Should they? Probably not.
Will they? Almost certainly. Someone has to make the Big Dog look strong.

If Lars gets a world title run before Samoa Joe, Drew McIntyre, and Braun Strowman, Vince McMahon should be forced into retirement.

If Lars wins he needs to have a vignette a week later with Kofi picking Cotton in a field and Lars whipping him while calling him "Boy" in his best Southern accent .

And if Lars can't do a southern accent, Vince will bury him like he is Luke Harper!

It would be classic Mr. McMahon if this did indeed happen.
The guy should be booked to job to every minority wrestler for the next 10 years before they even consider pushing him to the top of the card.

If wrestling still had a spine id say yes. This would be an organic angle. Lean into it. Imagine how good it would feel to have kofi go over him 6 months in. I remember hating heels because they were the worst humans on earth. Heard a mark say Moxly was heel in AEW despite the crowd Austin level popping their balls off. I guess thats whay heels are now. Massively over babies, loved by all.

The problem is with the shitty writing of WWE, they wouldn't do that.
And by "that", I mean follow up with having Kofi go back over Lars. There would be no comeuppance. There would be no payoff. It would be like "people like you" HHH beating Booker T, or when Albert was busy cosplaying as the world's biggest weeb, and Yoshi Tatsu "took offence" to it. The former led to a match proving Hunter right (and he was the heel) and the latter was a squash match that led to nothing (and Tensai was the heel).
The "racist" heel beats the minority face, and that's the end of that, because we still have to use the now vastly outdated metric of Lars being big and looking like a superstar walking through an airport. They wouldn't get to the "and the racist got beaten" or "and the racist reformed". In the case of Kofi, it would just be a means to get the belt off of him since he wasn't supposed to be there to begin with instead of the company riding off of the organic highs that come along and being happy with it.

Firstly, it's too early to tell, since it was a debut. Of course he was going to get a pop even if he raped a puppy and kicked a child to death, because HOLY SHIT DEAN AMBROSE IS MOX AGAIN AND HE LEFT WWE!!!111!!!1ONE At the moment, tweener, but pointing to being a heel that nobody will want to boo.
Face move of DDTing Jericho, but then he attacks the ref and beats the hell out of the clearly babyface Omega. Total heel move, but people anymore will cheer just about anything. Hell, even in the midst of Jericho working the crowd before Mox showed up, he wasn't getting as many boos as he should have. People were trying to start "thank you" chants instead of giving him the heat he was looking for by saying he's expecting said "thank you". Chris tells the crowd to "shut up", and you get assheads like "yayyyy, he told me to shut up, he's awesome!" instead of doing their part and going "fuck you, dickhead! booo!!!"

WWE isn't a wrestling promotion. They're a publically traded, multimedia empire. Their sponsors don't allow them to have a spine.
That said, I wonder if that would even work in today's enviornment. Would people let themselves be told that story, or would they immediately get outraged that this man's past mistakes are being used as a race angle, and reject it outright.
I think the latter.

Are you being serious with this post? You do realise that Lars Sullivan made controversial racist remarks a few years ago right? What type of message would this send to the boys if the WWE made a mockery of the situation? That racism and unwarranted "monkey" jokes are tolerable and acceptable? If you're not being serious with your post, then might I suggest you grow up.

Again, getting a huge pop on a "surprise" debut doesn't just automatically make the man a babyface.
Like I said earlier, fans generally don't play their part anymore. Even MJF has to go overboard to get the reaction he truly deserves. Jericho had to work extra hard for what heat he got, and quite a bit of the crowd was still very noticeably cheering him. He was clearly the heel. He has been a heel since the establishment of AEW. He does heel things. He cheats. He's a giant dick. He treats the management of AEW and all the fans like an asshole. But by your logic with this, he's a babyface, because people still cheer him?
Mox got a babyface reaction because of who he was and the situation surrounding him. If this were a good number of years ago when crowds actually played along, the ref attack and subsequent brawl with Kenny would have had the fans turn on him. Instead, the whole thing became one long "holy shit" circlejerk. Doesn't mean he's supposed to be the hero.
He could do the promo right now where he's bloody with a fork and kept getting... uncomfortable with whoever that chick was supposed to be (read: hair pulling her back when she's trying to escape and gesturing that he's threatining to stab her in the neck while rambling about her smelling like the inside of his mom's purse), and he would get cheers "because he's Dean Ambrose and he cut a totally non-scripted promo and fuck WWE guyz!"
They could run with it, but it doesn't mean that was the intention. They might not run with it at all, and he goes totally batshit and finds a way to make the fans play along with his heeldom and get the proper response. That's why I said it's too early.

Yeah, we're at a point in time where people will just turn off content that rubs them the wrong way in that sense. And it doesn't even need to be offensive content either. I think we're at the point where wrestling fans have gotten into each other's ears about being sick of Brock to the point where Brock's ability to draw has been negated.
Even things that should theoretically work aren't guaranteed to in the environment they have cultivated.

To some extent, I understand this line of thinking but I think it's misguided. I think quality will always win out in the end and posters should focus more on that. No sense using profanity for a hyperbolic effect which ultimately makes this place look trashy. Just my two cents.

It matters not who holds the belt. The SmackDown Championship, when first created, had some promising qualities to it, but Vince made a piss-poor effort (if any) throughout the years to present SD as a brand of equal importance to Raw. Year by year, the legitimization of a brand split dwindled to dog-shit and now the B-Show Championship Belt of SmackDown has as much value as the belt I bought from the Dollar Tree that barely keeps my ass from sliding out.
