Meltzer does have a point about how main roster is way more about looks but like a bunch of others times, he has a bad way of delivering his point.

She looks better on Smackdown because of her enhancements and makeup while she was a better wrestler on NXT since the focus was a lot more balanced between skills and looks.

Its also why all the jokes about Vince/WWE only cares about blonde and thin women for champs and big pushes keeps popping up from time to time. Something like the Top 5 longest women's champs by combined days is almost all blonde women when you take out Moolah.

Hilarious though that folks honestly believe that Bischoff and Russo, guys who've legit, both together and apart, each ruined wrestling companies and always seemed in it for themselves, are somehow "credible" or "more credible" than Meltzer.

Bit of a prick thing to say , I agree with whoever said it that he was making a remark on her enhancements. They are jobbers on the main rosters after building up an audience and an act that worked on NXT but then even there they were usually on the loss column.

It’s a shame that he couldn’t have started a conversation on how even though we are in a women’s revolution that we still have women who have an expectation of looking a certain way if they are on the main roster. Also takes me back to the Original Mae Young Classic when people were getting shit for not having the ‘WWE’ look.

But the most important thing is that he didn’t say shit about Billie Kay cos if he did then shit would really hit the fan.

Before the storm I had herd the comment on his show and it did raise my eyebrow because I find her very fit and attractive, but it didn't offend me. I think the anti-Dave community is using this as ammunition for their war against him. If you've herd Dave's latest show he speaks on the topic and deeply apologizes and expresses his regret over saying what he said. I think it's incredibly backwards to single him out when people who work for the company have said many more demeaning and offensive things on social media or interviews. WWE has been fat shaming since Vince Jr. took over. Dave said she wasn't as attractive as she was in NXT when she was a bit lighter. That is a comment that could be made about any performer male or female. For the community to constantly throw "professional journalist" as a slight is a joke. I don't care what anyone thinks about Dave or the sheets. Most people in the business have a bad opinion of Dave because they don't make the cut into the higher echelon of his work, or because they suck. It doesn't matter to me. Peyton is really hot.

I'd have to agree just to keep the value of the word "journalist" alive a little longer. Though a lot of integrity has been destroyed by tabloid reporting and the pap. As for Meltzer lots of his stuff is unverified and asks more questions than it answers. Specious speculation and a bit of dirt raking doesn't really qualify him as a journalist at all. So much bias.

I thought it was obvious when he started out by saying she stood out on NXT and doesn't stand out anymore that he was referring to her implants and how they made her look more like everyone else. Oddly enough if he were a little less of a pussy about it and just came out and said it, he would have avoided this.

While cheating on your fiancé with an alleged Nazi is one thing, sending unsolicited dick pics to random girls he just met in a bar a few hours ago is probably the thing that makes him look less immaculate here.

Why does his friend even need to be defended? Does he think she can't do it on her own or something?

"I dont trust the carny bullshit artists i only trust the guy who gets stories from the carny bullshit artists."

Brilliant.

So you seem to think everyone in the wrestling business is equally as much of a bullshitter as everyone else. I know it adds to the "too cool for school" gimmick. It's not true though. There are guys who are known, verifiable bullshit artists to a compulsive level. Because of that their credibility is insanely low. The guy getting his stories from many different sources within the group and "reporting" on it instantly has more credibility than the known pathological liars of said group. And the fact that Meltzer's biggest detractors in the business seem to be the biggest known bullshitters and his supporters are guys like Cornette who, say what you want about his philosophy or his temper, doesn't have NEARLY the track record of bullshitting as a Prichard or Russo or Bischoff, only adds to that.

And for the record, I don't even care that much for Meltzer. Never subscribed to the Observer. Never really cared about his opinions, even. I'm indifferent toward him. And on top of that, he surely has a habit of showing favoritism toward his friends. So the "Meltzer Sheep" thing just doesn't work. It's just common sense. The bullshitters and the guy who reports what he hears from the group as a whole are not even on the same level of credibility.

But what gets me is all these wrestlers with twitter accounts attacking Meltzer. so childish. I'm surprised the WWE allows them to have twitter accounts. like bro, he apologized, get over it. wtf is calling Meltzer a piece of garbage over twitter going to do?

:y:

This is fucking dumb. You're in a physical business. Your physique is going to be analyzed. He didn't say anything really negative about her from the sounds of that clip, other than she was more attractive in NXT because their act on the main roster has been "WWEized," where the superficial appearance of their women is far more important than talent. See; Bliss, Alexa; Carmella; Royce, Petyon; Kay, Billie.

Bischoff and Russo jumping on this is pretty indicative this is just a witch-hunt on Dave. All these people will gladly work for a company that promotes propaganda for a country that puts women in prison for daring to drive, and then want to act as if calling a spade a spade is egregious.

Fuck this company and fuck the people who support it. Also, fuck Russo and Bischoff.

Jordan

I get a feeling even though Dave is getting a lot of slack right now that this attention will only raise his profile in the long run. His influence on wrestling is so strong and undeniable. Call him a Journalist, critic, historian, dirt sheet writer or whatever you want Meltzer has raised tons of awareness throughout history for indie and Japanese wrestling. For example, All In would not be a thing if he hadn't jokingly challenged Cody and the Bucks to make it happen.

