Smart move by DC

Really is. Capitalize on the attention and buzz this'll create, get a noted, named filmmaker into the studio and hand him the reigns to the movie you originally created to ape the success of the two movies he was behind.

Brilliant really. Here's hoping SS2 is amaze balls.

It's gonna be tough to explain why he likes child groins, but if you're DC, you gotta go for it!

Well, if he's going to improve on the first one by like...…..everything, good move by Warner Bros./DC.

Just, keep Zach Snyder away.

Zack Snyder will get producer credit and his blind fanboys will pretend he was a huge part of the movie and still the lifeblood of the DCEU that he created and singlehandedly destroyed.

He's not that bad. He nailed Wonder Woman. I thought BMvSM was ok. I thought Justice League was ok. Both those movies were held up against Marvel and kind of unfairly judged. They are not great, but they were not terrible.

300 is a great movie and 300: Rise of The Empire is very underrated.

Dawn of the Dead was pretty well done too. Not amazing, but it was respectable.

He didn't have shit to do with Wonder Woman other than helping with the story. It's Patty Jenkins' movie.

BvS was, objectively, a piss poor film with no direction that got its characters completely wrong.

Justice League wasn't very good either. And that was the cleaned up version Whedon delivered. Only the studio execs know what Snyder initially put out.

300 is meh. I never cared for it. Dawn if the Dead is pretty good.

Snyder has a history of mediocrity. His best film is between a remake, and 2 panel for panel adaptations. Everything else he's made has been ok at best and dumpster fire at worst.

And other than Wonder Woman, nothing DC has made since the Dark Knight trilogy stands up to Marvel.

I loved Watchmen. Don't care what anybody says.

But yeah. No more Snyder please.

Watchmen was ok. I've never read the comic but I have been told by those who have that Snyder missed the point.

Ive read the comic dozens of times and I loved Snyders film. He made some changes that were legit improvements and he made some changes that hurt the narrative. The film is good regardless.

Manhattan being the cataclysm instead of a space squid makes the story much more personal and it feels much better. However Having Manhatten's final conversation be with Jupiter instead of Ozzy is a major negative. Its makes the love story between the too far prevalent (while undermining Nights Owl own relationship) while detracting from Ozzy and Manhattans characters and overall arcs.

I think he deserve praise for the one change and criticism for the other. Still really loved the film.

Watchmen was very good. I hadn't and still have not read the graphic novel but I liked it a lot. Who needs superheroes when we're all fucked anyway, nobody is ever really in control.

I’ve only ever heard people moan about that particular change, when I thought it improved the story. Glad to see I’m not alone.

Would have ruined the entire film.

Changing that key cog to the story made it more personal. The original comic book version would've been ludicrous.

Anyone have the ultimate cut or whatever it was called? Black freighter anime and all the delted scenes cut back in? Real good. My fav version of the film (but tbf watchmem is easily my fav comic ever and one of my fav NOVELS ever [and i dont say that lightly.])

I forgot it existed. Always meant to "check it out".

Destor

Youre the right demo for it. Frankly thats always been my biggest issue with adapting Watchmen. Ozzy doesnt work without the Black Freighter and if Ozzy doesnt work then the plot itself doesnt work.

If someone watched the theatrical release and shit on it i absolutely understand. Its an incomplete story. Ultimate cut plays much better. But its lengthy.

It always should have been a limited series imo. Its really geared for long form tv as opposed to being a film.

Still all this accounted for i dont think anyone could have done better with the IP. As far as film adaptations go this was the best anyone was gonna do.

...if only he hadnt done that Manhattan juniper scene...

HBO is doing some sort of Watchmen show, but it isn't based on the comics

Destor
10-10-2018, 09:55 PM
Yeah. Not sure how i feel about that. I mean im open to people doing new things with the IP it wont lessen the comic in any way.

I just hope its good.

What scene with Jupiter are you talking about, Destor?

The convo in ozzys bunker

How was that supposed to go?

Destor
10-11-2018, 10:10 PM
Should have been Manhattan and Ozzy.

Should have been of a complex conversation about the antagonist and the nature of man (which is essentially the climax to the entire story)

Instead you get a scene that undermines both juniper and night owls arcs by basically reducing him to a consolation prize and making juniper too weak to willfully leave a toxic relationship AND you completely ignore ozzy who is never really developed in the film at all since its that scene and the freighter that contain the entirety of his arc baring the bits of monolgueing he does with night owl.

Its a substantially worse story for it by a big margin.

Finally someone agrees. Watchmen was great.
