Bought it yesterday, thought it would suck but it's an pretty cool game.

Anybody else got or played this game and what do you think about it?

I want to get that game so bad, anything that's transformers from the 80's rules

I dunno. doesn't the game have the Minicons in it? That doesn't strike me as vintage 80s.

Yeah, you got to find the minicons or the earth will be destroyed...that is one part that sucks imo.

You don't got a radar and the levels are huge...so basicly you're just walking around hoping to find a minicon :-\

I thought it was based on the 80's? WTF are the minicons doing in it?

It's called Transformers, but they left out the sub title Armada to attract the larger fan base. It's still the best damn Transformers game currently. The sequel should be based on the G-1 comic (Starscream's brother Sunstorm rules; he uses wrestling moves for godsake), but I have a bad feeling it'll be based on the Energon series anyway.

I still don't understand how they could fuck up Transformers so much, can't they just start making transformers from the 80's again?

There is a game based on the 80's Transformers...

...But, it's never gonna be released outside of Japan :(

-The game in Japan based on the 80's horrible. It's little more than a collectors item; sorry to say.

-A reinstatement of the 80's style Transformers is both good and bad. The good is we'll see the classic robots of old in newer situations and higher quality animation. The bad is certain elements will detour us from loving it like the G1 series. Voices will be changed, elements will be altered, so on and so forth.

And let's consider the best Tranformers after G1 was the American/Japanese hybrid Beast Wars and the other series (RID, Armada, Energon) are completly Japanese shows with with story lines and elements we barely get. Armada was better off being called Transformers: Pokemon Hunt, from it's highly Japanese related 'little pet search' theme. Energon is poorly executed dispite having the best toyline so far. You want the best new G1 stuff, read the Generation 1 comic series, and pray they make a cartoon adaption of it.

Yeah, Armada struck me as a way to cute-up the Transformers scene to pander to Poke'brats.

Keep in mind that these aren't unprecedented, however. Remember all the gimmicky transformers lines in the 80s and 90s?

That sentai knockoff run (Where all the transformers would combine with 4 others to form a giant robot) whose name I can't remember?
Pretenders

Some of which were way worse than others. There were others, I'm sure, but I just knocked off the ones off the top of my head.

Gen 1...Is this a enw comic? I haven't heardof it, but I haven't been in the comic collecting mood for years.

I hope you don't mean the Constructicons. Those guys ruled all.

Of course a lot of the knockoffs sucked. I think there were the Stunticons, the Aerialbots (didn't these two teams fight against each other on the show?), some rescue-vehicle-themed Autobot line, and some Decepticons who were all mythical beasts, I think.

Well, I didn't say all these things are BAD. I just said that there were precedents.

The Generation One comic is sorta new. The GI Joe/Transformers crossover is a good read as well. But alas, even the comic realm is suffering. The first Transformers volume did well, so now there's nearly FOUR seperate series. Give me a break.

PS:

Any Transformer group that could form a larger robot were called Gestalts. They were always popular with older collectors (Kids never liked the more complex ones). The Gestalts were cool, but yes, the post-'86 gimicks were abit dry.

I played it yesterday for 5 hours and the game sucks! First i said it ruled, but you don't got a radar to find the fucking minicons and fuck...the game just sucks imo. I take back every good thing that i have said about the game.

Great for older collectors, I suppose, but when you're a kid, it's night impossible to convince you parents that you need five robots to build up the one big robot. I suppose many a Dad snickered at the overt marketing tactic.

I that respect, I guess we did sound like Pokemon junkies. ;)

Some stores were lucky enough to order gestalt packs where every robot needed was in one box. Such stores were rare though. Don't compare us to Pokeheads; these guys at one time choose to play Pokemon cards than the damn videogame. It never made since as to why you'd want to imagine a battle than see it in a gameboy or console.
