they could be that bad, and they weren't the rest the night.

They failed so bad. And it was almost a unfailable gimmick. It's literally stunning that they had no clue what to do with Sanity. I have no more words.

Leaving out Nikki cross was the first sign that it was going to be shit. Its not the same without her.