I mean we have the whole Bliss/Nia storyline as well. Also I'd imagine if there was a female critic that had half the following Meltzer did that she would likely comment more than he does on the "attractiveness" of certain superstars, or loss of muscle mass/hotness etc... We all know Jinder looked amazing upon his redebut to WWE, not to say he looks bad now but is it really body shaming if I point out that "he doesn't look as good as he used to"? It's just an observation. And Dave is the Observer.

Bad News Gertner

08-16-2018, 11:24 PM
How many women needed to go to prison for daring to drive so that Peyton Royce can afford her new tits to share with her boyfriend who thinks that rape is funny if you yell "Surprise!" before it? When you're in an internet argument, sometimes you say shit without thinking, but it's mighty presumptuous to project pity on the women in Dave Meltzer's life when your own ducks aren't in a row.

Also, Peyton is not very good at her job. This is not a sexist remark. She is a shitty wrestler and I bet that if she were ugly she would have never had a look. This dog-piling on Dave by people accepting paychecks from this company is miserably low, and it's darkly ironic. No one with genuine progressive beliefs looks at the WWE's post-feminist token attitude towards women and thinks "Man, they are doing a great job." If the employees actually buy into the WWE's "Women's Revolution" PR, then they are fucking marks.

Is it bothering anyone else how obvious it was that Dave was talking about Peyton getting big fake titties? Way too many people are framing this like he was trying to fat-shame Peyton or something. I'm all for women doing whatever they want to their tits, but they shouldn't feel the pressure to do it to themselves, and that pressure does come from WWE. Let's not pretend they are trying to blow apart the patriarchal standards of beauty, haha. In their world, big boobs = good. Yeah, I've been watching OSW Reviews commentaries of the early wrestlmanias and the tag teams definitely stood out during that era.

There was also a really great angle during a feud between Greg Valentine and Ronny Garvin where Garvin lost a career match to Valentine. But instead of going away, Garvin got a job as special guest ring announcer for valentine's match and just ran valentine down, calling him fat and stuff lol. Valentine gets him fired so next week he's a guest interviewer and does the same thing. Week after that, guest commentator. Tons of interesting tidbits , plus they go over all the dirt sheets from the time period they are covering so it's interesting to see what Dave, Wade etc got right and wrong

Garvin was wrestling at the next ppv again so I assume Valentine relented on the career ending match wager so he'd stop getting embarrassed by Garvin. It was fucking brilliant.

Those matches are awesome if you haven't seen them . They beat the ever loving shit out of each other

Why didnt Meltzer just apologize and say he was talking about her tits not her being fat?

agreed. Although it's not his intention, it can be easily critical of a woman's choices with her body which will just dig him deeper into a hole.

He still would have caught shit forever either way but if he had made it about the tits I could see his point of view to a degree. I mean we are in the middle of a women's revolution and have been told the days of barbie dolls with million dollar enhancements are over so this is definitely the opposite of what they preach. Still, it's her body and if she got it for herself more power to her.

Just thank god he didn't say this about Jax lol.

Deadspin article speculating that some of the "outrage" and piling on by WWE wrestlers/employees could have maybe been opportunistically coordinated "from above" since McMahon h8s Meltzer... and WWE wrestlers' social media accounts are pretty curated

like Charlotte was on ESPN taking shots at Meltzer (un-named) yesterday, which is weird

This is, after all, a company that once accused Meltzer of defamation because he misunderstood their use of a pronoun on TV, subpoenaed him in a lawsuit that he was not party to in an effort to get him to give up sources, and is widely believed to have backed a recent revenge lawsuit against a podcaster—a suit that destroyed a decades-long friendship—among other things. Perhaps most ridiculously, Vince McMahon stole Frank Deford’s and his wife’s shoes because Deford’s The National Sports Daily featured critical WWE coverage from Meltzer. A WWE spokesperson did not reply to Deadspin’s request for comment on the Royce/Meltzer dust-up, for what it’s worth.
Vince stealing someone's shoes because he was pissed at Meltzer's writings is one of the funniest things I've ever read about wrestling.

And given the fact that it's the entertainment business, I don't get why they're so rattled by a critic.

Seanny One Ball
08-19-2018, 10:23 AM
Probably because the entertainment industry has an abundance of paid critics who can actually hurt a brand in an attempt to justify their own existence.

Entertainment critics are the very definition of overpaid and superfluous. Anyone getting paid to talk about someone else's work is getting it too easy to act like Dave Meltzer does. He's the not the garnish, not the dish. He's the somellier in a restaurant that doesn't stock wine.

I love a good critic but they lack practical value.

Seanny One Ball
08-19-2018, 10:31 AM
That being said I wouldn't deny anyone their living if they are good enough at it. You don't single handedly drum up interest in your brand by being useless so any critic earning and creating discussion has to be worth their wage.

I am conflicted.

It had that feel to it. But I don't think Vince would even need to click and point. I think that people in the company genuinely believe the company's public line, which is weird and creepy.

Literally all those things that Charlotte said WWE doesn't do are things WWE does, haha.

Dave Meltzer probably has as much star power as any full-timer on the roster. If he came in for an angle or to do a match, it could be #2 or #3 at WrestleMania.

I'm not saying it's a good thing that Vince McMahon challenging his biggest punter to a fight would be a bigger draw than anything produced from their full-time roster, by the way. I'm just saying that it would be.

Dave was originally going to talk explicitly about her enhanced funbags, and it was supposed to lead to an angle in WWE. Not for Wrestlemania, too far off. But penciled in around the all women's PPV.

But, y'know, plans change.
