Don't they usually take stuff you could hang yourself with (belts, shoe laces etc) off you before putting you in the cell?

I'm sure they do but I can only assume that he hung himself with his bed sheets.
That's the only thing I can think of that you can hang yourself with that they let you keep in your cell.

Really sad about this one. Too Cool were great, but I loved Too Much. Gertner said it in the op, and don't think it is much of a stretch, this guy had it. He could do funny, he could do intense, he could do sympathetic face, but like his dad, I think he was best as a heel. Too Much were just so cringey and easy to hate. Definately underrated, although people tend to go overboard when someone dies, I think it's a massive 'what could have been' with Brian Christopher.
It's sad he was so troubled and hope he is at peace now

Seems the reason for the lack of confirmation besides Meltzer was due to the family holding off on giving an official statement. Just needed time for others to see him one last time or pay their respects before making the announcement.
Rest in Peace. One of the most entertaining acts of the Attitude Era.

This sucks, I loved Too Cool loads, I was always more of a Scotty fan but loved their dynamic together. It was at the time I had got back into wrestling so missed their Too Much stuff but they looked a great heel team when I saw some stuff lately.

Man what a rough time he's had over the past decade or so. RIP Brian. I remember enjoying the angle where they wouldn't admit that he was Lawler's son, during the Light Heavyweight era, and JR would always call them out on it. Never cared much or Too Cool, but it was super over.

Maybe the biggest waste of talent that I can remember.
I thought Too Cool was entertaining and they really reached their peak around the year 2000. Too Cool and Rikishi were crazy over.
Thoughts & Positive Vibes to the Lawler clan. I also think Meltzer owes them all a public apology for reporting Brian had passed away hours before he had but he'll just post "he was braindead, it was the same thing" and get off scot-free for shoddy journalism, as always.
Anyways, a shame to hear about, Brian let his demons win in the end.

After his last arrest for DUI I had a feeling this wasn't going to end well. He also got into a fight about a year or so ago against Chase Stevens I believe and got the living shit best out of him. Multiple facial fractures. He's also gotten numerous DUI's , fleeing the cops, not paying a hotel bill in the past year or so.

Meltzer gave more details on his initial reporting afterwards which fits what PWI and WrestleInc mentioned earlier about him having no chance of living and why there was a delay in the official announcement.
Lawler, 46, hung himself in his jail cell at the Hardeman County jail in Tennessee and was rushed to the hospital and put on life support. He was pronounced brain dead earlier this morning.
While a family friend said that the decision was made to pull him from life support and he has passed away, and others have said the same, Randy Hales and Bert Prentice, who are at the hospital, said that he was technically not dead and that the life support had not yet been pulled. Jerry Lawler was flying back from an appearance in Raleigh, NC.
A family friend reported to us that they were waiting for Jerry Lawler to come to the hospital to say goodbye before Christopher's life support was pulled.
Apparently, y'know... plans change.

I don't normally comment on wrestler deaths, but this one...I don't know how to describe it. It's not shock, but it's jarring. When I first started watching, I was weirdly drawn to Brian Christopher. One of my favorite looking spots, as weird as this is going to sound, is him taking the trash can from Kane in the 2001 Royal Rumble. Always liked the guy, but kind of tuned out when all the issues started -- and maybe that's why I'm responding to it -- because it's something that should have been seen coming but wasn't?
I've only learned recently how much potential he was perceived as having circa 1992. From Gertner actually. Having that much potential can lead to expectations in your mind that can never be lived up to.

According to Hardeman County's sheriff, they didn't think Brian Christopher was a suicidal threat at the time of his arrest and jailing which is why no precautions were taken.
According to Doolon, Lawler was being kept alone in a cell due to his “notoriety”, likely a reference to his decades of celebrity in Memphis as a professional wrestler locally as well as with WWE.
WMC-TV reported that corrections officers found Lawler hanging in his cell on Saturday evening, immediately began delivering CPR and had his transported to the hospital. Lawler was taken off life support yesterday at 4:40 PM EST.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, at the request of the District Attorney’s office, has opened an investigation into Lawler’s passing.
Also seems it was Jerry Lawler's podcast co-host who broke the news online of Brian Christopher passing away in the morning before it was made official later in the day after Jerry Lawler's somber visit.

I’m no doctor, but I’m pretty sure the only reason Brian didn’t die in his cell was because he was probably found before he could die

Supposing it wasn't just a straight up suicide, you don't have to be doing fed time in the pen to be killed. Prob'ly a lot easier to do, since it's likely a bit more lax in nearly every way. Also, if it were just some short-term DUI type shit, it would raise the question of why one would off themselves if they were just going to be there for two months.
I thought I posted this. I just read it was county jail and was saying that murder by gang is highly fucking unlikely in goddamn county jail.

Sometimes people are at county as a stop-gap. You got people going to big-boy prison in the same place as folks sleeping off being piss drunk. Sometimes, that overlaps. And again, we don't know what he might have been into. And again, this goes back to the initial supposition that there was more to this than simple suicide.
He could have just been off some meds. Or needed to be on some.
