So sorry we don't want to see somebody turn into a monster like Chris Benoit or take their own life like Chris Boogard or Junior Seau.

Seriously, fuck you.

Every wrestler who ever took a chair shot either killed someone or themselves. Got it.

By the way This Dark Order gimmick fucking sucks, is Kevin Sullivan an advisor on creative? The Librarians, as recorded also sucks. Kenny playing a goof with stupid hair also sucks and doesn't make him come off as a major star. Good thing Cody is bringing it.

Going to give the Dark Order more time, never seen the wrestle before. The librarian stuff does suck. Leva Bates is better than that gimmick. If it was just Peter Avalon it'd probably be better. Thought the stuff with Kenny was fine just based on the show being centered around a video game expo or whatever it was. Cody is fucking bringing it though.

Leva Bates is terrible. Peter Avalon I used to see on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and he is a good hire (imo).

He was also Norv Fernum in TNA. Did some squash matches with EC3.

What is the Dark Order?

The guys with the mask that turn the lights out and surround the ring. Think they're just a tag team with the big dude and the guy without a mask. They had a Super Smash Bros gimmick on the Indies but they can't use that in AEW obviously.

Oh I forgot about them

Are they any good?

Not sure never seen anything from them. Why I'm waiting to see how they are in the ring. I can get with the gimmick but apart from the guy without a mask the rest seem silly and not what I'd expect from something called Dark Order but we'll see.

Would be a decision if Cody was repackaged as an early 90s radical rassler and called himself CODACULAR and wore Zubaz pants

AEW could then hire Dolph Ziggler and he and CODACULAR could feud

Every wrestler who ever took a chair shot either killed someone or themselves. Got it.

Also, this. First of all, it's a choice. And most wrestlers aren't killing themselves or their families because of chair shot induced cte. If Cody decided that's what he wanted to do, and Brandi was ok with it seeing as she's his wife, them by all means. I don't agree with it, but I'm not going to pretend that Cody taking an unprotected chair shot affects my enjoyment of the show. It's his choice.

On a related note, would anyone be opposed top chair shots of they were done similar to belt shots?

https://statics.sportskeeda.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/image-1446787062-500.jpeg

Basically, hold the chair by its sides instead of its legs and it the other guy with it like you would with a title belt as opposed to swinging it. Seems like a much safer alternative while still being an effective use of a chair.

I say treat chair shots like that as if they were the piledrivers in the old days. Make them rare, but important.

Dunno why the hell MJF is out here helping Cody.... I know this is maybe "real" and he came out to help his "friend"..... but in-character, he shouldn't give a damn... unless it is like "Oh this is my chance to suck up to the boss"

I think the fact that MJF actually cares about Cody adds more depth to the character.

I'm actually interested what exactly they do with this. MJF is a disingenous little shit who talks trash to everyone and anyone EXCEPT Cody. Conventional wisdom would say that he's "sucking up", but he actually shits on everyone else who would be "above" him in prestige and pecking order as well. He's even been openly antagonistic with Brandi.

It's only Cody specifically that he pretends to be nice around. He's a full on heel EXCEPT he actually for some as yet kayfabe unexplained reason wants Cody specifically to think highly of him. Like a "please love me, dad" thing. He's a royal asshole to everyone else in the world, but he needs Cody to see him as a good person. I see (hoping to see) one day Cody becoming "disappointed" in him, and MJF flips his shit because that's the one person whose opinion matters to him.

That can go for a lot of things: make them rare but important. But that's the rub- even without the accidental hardway, how rare will it stay?

Watched this last night. Really good show. Was impressed with Darby Allen even tho he's really small.

I can see where they're trying to go with Page but I wonder if they're going to be able to get him over the hump as a future star. Feel like MJF has out shined him twice.

MJF my new fave heel. Love his schtick and I love the undying love for Cody thing they're running with. I agree with Tom. A long term program where MJF loses it because Cody looks down on him for something would be spectacular.

Moxely v Janella was fun. The bare foot spot on the tacks was fun and Moxely looks as good as I remember seeing him.

So far the long term stories coming out of the last 2 shows are Cody v Shawn Spears, Moxley v Omega, and Page v MJF.

I really think Jericho is going to be there first champ. Don't think Page is ready.

The state of your ring gear, mate

Fucking daisy dukes over yoga pants. Like, are you dressing for a match, or to go shopping at wal-mart at 3 a.m.?

He also took a bunch of insane bumps in that first match I saw and spent a lot of it inside of a body bag with thumb tacks in it . . . and broke his elbow via being hit with a shovel and had to miss like 5 months of time... was immediately a big fan

Nothing wrong with an unprotected chair shot if the performer is down for it. I think it's pathetic that most fans are turned off by something that Cody gave so much for. I've even heard it didn't progress anything, bullshit he's clearly going to want to beat Spears ass now. It was probably my favorite moment of the show and Cody is their MVP right now.

So sorry we don't want to see somebody turn into a monster like Chris Benoit or take their own life like Chris Boogard or Junior Seau.

