Foley vs. Rock, I Quit match for the WWF title.

Back then I was in awe over the brutality of the match. Now I just wince or start thinking of all the potential brain damage Foley took from those sick sounding chair shots, especially the ones where Rock did not hold back.

In a more recent moment, David Arquette vs Nick Gage match from Janela's last show where Arquette had a visible gash on his neck from a light tub attack.

That’s harsh, Slicky. She was making an effort to standout during her stint.

Yep, saw that one one of Foley's DVDs. Sandman was out of it and pissing Foley off with every rise-up.

You blamed Beth for a botch on one of the most common wrestling spots. It was most likely Candance not being in the right location for it.

How the fuck was that Beth's fault?

Candice beamed herself because she was awful and didnt know how to take a bump that literally every wrestler has taken thousands of times.

I did not blame Phoenix for that. The way Phoenix dragged Candice to the middle of the ring for the pinfall was careless. Of course their knowledge about concussions has expanded since.

Definitely Candice. She had a 2 out of 3 falls match with Beth on Raw that was terrific (the video guru dave posted was the end of the match) Her feud in general with Beth was great. Check out any of her 2007 stuff. Really good stuff with Melina too. Her match at Unforgive 07 with Beth is probably her best match.

Yes that and the Godaddy Super Bowl commercial. Those reasons are why they kept her on after the diva search.

It took her some time, but she became a legitimate wrestler.

Clearly WWE should be making a movie about her.

Yeah. There were guests here and there I enjoyed because they showed genuine enthusiasm and you could tell they really wanted to be there.

But so many of them were just there to hock their upcoming movie or TV show and they looked like they couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I was on vacation when I was 10 and on the Monday night of the trip my dad and his gf who both hated wrestling allowed me to watch Nitro as they were going to be out and about that evening.

They got back right near the end of the episode, just in time to see Macho Man slap Torrie Wilson and throw Gorgeous George against a wall.

If I'm watching a show he's on I'm always cognizant of the fact that I'm watching an old show and don't focus on the fact that Benoit or anyone else is dead.

That said there was a SmackDown episode where Bischoff gets front row seats only to discover with horror that Benoit and Eddie had defected from Raw. And Michael Cole just goes "Eric Bischoff looks like he's seen two ghosts!"

I could NOT believe they didn't edit that line out.

Wrestlers are by and large not great people. Things have changed alot nowadays, but if I stopped watching wrestlers due to shitty things they've done, it would wipe out 90% of the 80's and 90's wrestlers

Jordan
02-02-2019, 11:12 AM
I do watch Benoit matches usually, I don't recall skipping them. However I tend to avoid WWE events that he worked on. Watching him in WCW doesn't really bother me as much because there is a kind time line separation I tend to make. However, I do think about it every time I see him and usually end up feeling like what a waste of talent. Dude was probably the best worker ever minus the ability to connect with the crowd. But usually his work was was serious and believable he didn't have to pander or play to the audience ever.

I watch a ton of old wrestling but I rarely watch anything WWE after 98. Around the time Smackdown! came on it just gets muddled for me. Back in 99 I didn't have access to UPN so I never got in the habit of watching Smackdown! and to be honest I've never been in a long term viewing habit with the show. It always felt extra to me. Mostly because my fandom includes more than just WWE.

To be fair, there is a difference between being a sleazy piece of shit and being a murdering piece of shit. I've always been able to watch his work, but it's hard to actively engage with him as one of the greatest of all-time, even though intellectually he is. It has tainted his work to some degree.
