***WARNING: THIS THREAD IS FILMED IN FRONT OF A LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE. UP TO DATE RESULTS ARE NOT UNCOMMON. IF YOU WISH TO AVOID SPOILERS, WE HERE AT TPWW SURVIVOR URGE YOU, JUST LOOK AWAY***

Rules:

Everybody selects TWO wrestlers from the NJPW roster, no duplicates allowed. You can select ONE wrestler from the “Core Roster” (who are more likely to appear frequently) and ONE wrestler from the “Regular Roster” (who could also show up frequently, or not at all / will show up on a regular basis but is a low card act). If the contest hasn't yet started, you can change your selection once by making a new post saying you're changing your selection (don't just edit your original post).
Your wrestler is eliminated if he or she submits or is pinned during a match at a televised (aka it's on New Japan World) NJPW event. Disqualifications, count outs, or being eliminated from a battle royale does not cause elimination. In multi-man matches (tag, triple threat, etc.), only the person who is pinned or submits is out. Shows run by partner promotions (REVPRO / CMLL / ROH) do not count and therefore any wrestlers who work there primaraly are risky picks. REVPRO / ROH / CMLL crossover events DO count, provided they are promoted with the New Japan branding. AEW have no affiliation with NJPW
In the event of a match finishing via KNOCKOUT, the Small Council of Elders have met and come to the majority decision that a KNOCKOUT will count as an ELIMINATION. This will effectively be a slight nerf to the character Hiroshi Tanahashi.
In a slight change to WWE flavour Survivor, your wrestler will also be eliminated if he goes SIX weeks without having a televised match in a NJPW ring for any reason whatsoever (injury, marital affair, seduced by Vince or Tony, Davey Boy Jr'd, etc.). There is a constant countdown going on from your wrestler's last match, so even if bad luck happens - you can still potentially win as long as everyone else loses in that span. In the event of two or more competitors being eliminated on the same day due to this rule and that impacting on podium positions (rank 1-3), the wrestler positions will be determined by time of last performance (meaning main eventing is more valuable than opening). In addition, the six week ruling will occur at the end of a show if one is running concurrent to the cut off date, meaning anyone who loses on the show will place lower than whoever gets six week'd. If you suffer a ban for the length of the game you will be disqualified.
If you win you get your choice of either first picks next season or double picks for the next season. If you take the option of double picks, you must wait until at least EIGHT other people have selected in order to prevent you from becoming The Skippord. If you are inactive upon winning to the creation of the next season, you will not get first pick and instead get double picks. In accordance with previous versions of this rule, a minimum wait time of 48 hours must pass before a prize can be defaulted.
A wrestler must be an active participant in a match for it to reset the six-week timer. Lumberjacks, special referees, managers, "enforcers," guest commentators, etc. do NOT count... but there will be less of this shit here anyway.

Sign-ups are allowed until the start of the the 10th August 2019 edition of G1 CLIMAX 2019 at the start of show, in the beginning of this night / morning, right then, on Saturday 10th August 2019, on this day, eliminations will be eliminated, starting on this show, on the New Japan World, in the genesis of Yoshi Tatsu.

Winning wrestlers must sit out 3 seasons before returning. For winning Season 2, "BONE(R) SOLDIER" Taiji Ishimori is ineligble. For winning Season 3, KNIFE PERVERT Jay "Switchblade" White is ineligible. For winning Season 4, Jushin Thunder Liger is ineligible.

For winning Season 4 and bringing his New Japan win rate to a cool 50%, Conspiracy Victim Vito has decided to GO ACE and will be performing an air guitar duet with Hiroshi Tanahashi, while his second pick, El Phantasmo, bullies defenceless children in the background.

