View Full Version : Forgotten Hell in a Cell matches?

I was reading the article on WWE.com about the history of HIAC. They mentioned two matches I hadn't even known existed.

Kane/Mankind vs. Undertaker/Austin "two weeks prior to KOTR 98", so I'm guessing on RAW?

And Kane vs Mankind on Aug 24th, 98, which I assume was RAW too?

Just wondering if there is any reason these matches aren't spoken of much. Were they awful or just sort of medicore that they aren't worth mentioning? I would think they would have shown clips of them at least, leading up to HIAC matches, but I don't recall seeing any.

Thanks

kane vs mankind was good mankind did a roll up on the tacks and kane had all these little tacks in his butt. Mankind tried to go to the top but the undertaker wouln't let him (before the match). Kane brought the steps into the ring and threw mick out. He was gonna sandwhich mick between the steps and the floor but mick rolled under the ring to get away. Kane got confused and mick started to attack Kane hit the choke slam but then austin came from under the ring and opened hell on kane. Undertaker climed to the top to try to kick his way in but the cell started to move up. *commercial* (that was not the whole match just highlights.

Yeah, they cut off the ending, and I'm pretty sure there wasn't a clear cut winner anyway.

The Kane/Mankind vs Austin/Undertaker kinda never happened. It was scheduled, however some how or another Austin ended up locking himself inside the cell with Paul Bearer and bloodying him up pretty good. If I remember correctly this happened on the same night as Goldberg winning the WCW title on Nitro, however my memory is fuzzy at best so that could be wrong.

I brought it up in the other forum but I didn't know Jericho and HHH had one.

Jericho, at the time was meant to look like shit. And at the same time, a Triple H face run made me fall asleep every Thursday afternoons. I remember for weeks, I'd watch Smackdown late spring of 2002, fall asleep, then wake up to THE SCORE.

Personally, I think the greatest one ever forgotten, is the Kennel From Hell match, Al Snow vs. Big Boss Man

I actually thought Kennel In A Cell andthe HHH/Nash were both in normal cages. Shows how memorable they were!

Kennel from Hell was in both, they had the HIAC over the old Blue Bar Cage.

Austin/Undertaker vs. Mankind/Kane

Kane and Mankind came out with Paul Bearer. Austin came out. The Undertaker's music hit, but Taker didn't come out. Kane and Mankind attacked the distracted Austin. Paul Bearer, meanwhile, locked himself inside the cell to stay safe. Seconds later The Undertaker came out from the underneath the ring, and began beating the hell out of Paul Bearer. Bearer bled like a pig. Kane, seeing this, became distraught, and climbed the cage and basically layed face first on the cage crying, and trying to rip open the cell. Meanwhile, Austin gained the advantage and gave Mankind a SICK...SICK chairshot obviously knocking him out cold. Austin then climbed the cell and attacked Kane as it went off the air.

Undertaker against Big Boss Man was probably the most forgettable, nevermind the tag team one, it never really officially started. Cheeseburgers   :y:   :)

Wasn't the Taker/Boss Man HIAC at a Wrestlemania?

I've already kind of forgot about the Taker/Lesnar HIAC at No Mercy. Was that any memorable?

Well Tim White dislocated his sholder and I believe the undertaker bled like a fiend

Am I the only one who doesn't find Hell in a Cell matches anything special?

No. HIAC matches have become dull and now only two matches are developing. Either big spots but very little psychology, or no spots, and an anti-climatic match. To begin with the possibilities were interesting. Now we've seen them all, and my God it's just boring.
