This appeared on Netflix today so instead of taking my lumps from Ascension, Stranger Things and Hill House and quitting Netflix entirely, I jumped headfirst into this.

Two episodes in I'm laughing a lot in both a straightforward and "what the fuck" way. I have no idea what the source material for this is but it must be nuts. I know it's a comic but beyond that nothing.

Great cast, solid mystery at the centre and a bounty of WTF laughs. It has a creeping darkness too. Bad things are imminent.

Klaus and Vanya are fantastic, I think Number 5 is class though.

Two episodes in and it's a treat so far.

Do not look at the wiki page for the show or the graphic novel, both contain big spoilers in the team member/cast info.

Half way through and I reckon Vanya will have powers and their emergence is the cause of the Apocalypse.

At the very least the first part of that statement will be true. There has been a bit of foreshadowing but it may be a red herring. If it is that's a great bluff.

Seanny One Ball
02-16-2019, 12:31 PM
Episode 9 spoiler Vanya saw the journal under the bed and read enough to know that Leonard was lying way before she found the journal in his bag and killed him... What the fuck is going on there? Did I miss something? Nobody is that deluded to ignore so many warning signs.

Seanny One Ball
02-16-2019, 01:52 PM
Finished.

That is a fantastic show. It is rich with laughs of all kinds and yet maintains a very dark streak through it's entire run which gets much stronger towards the end.
It is jammed with outstanding characters, Klaus, The Boy, Vanya, Hazel and Cha-Cha... I was extremely taken with the chemistry between actors in this show. It was like The Borg, they all worked phenomenally together and it was written very slick.

I loved it.

I like how there are only three or four fairly well known actors in it and yet everybody feels so familiar and right for the role. It really lets the character speak for itself when you aren't preoccupied with the actor's profile. Genuinely perfect casting.

Seanny One Ball
02-25-2019, 06:53 PM
Diego is great, he's the one that straight away you want to follow.
Luther/Space Boy fails time after time, makes dreadful decisions and seems to hold them back more than anything. I guess that's a fairly ham fisted indictment against the philosophy he was raised with but it works. I quite like the big lug.

I'm 4 episodes in. I dont know what the point is, but i'm somewhat interested. I swear every single scene with Ellen Page is bringing this show down. It's the worst casting ever. She is boring, her scenes are boring. OMG it's fucking terrible so far.

Just finished. Loved it. Thought Ellen Page was brilliant, and RP needs reevaluate his life choices. Diego was an easy draw, but Klaus was the guy I found myself most interested in.

Are we getting a second season? I'd love one but hard to imagine where they go after this.

Seanny One Ball
03-06-2019, 04:02 AM
Klaus' story takes such major turn at one point that the concept itself had me wide eyed in admiration. I think the guy Sheehan that played him did something special with an incredibly interesting character. Perhaps that role could have been so one dimensionally funny in the wrong hands as to detract from the depth of what the poor bastard goes through but I really marked out for Klaus.

Danny Electric
03-06-2019, 08:16 AM
Sheehan is great in this , was brilliant in Misfits too.

Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would , I once had a first edition of the first comic somewhere, probably hidden in a lot of other stuff.

I definitely think the end of it leads in to a second series , without giving anything away.

Damian Rey 2.0

Agreed. He easily had the most interesting and dramatic turn of events as the show went on, and was the most empathetic. The actor in the role did a helluva job.

Damian Rey 2.0
03-06-2019, 01:02 PM
I loved them both. Hazel was so damn likeable. And of course there was his love story with Agnes, which was so damn sweet.

I loved the dynamic between the two. Cha-Cha being devoted to nothing but the job and only that job. Hazel seemingly doing it cuz he was good at it, but wanted more. And his constant bitching about pay and benefits lol. Loved those little things. The end, knowing what happened to him, saddened me.

Liked it too. Really good stuff here.

I dunno about the actor who played Klaus though. Feel like that's the generic representation of a drug addict they would teach in Acting 101. No real nuance to that character until his turn which took a while.

Hazel and Cha-Cha really shine for me in this acting wise. Same for Luther. Not an Ellen Page fan but I don't think her acting ruins anything. Just never adds much to it.

Story wise there are a a couple of things they gloss over and never explain (monkey butler) or are just plain plot holes but when it was good it was really good.

He's devil-may-care to a tee but all the while he's simmering. When his arc changes in an instant you get the entire depth of the character and it's glorious. I love him, he's just a perfect mirror of my own neuroses.

Just finished this up.... great show, and I can't wait for season 2....

Was freaking GUTTED EMOTIONALLY by Pogo's death.... and then later on in the same episode was laughing out loud at Klaus as they are being attacked at the bowling alley and he insinuates they might be there for some kid's birthday party. (Then, of course, the traditional fight scenes set to non-traditional music always makes me smile)

Really enjoyed the whole cast and how they all interacted with each other.

I didn't notice Hazel and Agnes with a briefcase.... Saw that they got sucked into a time portal and assumed The Commission did it for some reason.... where would he have got a briefcase from? Oh, I guess The Handler.....

