Lets do this...?
Post your 3 picks for game of the year. Top 5 most picked will go into a poll after the new year and we'll vote. Votes are seeded so a 1 seed = 3pts. 2 seed = 2 pts. 3 seed = 1 point.
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
2. Death Stranding
3. Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steele 3
Not started Star Wars yet but its prob good enough to make the list.

Control, The Outer Worlds, Borderlands 3. In that order tbh. Control is above the other 2 by a mile for me though.

Game of my year is probably Final Fantasy 6 .
The SNES mini is still delivering me the goods, going to do Link to the Past in the new year, though I think i'm gonna have to buy some sort of wireless controller, my current cable length is only around a metre :-\.
Smashed through the new Call of Duty campaign which was real good.

Control seems very divisive
Can understand why it wouldn't appeal to some people. It's weird. It feels weird. Everything about it. By design obviously. The only thing I can relate it to is if you know what the show Fringe was. This game seems like it came out of one of the crazier corners of that universe.
It has the single greatest sequence I've ever played though imo. The Ashtray Maze. It's a fully interactive mind bending rock opera of unadulterated mayhem....while on acid. It starts out like the P.T. demo, an exercise in insanity. But when you finally figure out how to progress past the initial part it just takes off into pure madness. Even if you never intend to play the game I'd recommend watching a video of that part of it at least.

I'm going to play REmake 2 after Pokemon and then figure out if my schedule will allow me to get some more choice in. So many games. Sekiro is a potential hot pick, not going to have time for that level of FE3H even though I want to play it at some point. Monster Hunter Iceborne is probably up there if expansions count.
RDR2.
No fucks given that it came out last October. PC and Stadia versions came out this year.

Feel like E.T. (for sure one of the worst ever, no doubt) is blown way out of proportion by the hyperbolic urban legend. It's funny reading all the stories about it being 10 times worse than any other peice of software ever and it's like....ehhhhhhhh *press X to doubt*.
Destor
11-27-2019, 07:33 PM
I think its worse because of 2 factors
1. No perspective on what games were at the time
2. Playing it without a manual is 1000x worse
even still its urban legend status is earned...its not big rigs tho...

1) Katana Zero
2) Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
3) Duck Game (Switch)
Had to look up what games I bought this year were actually released in 2019 and which were played enough to be rank worthy.
Bought Bloodstained on Black Friday and that should replace Duck Game and maybe reach #2 once I get some quality time with it.
Games like Tetris 99, Super Mario Marker 2, and Mortal Kombat 11 were other notable ones I bought or downloaded this year but were barely played.

Though I get the bagging on ET - and I lived through it; I owned that game - it isn't so much urban legend than straw that broke the camel's back for the games industry at the time and being the scapegoat since with the true and proven legend about the recalled carts buried in a landfill.
Objectively, being the poorly designed rushjob made by a single person that it was, it wasn't like it was much worse than Raiders of the Lost Ark (where you needed the instructions for ET, you needed the included goddamn map and walkthru for Raiders). But all that considered, the biggest problem with ET was the touchy controls. Shit was frustrating with the stiff-ass joystick with a single button that had to do multiple functions.
My vote for 2019 games:
1) Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
2) The Outer Worlds
3) River City Girls
Honorable Mention) Resident Evil 2*
*(with the qualifier that though I love RE, and the game came out this year, I don't really like the ammo eating nature of the retooled mechanics - added frustration for frustraton's sake just to do something different from the masterful remake of 1)
My vote for shitty shit shit-tier turd tournament:
Shaq-Fu. You know your fighting game is terrible when, on a roster of bland and rather forgettable misfits, the titular character is also the whackest.
Black Widow

Luigi's Mansion 3

My pick for a surprise reveal tonight is Horizon Zero Dawn 2.
I know Guerrilla put the word out for filling some jobs. So, if there's anything, it's an actual announcement and/or super early development stuff.
Anyway, Sony's State of Play revealed a teaser for Ghost of Tsushima. I'm thinking it's going to be a release date. Possibly a launch title for PS5.

I think Ghosts is going to be a cross platform title that releases for PS4 and PS5. Heck, it's a long shot but we might get the unveiling of the PS5 itself tonight, or the NextBox.
Also I imagine Horizon 2 is a lot further along than you think. As soon as they finished the DLC over 2 years ago they probably went straight into developing the sequel because of how popular the game was. I'm thinking it will be one of the big launch titles next fall for the PS5.

Alright, I've played an entire THREE games released this year now so here we go. By default!
3. Wattam
Very weird, very short, not really too much of a game... but its quirky enough that I still really like it. There's not enough substance to place this any higher and it lacks any real emotional knockout punch. Prince of All Cosmos is in it though and I'm a Katamari mark.
2. Resident Evil 2 (REmake)
Resident Evil 2 is one of the greatest games of all time. REmake 2 is not. It's pretty good, sure, but WHY IS "B" MODE EXACTLY THE SAME AS "A" MODE I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS. WHY DO LEON AND CLAIRE NEVER INTERACT. WHERES ZOMBIE BRAD? WHERE IS THAT FUCKING MOTH?
1. Pokemon Sword & Shield
Is this the best game that came out this year? Haha no. But it's the best one I played so well done Pokemon. You win this round. Cutting my favourite Pokemon apparently isnt as detrimental as cutting the entire reason RE2 was brilliant. It also has Clobbopus, which is really the only thing it needed for me to give it the nod here.
If I'd actually played Sekiro & Fire Emblem: 3 Houses I'm pretty sure they'd be getting some points. Monster Hunter Iceborne too. Maybe Death Stranding. Luigi's Mansion. I dont know. I dont know!
How'd I miss this? Looks like a real gem
