View Full Version : Anybody here lost interest?

Anyone here lost interest in pro wrestling, especially going into 2020? If so why?
On the flip side, anyone’s interest been reinvigorated? What was the main cause of this?

I only watch one hour of wrestling a week: NWA Powerrr.
And the main cause of this is that A. I don't watch Cable TV. B. I don't have a lot of time because of work and other interests. C. Because of A and B, I have to be economical with my time. I am not going to waste it on two different brands of bad wrestling when I can watch good wrestling and enjoy what I am seeing.
I have lost a lot interest in WWE sadly. I don't feel like the E and I have 'broken up' but I don't spend as much time watching their product or talking about their product or thinking about their product as I used to.
I'm a bit worried I won't be interested in them by 2021 tbh. Not sure why I am worried by that thought either.

Haven't watched in about 4-5 years now. I occasionally watch a clip if I hear of something interesting. That's about it.

I lost so much interest last year that I barely watched anything after the Royal Rumble to Mania.
I probably won't watch anything this year.

Lost interest in keeping up with RAW/SD this year, but I've gotten really excited about NXT and AEW.
I'll still watch the Rumble (& probably This Week in WWE leading up to it), but I don't feel compelled to jump back in to the WWE main shows.

Nah, still watch WWE, Impact, AEW, NJPW, and ROH on TV. Will catch NWA and MLW here and there on YouTube. Don't really watch NXT although it DVRs every week.
Alexa's butthole whisper's to me every now and then, but other than that, I have not watched WWE in 2 months.

I haven't actively followed WWE since the Roman/Triple H main event. I'll skim thru WrestleMania every yr just for the spectacle but I have very little idea of what's going on beyond on what I read on here. And since I cancelled the network I don't follow nxt anymore, either.
I've been following AEW since their All Out show earlier this yr and have caught every ppv and dynamite episode, and I love what I've seen from them. I think people's criticism here of them are mostly valid, but I enjoy their product greatly and its different from what WWE has been putting out for ages.

I finally stopped PVRing Raw and Smackdown and it's kind of nice. Suffering for 20 years isn't worth it. I have interest in AEW but I'm not PVRing that either, I do not enjoy the flippity flippy super kick after super kick style and both companies seem to suffer because of it. At least AEW is letting guys try to have personality.
Long story short, I'm trying to stop.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I sat through an entire Raw or Smackdown and thought “I’m glad I watched that.” And that’s pretty true of most PPVs too. They’re not exciting or interesting. I have no desire to tune in wanting to see what happens next. So I’ve stopped. I’ll probably check out the Rumble since that was my favorite PPV as a kid, but weekly tv is a complete waste of time at this point.
Will still check out NXT and AEW though.

On the flip side, anyone’s interest been reinvigorated? What was the main cause of this?
I'm more interested in wrestling now than I have been for nearly twenty years but I can't say I enjoy watching most current wrestling so I tend to view matches from between 1970's to 2002/03. I like reading and listening to podcasts as much as actually watching wrestling nowadays.
I just like the history of it.
I can feel my interest waning. I don’t think I’ve watched Raw or SmackDown in full for a few weeks now. I watch NXT weekly, and catch a few clips of AEW. Genuinely more interested in watching/listening to review shows like OSW or Wrestling With Wregret or the Cultaholic Podcast. If I wasn’t sharing the Network I’d have cancelled by now.

I don't get why people watch something they don't enjoy. There's so much other wrestling out there: past and present.
Why waste your time?
I finally had reached a point where i felt like anything short of a complete overhaul of all talent. would not be good enough.
The product stink has turned into an unstoppable virus and every wrestler in the WWE is infected in my opinion.

I've somewhat kept an ear to the ground. But I really haven't paid any attention to WWE for about 6 months now. Got a fire stick and a subscription to NJPW World and I haven't looked back.
I'll put on Raw, but I can barely make the first hour. Haven't watched Smackdown since the move to Fox, ain't watched an episode of NXT.

