Looks like some roster bloodletting is afoot. Might as well make a thread

Didn't know the Ascension were still around, tbh. Did they ask for it like Harper and Sin Cara did?

Also allow me to start the "more AEW signings!" speculation.

Honestly, there's a handful of talents that I'd rather see in NWA than AEW. Harper is at the top of that list.

Not sure about Harper but Sin Cara mentioned a while ago that he wanted to work for the same promotion Alberto Del Rio/El Patron is in.

Its an MMA promotion but includes several wrestlers.

I feel like the Ascension needed this. They were dominate and good and got wasted on the main roster.

Sadly AEW has too many tag teams like them already.

Harper would be a great fit for AEW, he can go and they need some bigger dudes

Does Harper have to wait 90 days still?

I bet so

Based on some reading elsewhere, even if WWE did something like release 20% of their roster for some major cleaning, they'd still have around 200 people left on the roster.

Something like around 250 people they currently have between the main roster, both NXT branches, and the PC. Plus have a bunch more coming in starting next month and its going to jump even more once NXT UK's PC and NXT Japan happen.

I’d like to see The Ascension in NWA as an actual power and paint tag team.

MAAAAN you know you are bad when WWE releases you without even having to ask for it

Ascension had cool music.

It's about time. They should release more and flood the marketplace. I can see them all ending up in AEW, because AEW needs talent badly. Jorge Arias could end up in Jericho's group, Harper would be a segment onto himself covered and then you've got The Ascension, who are shit, but better than The Dark Order.

Both Viktor & Konnor of Ascension are 39, I didn't realize either was that old... so I guess it makes sense to free up their spots to a younger team....

Viktor will likely get a job as a trainer for Breeze & Dillinger's wrestling school if he does'n't get an offer somewhere else...

Looking forward to WWE cleaning out even more in the coming weeks. They have way to much talent under lock down and they world of wrestling would benefit from an injection of WWE trained talent.

According to Fightful, the current mood in NXT's locker room is that roster cuts could be happening there either in January or February.

At least one of Fightful's sources speculated yesterday's releases were likely also a joke being played at The Revival's expense since WWE still won't grant their release.

One person in the company joked with us, saying "It's either a coincidence or next level f--king with The Revival that a bunch of people get granted their releases, but they can't release them because they have a title match on next weekend's show."

Also a current rumor going around the net hints these releases are more due to WWE wanting to trim roster costs and use some of that money towards notable stars with expiring contracts than them suddenly having a change of heart towards unhappy talent.

Can't really say I'd like to see any of them anywhere else. AEW really doesn't need any of them, New Japan doesn't really seem like a fit for Harper to me, and The Ascension just need to retire. WWE did a fine job of making me not care about any of them.

AEW absolutely needs Luke Harper. He could be THE big guy in their company for the near future.

AEW doesn't need anybody right now. They need to build the guys they have. Feel like he'd just be a less interesting Mox.

Harper would work absolutely anywhere. Could see him joining Suzuki-gun and becoming the new Takashi Iizuka.

He’d be WAY more interesting than most of the roster. They absolutely need more guys like him.

A bigger guy who is a better technically sound wrestler would be less interesting???

Harper looks good, works good, and cuts a good promo. He checks every box. Wherever he ends up he will be a great asset.

GOD DAMMIT no he doesn’t cut a good promo! He can’t even do a Southern accent!

I absolutely can’t see him in NWA. Too much of a small pond. But how much does he fucking fit that old school vibe?

My only fear with him in AEW is that they may job him to or at least make him on par with guys like Darby Allin or Sammy Guevara in an attempt to make them stars. I get trying to avoid being TNA and just pushing ex-WWE guys over your own but I don’t like the idea of pushing homegrown guys over guys with more potential just for the sake of not being TNA.

since harper asked for his release before aew started I see they had plans for him for when he was released just when to use him. that's what I see for the revival too.

Luke Harper's release reminds me of when THE DEVASTATOR was released from his CHW contract. Here we also had a talented big man who was a staple in the promotion. However, like WWE, CHW also had a lot of other big names in terms of big wrestlers such as "Real" Nathan Naturals and Agent Xile.

However, I am surprised at Luke Harper's release. He did not seem to be in any trouble and was just let go, I guess, because WWE is over saturated with that type of wrestler. The Devastator on the other hand lost his job for unprofessional conduct.

Interesting parallels in the wrestling world.

Technically sound? I don't think we've been watching the same Luke Harper.

I guess so because all of you seem to think he's a star.

Technically sound though is not something I'd use to describe Harper. He's a brawler and a horrible promo.

Seems Sin Cara's release might have been due to some sort of secret deal reached between him and WWE. According to Voices of Wrestling, Sin Cara had a "smoking gun" against WWE over something that happened to him there that the company did not want to be made public.

Also once you factor in the 90 days no compete clause, Luke Harper's actual availability on the indies will just be two weeks earlier than had he just simply rode out his contract. His WWE contract would have expired on March 25th while the end of his no compete clause is on March 8th.

He is more technically sound than Moxley. I will stand by that statement all day.

Didn't care much for The Ascension, but I am dissapointed for Luke and Sin Cara's release but at the same time excited at the prospect of them wrestling for AEW.

Kinda miss that TNA doesn't do the WWE pick ups anymore like they used to.
