Can't help but feel this will be a "step backward" for DC movies

You'd think anyone involved in that Suicide Squad film would know better than to come back for another portion.

I have no interest in this. Spring Breakers was already a thing and it sucked, no point remaking it with a niche comic book character no matter how much teenagers like Margot Robbie's mad bitch get-up.

It's clearly trying to copy off the Joker trailer.

Tend to agree, largely because it has the stank from Suicide Squad written all over it. Maybe we'll be surprised.

They would be better off making her into a cross between Squirrel girl and Deadpool. I'll hold out for a better trailer but I am not hopeful

Nah, a female chick. Never heard of her. Though there's lots of little tells that Robbie herself is running the show.

You mean like the title of the movie

DC is an absolute mess. They need to forget Batman for about 10 years. They have a good thing going with Wonder Woman. I hear Aquaman is decent. I cannot believe James Gunn agreed to write and possibly direct Suicide Squad 2 outside of just telling Disney to go fuck themselves.

I am pulling for the Joaquin Phoenix Joker, though. The press shots look like shit...

Gunn coming on for suicide squad is possibly a blessing. The first one was horse shit. He might be able to inject some life into.

Matt Reeves' "The Batman" is slated for June 25, 2021. Affleck officially stepped down.

This may be the worst film title ever proposed.

I remain highly "dubious" of this film. Wish that Black Canary/Huntress looked more like Black Canary/Huntress...... also wish that if they were gonna make Harley Quinn the main character that they should have just made a "Gotham City Sirens" movie with Poison Ivy/Catwoman

yeah i'm 100% with lock jaw on this. no idea why this wasn't just a gotham city sirens movie

trying to hook in birds of prey fans and then not only giving them... whatever the heck these interpretations of black canary and huntress (and cass cain) are supposed to be... but turning them into back-up characters in (ostensibly) their own movie is... a bold move, i'll say that much

not suuuuuper optimistic for this one

I want this to be as fun as it looks in the trailer. I have no emotional ties to any of these characters, so a decent/watchable movie is good enough for me. That being said, I have little faith in this.

I remain dubious.

The Harley Quinn animated show is pretty great though, so hoping they can make Harley enjoyable here

Although The Dark Knight, Logan, and Joker are amazing - I've never been trusting of movies based on comic characters that don't seem to want to be superhero movies. I see the vibe they're going for here, but it's not what comes to mind when I think of a 'Harley Quinn movie'. Or a Birds of Prey movie or Gotham Sirens movie or whatever this is.

Suicide Squad was a stupid yet entertainable movie. This looks simply the former.

we're getting a black label book (loosely?) based on this iteration of the team

https://img.purch.com/h/1400/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5uZXdzYXJhbWEuY29tL2ltYWdlcy9pLzAwMC8yNjUvOTk3L29yaWdpbmFsL0JMSFFCb1AwMV9DVlItZWRpdC1s b3cuanBnPzE1NzAxNDYyOTc=

not loving the fact they seem to be doubling down on this interpretation of cass cain

i know black label is out of continuity, but still... i just don't understand any of these creative decisions

Kalyx triaD

i happily stand corrected: this was heaps of fun. it's a really good time

i still don't love cassie's characterisation. the character herself was fine; she just didn't need to be named cassandra cain

but canary, huntress and montoya were all great. definitely margot robbie's show but backed by a great ensemble. black mask and zsasz putting out huge 'hook/smee in hook' vibes, and it is kind of glorious. thought i was gonna hate them both but they were actually kinda great

anyway, this film whips

Huh? Outside JL and SS, they've been on tear starting with Wonder Woman. WW, Aquaman, Shazam, Joker and Birds of Prey. They've surprisingly rattled off a handful of good to great films in the last few years despite BvS and JL threatening to derail them.

yeah, it's a pity that the bad films that came before it will likely be its undoing more than any of its own failures, because they actually got this one mostly right

i maintain the R rating was totally unnecessary -- for the sake of a few f-bombs and some gratuitous violence, they could have easily trimmed/implied a couple of scenes and brought themselves down a rating without sacrificing anything that gave the film its flavour, to at least make it easier for teen girls, who you would imagine would have been a fairly crucial market segment, to actually see this movie

mitchables

i do agree that wonder woman, shazam and aquaman should have at least given DC little a good faith, as a treat

Agreed. A few scenes could've been shot differently and done the same thing. It's a shame really because this was a fun time. Hopefully it's blu ray and on demand sales help it out.

i hope positive word of mouth also gives it a bit of a late-game boost internationally, because basically everyone who's actually bothered seeing it has come away pretty effusive about it

basically i want more films like this and fewer like BvS, so i am on board for whatever it takes to keep up the technicolour confetti violence over grimdark mopeathons

Theyre on their way out of the penalty box. Thats for sure. But im picky about what i go to theater for. If birds of prey is good (at home) then thatll be a big win to get me back in the theater.

Almost as a punishment for the fincial success of suicide squad this film should fail at the box office.

Lock Jaw

I think the "good will" of DC from WW/Aquaman/Shazam didn't extend to this one precisely because it reminded people of Suicide Squad.

I wonder if enough "common people" will know who James Gunn is for The Suicide Squad to actually do well, or if most people will dismiss it. Or if DC will push hard in the marketing "From the man who brought you Guardians of the Galaxy" to try to use Marvel to sell a DC movie.