Show is very guilty of shoe-horning in lots of ugly examples of romance and with characters too annoying to pull it off in a meaningful way.

Huh, the show just made specific reference to Five's relationship with Dolores as the healthiest out of the lot.

Getting a bit pathetic now how easily some situations could be remedied and how stupid this makes everybody seem.

I mean I get that they are all supposed to be inept to some degree but being totally useless and dumb isn't relatable. Not with their gifts.

Takes the shine off the quality when these things are over done.

The last few episodes are all very good though, the first half weren't as action packed.

Season 1 was great, season 2 is only "very good" even if it is basically just a rehash of season one in a different timeline.

Haven't finished but my prediction so far is (I reserve the right to change based on how this season ends) is that no matter where they go they always have to deal with an apocalypse that they create. The final season, should it make it that far, will be them trying to kill their younger selves.

They dropped a pretty big bombshell about sir Reginald so we'll see where that leads. I can't get behone the constant doomsday storyline in every season. It was already wearing thin in this season.

I wonder if they’ll just remake season one again…again…

Can't. No more Ellen Page.

Yay. Seanny is right. Season 1 and 2 is the same. But I still enjoy the show and am excited for this season.

Can't. No more Ellen Page.

Pffft, they can just cast Eli or whatever the fuck they call themselves now, and do the SAME stories, but show the penis perspective. Since he's a dude now, he knows all about how hard penis life is.

Hard penis life gang RISE UP!

Elliot…

Elliot Page.

To be fair she always looked like a boy with boobs.

Elliot Page will 100% hang himself before too long.

Hopefully by the neck and not by the penis, because it will tear off rather easily.
Like a plaster.

He did a pretty sexy nude scene with one of the Mara sisters just before he earned his tadger. Makes me wonder if he did that on purpose.

Slut.

I’d waited since House of Cards to see Kate Mara nude so thanks Elliot

New season dropped.

I’ll give it a go but I hear Vanya is Viktor now… You can’t act like a woman for a few more hours Elliot?! Fuck off!

Seanny One Ball

Spends his whole life training to act like a woman but the moment he becomes a real boy the little Pinocchio prick is too good to put the training into practice.

Disgusting!

apparently acting was just too big of an ask

That was a bit more hateful than I intended but it’s the studio heads I feel sorry for.
How are they supposed to cope with this social landscape?

Cocks appearing and disappearing at the drop of a hat.

Remember lunchtime liposuction?
They’ll do it with dicks next.

Mark my words.

Seanny One Ball

The studio heads should all get together and only cast Elliot Page in projects that star Jeff Garlin, Jeffrey Tambor or Jeffrey K. Rowling.

That’ll teach the little tranny bam pot.

Seanny One Ball

Jeffrey Tambor could teach Elliot Page a thing or two about playing a woman.
As could William H Macey’s jailbird wife.

step one: realise that gender is a social construct forced on you by tradition and expectant norms and the concept is mythical

step two: determine you are trans

step three: give yourself a boy name and boy fashion; mimic all traditions and adopting all expextant norms for your new mythical paradigm

step four: be angry when people laugh at you and your religion of contradiction

step five: avoid all behavioral science

step six: be both stunning and brave

2 eps in. liking Luther's arc and the general plot for the season. Vanya being retooled to match Ellens personal journey is insulting to the craft of acting in of itself but i didnt expect anything more from this so its whatever. (though i do take a large ammount of pleasure in the inherent philosophical contradiction of it all. if gender has no meaning then why does it have so much meaning. a question that seems fiercely avoided both socially and by all the chracters very fearfully not having a conversation about the transition.)

all in all though i think these characters have mostly ran their course so this being the final season is probably the right call. "daddy issues: the show" can only be drug so far

1 and 3 are so contradictory, I've never understood this entire thing. Like..... be whatever, I don't give a shit, but don't force it on to everyone.

Silliness.

Elliot kinda ruined the season...I'm all for their journey but it just took too much of the season away. That and the end of the world wedding, for sure. Also, the fake Diego kid thing was dumb but I still like 'em.

Honestly, I just care about #5, Klaus, Diego, Lila, and whatever Pogo timeline. Allison and Victor are the worst.

At least Luthor got a good ending if the show is done. He had his heart to heart with Vanya/Vic. I heard a rumor Allison can go straight to hell.

i liked the love/wedding angle well enough. it was the only levity the back episodes had really. plus a father killing his son on his wedding nigh is a fine tragedy

It’s a stupid show that told us it was going to be stupid right at the start.
I do enjoy it though, it’s like The Boys but instead of superheroes being assholes they are completely useless.

The sexual assault angle was funny for such a woke show. Hey let’s turn a girl into a boy and then have a sister force her brother into sexual contact by mind control.

Why not Vaughn? I get Victor is more manly but it didn't really make sense for the siblings to go along with such a change especially when they were mad at Victor alot. Just out of spite a few times they would have referred to him as her.

You want Victor, formerly Vanya to change his name to Vaughn because it’s a bit less manly?

Vanya is a man’s name, ironically.

If Elliot Page wanted me to know he was all man all the time he should have whipped his cock out in the first episode of the last season.
Now I can never respect him.