We are jumping in to this season as the G1 Climax reaches it's dramatic... uh.. climax? Let's go with conclusion. We begin on the night of A Block's final, where one lucky wrestler will advance to the final. Day 2 is B Block's turn and then we enter the final final where ANYONE could show up. Still in the mix to win the whole damn thing are Kazuchika Okada, Kota Ibushi, Jon Moxley, Tetsuya Naito, The Knife Pervert and a couple of other guys who are definitely not going to win even though we love them dearly, those poor sweet midcard murder machines. Here's a quick once over of our opening nights and the current point totals:

A BLOCK

SANADA (8) vs Bad Luck Fale (6)
EVIL (8) vs Lance Archer (4)
KENTA (8) vs Zack Sabre Jr (6)
Hiroshi Tanahashi (8) vs Will Ospreay (6)
Kazuchika Okada (14) vs Kota Ibushi (12)

B BLOCK

Toru Yano (8) vs Jeff Cobb (6)
Tomohiro Ishii (8) vs Taichi (6)
Shingo Takagi (6) vs Hirooki Goto (10)
Juice Robinson (6) vs Jon Moxley (10)
Tetsuya Naito (10) vs "KNIFE PERVERT" Jay White (10)

I will be participating in the game, but in the interest of fairness, I won't make my picks until at least ten pairs of wrestlers have been chosen. (In the depressing event that ten pairs are not chosen I will make my choices within 24 hours of the start time).

When Naito wins the G1 in a couple of days and becomes a lock to not lose til the Dome I’m gonna be feel real dumb.

:| SANADA lost to Bad Luck Fale.

Crushed my chance at a title last season and didn't even last a single match before deciding to do the same this season.

You've got to believe Gedo is just booking SANADA to troll Survivor at this point.

I know you're reading this, Gedo.

Operated under the assumption that the losing streaks would get snapped.

Archer pulled through. KENTA had to go get twisted into a pretzel.

I knew I would get through today. Let's see what happens tonight... this morning... at the FINALS.

I think Shingo is going to get a solid push after the two tournaments he's shown up in. Shooter, well... so far so good.

Phantasmo vs Eagles should be fun. Unfortunately I don’t see Phantasmo going the distance in that tourney.

Kota’s the easy favorite right now because he figures to not be pinned until the Dome. But I could see Shingo holding out a very long time as well.

Ultra Mantis
08-13-2019, 09:53 AM
Can't count out the dads yet either, all they need to do is show up every other tour and beat up young lions.

Ultra Mantis
08-13-2019, 09:55 AM
Tama Tonga is also a sneaky one since he usually lets Loa take the fall and he never does singles anymore.

Evil Vito
08-13-2019, 04:10 PM
True that. It's always a crapshoot on whether the dads will be booked. Nagata and TenCozy were on Kizuna Road whereas Nakanishi hasn't wrestled since March.

And good call on Tama, I never even considered picking him but that's a great under the radar choice.

Ultra Mantis

Couple of juicy tidbits today.

1. New Lions Cup is back and will be happening during the DESTRUCTION tour next month, it will have absolutely no impact on the game other than taking up two matches on each card. That could potentially make a few guys time out.
2. Safe for now, however, are the New Japan Dads, who will be wrestling on 8th September at the very least as they take on Bullet Club in Nagata's annual anniversary homecoming. Its going to be:

DADS (Nagata / Tenzan / Kojima / Nakanishi / Liger) vs Bullet Club (Jado / Yujiro / Fale / Tonga / Loa)

The Dads (Nagata / Kojima / Nakanishi) are pretty much guaranteed to survive the month.

Shingo has two dangerous matches, tomorrow w/ SANADA vs Okada & Goto and then the singles with Goto on the 22nd.
Makabe seems fairly safe, but he does have a tendency to get pinned unexpectedly.
Ibushi is probably fine, KENTA is not going to win the briefcase.
Tama Tonga usually snakes his way through, so you have to believe Loa is taking the fall against Ishii and YOSHI. That doesn't make him safe though.

I'd say Gedo & Jado are 100% dead.
Tiger Mask is the most likely to take a pin on the babyface team in his final two matches, though Roppongi 3k aren't too far above him. He might make it.
El Phantasmo is a slimy prick and I can't see him taking a pin this tour. They seem to have him above BONER SOLDIER in the pecker order.

Marty Scurll - Will be eliminated on 21st September.
Lance Archer - Will be eliminated on 23rd September.
Juice Robinson - Will be eliminated on 12th October. He could still appear on the New Japan Road tour 4th-7th October and is scheduled to face Jon Moxley on 14th October at Kings of Pro Wrestling. I expect he will. But also I think Mox beats him anyway.

