Those posts are really bad, especially the ones where he belittles people for having anxiety despite suffering through it himself. And he blocks anyone who brings up these posts.

It’s not even that he said one or two awful things. These are posts spanning half a decade showing patterns of racism, homophobia, and a complete lack of regard for the mentally ill. And all of these posts were when he was in his 20s and at an age where he clearly should’ve known better.

Alvarez noted that WWE has known about the comments before he was signed. He also noted that Sullivan apologized to the company.

Alvarez noted that Sullivan vanished in January when he was originally supposed to debut on the main roster. This was around the time when his comments went viral for the first time. The story was that he suffered an anxiety attack. It’s unknown if the anxiety attack was a reaction to his comments going in viral a few months ago. The comments went viral again today on Reddit and this time Big E became the first WWE star to publicly say something.

Alvarez continued, “I don’t know how he is going to respond to Big E and apparently other people in the locker room being unhappy with what he posted on the internet.”

He added, “In WWE’s minds, he did this and he apologized for it. He told them that he was wrong and that he was remorseful and in their minds, it is a done deal.”

According to the Observer, this is the clause in Lars contract that WWE used in order to fine him for comments he made prior to joining the company.

"Wrestler shall act at all times with due regard to public morals and conventions during the term of this agreement. If wrestler shall have committed or shall commit any act or do anything that is or shall be an offense or violation involving moral turpitude under federal, state or local laws, or which brings wrestler into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule, or which insults or offends the community or any employee, agent or affiliate of promoter or which injures wrestlers’ reputation in promoter’s sole judgment, or diminishes the value of wrestler’s professional wrestling services to the public or promoter, then at the time of any such act, or any time after promoter learns of any such act, promoter shall have the right to fine wrestler in an amount to be determined by promoter; and promoter shall have the right to immediately suspend wrestler and/or terminate this agreement pursuant to Section 12.”

Pretty much if an incident causes PR issues for them in the present, then it doesn't mater when the actual incident itself happened since they got dragged into it unwillingly.

Lars would have accepted the fine anyway. It's a token gesture designed to look like they are punishing him without actually punishing him, because they want to keep pushing him. He'd make that money for going to Saudi Arabia.