Further argument that we must move on to the wicker chair shot.

Seanny One Ball

An adult is more likely to be scratched by a child than a wicker chair.

So wicker it up and hit a few kids. Drunk on wicker.

I say treat chair shots like that as if they were the piledrivers in the old days. Make them rare, but important.

This. Unprotected chair shots are dumb, but there are plenty of other things in wrestling that can give you concussions and whatnot too. Wrestlers could even get their hands up because chair shots aimed at the head at all are rare and would probably be effective.

They should probably played it up as a huge deal with threats of fines, suspensions, firings, etc. Cody could have been the guy to keep Spears on, because fuck him, he's going to get his revenge in the ring.

Jordan
07-06-2019, 09:33 AM
Unprotected Balls Mahoney style chair shots are tough to watch and should be a thing of the past. This chair shot from Spears was gimmicked, it's obvious they wanted this exact reaction. The fact that the chair cut him made it 10 times what they wanted.

Most important, the chair was gimmicked so the sick impact and velocity in which the chair was swung was fine, it was a breakaway chair and would've felt like a cookie sheet.

Seanny One Ball

Balls Mahoney looked like an 80 year old man at the end. His brain was mush. I think you have to remember that lots of wrestlers from that era in those matches didn't allow themselves to be smashed in the head with unprotected shots. Wrestling's exhibition of Darwinism. It's not worth it and I find it hard to have any sympathy because a lot of these people were happy to do it and nobody ever recommends it.

I knew not to hit my head when I was a child, now grown men are claiming it's somebody else's responsibility when they do it themselves just to improve what is essentially a performing art form. There's no reason to legitimately hurt anybody. Blading should have been banned in the 80's. I've never felt that a match was better with blood in it. I feel the same about all legit fight sports too. Blood is horrible.

Jordan
07-06-2019, 10:43 AM
I totally understand what you're saying Sean, but part of me ... That nostalgic fan still marks for blood like in the Joey and Mox match or even Dustin and Cody (although that was too much but what can you do)... The blood for Cody from that chair shot was brutal. It did make it seem real, unplanned, off the script which is something I love in wrestling. But I don't want to see more Benoit stories or guys like Saturn who forgo who he was for like 5 years until one day he woke up I. A garbage can and a Sanitation worker said "hey didn't you used to wear skirts on Nitro? Aintchew Saturn?... Hey wait a sec..." And then the Sanitation worker stepped away and around the front of the truck and reached in through the window and pulled out a mop and walked back to the former tv champ and handed him the household tool. "I was going to give this to my wife, but I think this is yours".

And then he started to do signings.

Seanny One Ball

I really hope you made that story up because that's just about the most depressing thing I have ever heard.

Sepholio

Blood can be used to great effect in wrestling, both in terms of believability and telling a story. However it shouldn't be commonplace. Obviously there will always be accidents and you can never account for that, but outside of that, blood shouldn't be an every day thing in wrestling. It's got to be the right time for a guy to get busted open and I'd much rather them blade honestly than do it the hard way, no matter how incredible it turns out.

Cody v Dustin was a perfect use of blood even though I really wish Dustin wouldn't have bled so profusely. Regardless it had an impact and I'm pretty sure that's going to be one of those crimson masks people are talking about decades later. It worked. The blood from the chairshot to cody however wasn't necessary imo, and I'm not convinced yet it was a gimmicked chair and that it was an accident; I think it was a legit hard way spot and they didn't like the immediate backlash they got so tried to spin out of it.

Sepholio
07-06-2019, 12:12 PM
I mean I was there for that damn chair shot. It was unnaturally loud. I've never EVER heard that kind of sound from someone being hit with any kind of object at a show. Everyone in the arena knew something happened that wasn't normal, there was an audible gasp and then everyone got really really quiet. The only talk was about hoping cody was ok and that they had botched the chair shot and Cody really got whacked.

Sepholio
07-06-2019, 12:15 PM
Btw, just remembered this, but the Jebailey/CEO guy that kinda sux0red was actually a really cool dude. After the show ended he came out and milled about in the crowd and was jus talking to everyone and posing for photos and stuff for like 30 minutes; I didn't see anyone else doing it, although they may have been out in some of the halls for all I know.

Seanny One Ball
07-06-2019, 03:58 PM
I think with wrestling that the pre-determined nature of the bleeding is a really huge issue. Unless every guy getting juice has been tested beforehand there really is no excuse for it in today's day and age.

I just don't like it. I love certain matches where it is done to make a point and it works like Hart/Austin or Heavenly Bodies/Thrillseekers but it is a crazy risk to take and as an audience is in splatter range you have to wonder why it has been allowed in a sport with so many junkies for so long.

Seanny One Ball
07-06-2019, 04:01 PM
I should say that my dad worked in blood transfusion for his entire career and he scared the shit out of me with some crazy facts over the years so I may just have an aversion to all things bloody.

I never liked gory MMA or boxing matches.