When I was picking Tiger MAsk I had the cartoon I used to watch as a kid in mind.

This one kinda looks like that guy but not entirely.

Current Tiger Mask is the fourth guy to use that gimmick and it was actually licensed off the anime character. They've also had guys wrestle in the heel Black Tiger gimmick to feud with him, Eddie Guerrero was under the mask at one point.

Kojima, Nakanishi & Nagata should all safely reset their timers unless something highly unexpected happens with their young lions.

El Phantasmo is certainly getting a big push, but as one half of the Jr Tag Champs and the Jr Tag League being the next tour after this show it's hard to see him being pushed as double champion. Especially when Hiromu Takahashi Is SURELY GOING TO COME BACK NOW AND CHALLENGE OSPREAY GOD FUCKING DAMN IT WHERE IS HIROMU? I HAVE CALLED HIS RETURN AT LEAST SIX TIMES NOW, IT'S GOTTA BE HERE BUSHI NEEDS A TAG PARTNER TO CARRY HIM THROUGH THE TOURNAMENT AGAIN AHHHH. So yeah, I think he's toast, but what do I know?

Tiger Mask is in there with a couple of lunatics so who knows if we even get a real match there and if we do it's a toss up if Tiger or Kanemaru get's wrecked.

Juice Robinson is safe from a TIME'S UP, however, the "TIME BIKER" Jon Moxley seems very likely to defeat him at KING of PRO WRESTLING. It wouldn't be too outlandish for Juice to go over here but it would all seem quite pointless and with Shota about to head out on excursion you have to believe he's going to go out helping his adoptive dather retain here. I'm not counting him out just yet, we all know Gedo likes to throw out curveballs to sabotage TPWW Survivor.

Togi Makabe, poor old Togi Makabe. I can definitely see him taking the pin for his best friend Tanahashi's anniversary celebration. 100%. But also Tanahashi is teaming with Honma and Honma's current finish is getting pinned no matter the circumstances. Makabe is definitely out and definitely safe at the same time.

Which brings us to Kota Ibushi, G1 Winner, top prospect to win Season 5. Ibushi will face his most dangerous matches to date as he teams with Okada (awful win / loss record in tag matches) to face EVIL & SANADA (2x former Tag Team Champions). SANADA and Okada are very unlikely to take a fall in either of these matches, which means either Ibushi or EVIL is taking the pin. To double the danger, these back to back matches could result in the two teams trading wins or since it's not even a spoiler to say EVIL and SANADA are losing the singles matches, they have got to be hot favourites in the tags. If Ibushi survives this you can believe he's good until January. IF.

Only the NY show is airing live on New Japan World although with only Japanese commentary as an option. The others are getting the tape delay treatment like with last month's Super J-Cup tournament.

No but him vs. EVIL in some form is on all the shows.

Sept 27 - Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi, & Kazuchika Okada vs. Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, & SANADA
Sept 28 - Kota Ibushi & Kazuchika Okada vs. EVIL & SANADA

The first two shows are the biggest threats for him but the last one has TJP locked in as a pin eater if needed.

Dads on Tour.

Nakanishi (52)
Nagata (51)
Kojima (49)
(NPC Champion) Tenzan (48)
Makabe (47)
Tiger Mask (43)

Young whippersnap Tiger Mask is primed to take this home, realistically all he has to do is avoid being pinned during the Super Jr Tag League. None of the other Dads are booked for Super Jr Tag League, so if they have any hope of refreshing their timer they will have to either show up on the US shows NEW JAPAN SHOWDOWN (9th and 11th of November) or enter the World Tag League (starting 16th November) where they will surely be pinned unless they can grab a Young Lion tag partner of their own.

Tiger Mask's SJTL partner, Yuya Uemura is the young lion of the lowest order, finishing last in this years Young Lion Cup. While the team and super likely to lose every single match, Tiger Mask SHOULD NEVER TAKE THE FALL. However, you must remember that Tiger Mask legit forgot to kick out of a roll up earlier this year during The Best of Super Jrs Tournament.

He must survive:

16/10 (SJTL) vs Team CMLL [Titan / Volador Jr]
17/10 (SJTL) vs Coach 2 Coach [Rocky / Taguchi]
19/10 (SJTL) vs Bullet Club [Phantasmo / BONER]

As you can see from the list, all of our surviving participants are in the bottom end of point expectancy.

