Gallagher's been splitting time with NXT UK so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being there full time soon.

WWE had two chances to salvage 205 Live but blew it both times.

The first being in early 2018 with the 1st tournament for a title shot at Mania but didn't carry the momentum after Mania. The other being when the show was taped before Smackdown but it didn't last because Vince moved it back as a live show when season 2 of Mixed Match Challenge ended.

The biggest problems are holding the show after Smackdown and Vince learning nothing on what made the CWC tournament special with fans.

When they held the show before Smackdown, crowds were a lot more receptive and active towards what was being presented.

Vince being hands on from the start did a ton of damage because of his habit of getting bored with things very quickly and his poor track record handling cruiser/lucha style wrestling. Within a few weeks, all the specialness from the CWC is basically gone and the division just felt like every other division that gets neglected.

The only guy who actually got over from Vince's style of cruiser wrestling was Enzo and that was only due to him having very good promo skills. In-ring wise, match quality took a nose dive with him as champ.

They didn't get a great response on Raw, but I don't think they were helped by how hamfisted WWE were about presenting the division. OK now we're going to arbitrarily put purple tape on the ropes and change the announce team because it's CRUISERWEIGHT TIME!

For a while, 205 Live would have multiple stories running at once and all three matches on the show would play into one of those stories. It was great. But you'd never know any of that stuff was going on because on Raw they'd just be doing random matches that had no tie in to anything that would carry over to Tuesday.

Also, outside of the debut of the cruiserweight title on raw, it’s never been treated as important. In WCW ppv’s they would have 25 minute classics in the middle of the card. Now you get 10-15 minutes on the preshow. It’s a miracle if they get on the card.

If you’re treating the title all these guys are fighting for like a red headed stepchild then you’re fighting an uphill battle to gain the audience’s interest.
