I personally htink the WWE can go on without him.

He was getting really stale as a character, and the sheriff thing sucked IMO.
maybe come back as head of a security enforcement stable would b ok, but otherwise, i dont think the wwe really has any use for him right about now.

Opinions?

well, his role just became so ludicrous.

the whole shared GM thing was getting fairly dull...when they brought him back, i thought, SWEET, a new role for austin, then the sheriff thing was really average.

now that he's gone, i think raw is much more balanced...and dare i say, that the reason why raw has been getting better of late has to do with no austin, no cheap pops when he enters the arena, and no boring monologues or bantering with other workers?

Its a shame but, cos he is awesome, but I think time away will make the heart grow fonder

"Stone cold steve austin is gonna go home. have a couple of beers, and become the sheriff of Raw." :D

What a schumuck. If he had become head of "security", ithat would have been awesome. He could ahve got Lance storm and maybe some1 like Val venis or another midcarder and put them in his stable, and u could have vignettes of him teaching them how to stun.

instead, they use a stupid sheriff angle, a sheriff who has no necessary role, just goes out there, generally for no reason, and stuns a few ppl. LUDICROUS!

If they had done something like head of security, then i dont think i'd have had any prob with him being on tv still

I don't know why, but I never really liked Austin...

I never liked Austin either. Even less when he was GM/Sherrif. I mean what the heck is the point of pushing a guy who can't wrestle anymore and have him beating the crap out of guys like La Resistance every week?

They should have done this whole disillusionment thing with Austin where he would try to beat the crap out of guys but in turn get beat on himself. Then he would finally realize he can't do it anymore and would have settled in the role of GM, becoming what he always hated, a corporate type guy.

They have too many non wrestlers on the shows. Too many guys who are GMs, owners, sheriff's,etc. My feeling is if Austin cant work, dont bring him on TV.

He cant wrestle, so what good is he?

I've always been a huge Austin fan, but I think he should have hung up his boots after WM19, his match with the Rock.

It's no secret that his neck, back and knees are knackered.
Physically he's not up to having a match with anyone, so rather than letting us see a watered down SCSA, we have had to watch 'Sherrif Austin'.
Personally I quite enjoyed the whole quad-bike thing at first, but couldn't quite appreciate it after Brock stole it, and rode it more bad-ass than Austin.
After that it looked lame.

See, here's the thing.
I started to get disappointed in the whole 'Sherrif Austin' story a while before WM20, but the icing on the cake was when the entire Smackdown roster jobbed to him.
Regardless of what the storyline said about the Smackdown roster turning on Heyman or Brock, the reality is that they put a legendary wrestler who can't wrestle anymore, above an entire show full of current talent.
Out of order!

Austin should have hung up his boots a while back and here's why:

1. He's got too many injuries - one accident and he could cripple himself.
2. He's got too many injuries - he can't hold the same calibre match anymore
3. He's trying to sell a watered down SCSA - that's not what the fans bought into when they made him the star that he is.
4. He's not capable of holding a match that would even put new talent over
5. There's no dignity in going on wrestling until you're as old as Flair. Pick your time to retire, and then retire. Don't do a Terry Funk!
6. Austin is a class act on the mic. Work for WWE in that fashion then!
and lastly....
7. I wanted to remember him as he was - a real bas-ass that I used to totally mark out for - not someone that I have to write a post about like this.

Gotta disagree with you here, which is a real novelty for me! Usually I agree with pretty much everything you post.

Austin doesn't have to wrestle to work, but he shouldn't wrestle anyway.
He CAN work for WWE in many different ways:

1. Developing a protege, being a manager, etc. Passing off some of his legendary attitude and experience to a young wannabee (maybe Cena a year ago?)

2. Heading some sort of stable. I'd never considered the idea before in much detail but the post earlier in this thread is one example of what could be done. I'm sure that suggestions aplenty could be posted about that.

3. As a GM. He has the mic and acting skills to pull it off, and generally WWE likes their GM's to present a bit of attitude. Austin can do that!

4. Anyone ever thought of SCSA as an announcer? I'm sure that him and his buddy JR would make a good old pairing, and given that I can't stand Jerry 'The King' Lawler, I personally would welcome that move.

Anyway, the first 2 ideas could use Austin quite heavily in putting talent over, getting them known to the audience, and establishing them as face's or heels, whichever route they choose to go down.

He cant wrestle, so what good is he?
He can talk. Being brutally honest, that's the main reason he got so popular in the first place, isn't it?

I really wish they'd followed up that Austin/Lance Storm angle with something cool (kinda like DDP/Christian going into WM18) That would've really been something to see, with Austin on the mic and Lance in the ring. Instead, Storm was buried even further than ever, and Austin really didn't gain a damn thing from it.

Anyways, I'd rather not see Austin come back for a while. Maybe in another year or two, he could return as an announcer, but I'd just be afraid that people would keep expecting him to magically shed off all of his injuries and wrestle again (like people want Bret to do) Yes, I'm a big Austin mark, and I would probably mark out to hear the glass shatter one more time, but honestly, his presence as Co-GM and "sheriff" did a lot more harm than help, and I'd much rather remember Stone Cold for his glory days than the guy who wouldn't just stay retired already. At least Foley was able to wrestle again after he came out of retirment for the fortieth time.

No Austin. Never ever again. No more "Rattlesnake," no more "what," no more "sheriff." Just...keep him off my TV.

I'm not ready for a new era of wrestling yet, please bring Stone cold back.