Nakanishi and Kojima will NOT survive this tour. Absolutely no chance.

Yuji Nagata has a slight chance, but due to the schedule he might take a few big bumps for Nakanishi as NPC Tenzan will do for Kojima. I'd say he's also gone (and I'm looking at Fale to do it at the very least).

Big Togi has a slightly larger chance since he's teaming with Honma, and while I've placed them low, if any of the older teams are going to get a nice run it should be these guys. They were back to back winners before Honma got injured and this is their first time entering since. Honma eats a lot of pins, but that's not to say Makabe is as protected as he has been in the past. He is however, in a much stronger position for survival than if he had tagged with Yano, but a somewhat worse position than tagging with Henare.

Then there's Tiger Mask. Tiger Mask Tiger Mask Tiger Mask. I'll get onto this more when we look at the schedule but he's not looking as good as he should be...

Tiger Mask is joining the party on Sunday, Makabe and Nagata still stubbornly refuse to lose. It's anyone's guess who takes it but currently it's advantage Nagata. He barely even interacted with his former protégé Fale and Nakanishi is still insisting on taking every bump possible. The mad old bastard might actually go two wins in two seasons. More importantly, last place SANADA still has a chance to be on the winning team. He's so good.

Cards until WK are out, Makabe is part of the three road to shows in the opening tag matches, he has both Honma and new lions as partners so it would be a shock to see him lose.

Nagata is not booked for any of the shows. He has until the 19th of January to wrestle, meaning he must appear as part of the Fantasticamania tour, or get added to a match at New Years Dash. He could of course be a participant in the New Japan rumble of they add it to the WK card (they didnt last year).

I'm still catching up on watching Wrestle Kingdom but I've seen that both Nagata and Makabe survived the event. They could both appear at New Years Dash tomorrow, but then we have Fantasticamania, which most of the roster takes off. Wouldn't expect them to be on that one but cant rule it out entirely. The New Beginning tour in January / February would then be the last chance for them to beat the clock and I'm pretty confident they both will. Failing an unlikely high profile singles match or another bumper edition New Japan Cup for this one could keep running indefinitely. Even if Makabe gets back in the G1, that's moved to later in the year due to the Olympics.

Hope Nagata randomly comes out tomorrow and challenges for a belt. Or gets pinned by Tsuji. Fingers crossed.

All caught up, here's the lay of the land:

Nagata's timer runs out on 15th Feb, Makabe on the 16th Feb.

As expected, neither are on the Fantasticamania tour (10th Jan - 20th Jan).
There is New Beginning USA scheduled from 24th Jan - 1st Feb, the older guys don't tend to work these shows but, again, can't rule it out.
Running concurrently, The NEW BEGINNING tour runs from 25th Jan - 9th Feb with marquee shows on the 1st, 2nd & 9th.

Cards for New Beginning will only be revealed following Fantasticamania, but there's a twist. Nagata's lost time tag partner and rival Nakanishi will be retiring early into the NEW JAPAN ROAD tour (19th-22nd Feb are his available dates). Nagata is a lock for these events, but time will have expired by the time the tour begins. There's always the chance for the retirement tour to begin earlier, during The NEW BEGINNING but with Nakanishi so broken down they might want to save it.

Of course either guy could get booked on NEW BEGINNING so its not over yet, and providing they both do this wont be until at least NEW JAPAN CUP in March (and thats IF either of them participates in the tournament).

We wont know anything else until the 21st.

Yours Ominously,
Ultra Mantis

Oh wow, Fantasticamania so inconsequential they released the New Beginning Cards already.

Nagata has already dumped Nakanishi and is teaming with Kojima on the New Beginning USA tour.

Nakanishi is teaming with Tenzan back in Japan... against Makabe and his numerous partners.

Also Nagata must have taken the news very badly because hes challenging Lance Archer in a singles match on the 26th.

I am going to cry when Nakanishi pins Makabe on the 25th.

If Nagata somehow survives Archer and the rest of the US tour he will join the rest of the dads to take on Team Makabe on the final day of the Japan tour. Clocks away. Circle the 26th on your calendars.