Overall, mine is mixed but around the same level as before due to AEW picking up most of the slack from my declining interest in WWE.
In terms of WWE, been losing interest in all of WWE's shows with NXT still being the one I enjoy the most albeit not as much as before. RAW and Smackdown have become worse since the Executive Directors stuff and new tv deals kicked in, NXT lost some its special luster it used to have because WWE started getting more hands on, NXT UK is pretty much just more NXT but haven't really felt hooked in, and 205 Live has become a waste to watch.
Been enjoying AEW a lot despite its flaws and its been a great replacement for Lucha Underground. Besides that, GCW, AAA, and NJPW have mostly filled my interest for non-WWE wrestling.

Burned out on WWE months ago and for the first time since like age 12 I have stopped watching completely. Don't really feel like I am missing much.
Started watching AEW, but feel myself burning out on it as well I think..... had like 4 weeks sitting on my DVR... and when I watched it I pretty much fast forwarded all the matches and just watched the angles (promos and stuff after matches, etc). I think Chris Jericho is a big part of my interest here, and if he ever goes away I could see myself dropping AEW and not missing it either.

I completely forgot about TLC and only watched it because I had absolutely nothing better to do. It was very mediocre at best. I really love the Rumble every year and will definitely watch that.
I haven't watched anything except NXT for months (with the exception of the Smackdown and RAW where NXT people showed up and were involved before SS) and right now that's all I care to watch. I have watched some 205 live, but it's really on life support right now.

Since AEW has begun with Dynamite... I don't even PVR WWE RAW or WWE SmackDown anymore to fast forward through.
I watch Dynamite & AEW Dark exclusively.
However, I wish they would just push their newer stars... I feel like too much is unimportant. They need to deliver on The Young Bucks becoming AEW tag Team Champions, they need to deliver on Darby Allin being a star, they need to deliver on Cody Rhodes becoming AEW World Champion and Jesus Fuck they need to sell a bit more.
I cannot stand watching a guy appear to kick someones light outs out, to spike suplexing them on their heads, 450 or Shooting Star Press splashed from the top rope for only a two count before they kick out only to rebound with their own offensive moves. If you are going to hit a fucking 630, 450 or shooting star or a red arrow make damn sure its the end. There is not much more to go afterwards. And if you do, make sure it is few and far between and it is going for the guy who kicked out of the damn moves.
Like, what is the point in red arrowing someone from the top rope if it is not going to end the match? Or if you are going to need to slap on a submission move or another hold in order to finish it?
There's not... especially when you have other guys on the card doing less but it meaning so much more (Chris Jericho, Cody, Dustin).

The false finishes on big moves has bugged me for a while. Most glaring example I can think of right now is Seth Rollins with his superplex to falcon arrow combo.
That should finish a match instead of being just a spot.

Like many, my focus has shifted away from main roster WWE. Raw and Smackdown pretty much suck, and they have no intention on righing those ships. NXT is where it's at, and are dancing on that razor blade of either staying the loveable darling to "is WWE going to ruin them, too?" simply from being shifted to being actual televised counterprogramming to specifically fuck with AEW.
AEW and NWA have taken the shine from the internally crumbling RoH and the "how are they still alive?" Impact Wrestling. And then, there's NJPW, that is starting to make inroads into the US - and I don't even mean the LA Dojo and upcoming US division plans, I mean they have gotten more and more eyes on the product globally instead of being this mystical and insular continuity unto itself.
For everything that sucks, there is something else growing from the ashes to love. To quote a book a loathe: "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times."

Yeah, lots. Was really interested and behind AEW. The concept of AEW itself (an alternative with significant capital) is something I completely support, but the execution of it has just made me so tired and bored of everything. It highlights how shit WWE is, but it itself is pretty bad, so it's just like...wrestling is in a hole for me.
I want to be excited for Wrestle Kingdom. I think I am for Okada vs. Ibushi and Jericho vs. Tanahashi. That's something, at least. But my real joy is going to be if Jericho goes into the show as champion, loses to Jericho, and Orton rips the company apart online.

I assume you mean of AEW guys.
The attitude era was weird, a dinosaur gimmick might have gotten incredibly over, then again it might have completely flopped. He is big enough and has a unique enough skill set though that he would have at least have had a chance.
MJF on the other hand is far too small. As far as his Mic skills, in the attitude era everybody cursed and said outlandish stuff, so he likely would have been just another guy lost in the shuffle. As far as the 80's, he would have been a manager who bumped like Bobby Heenan. He would have thrived there.

I quit WWE in mid-2016 because my work hours changed and I had to start getting up in the morning and never looked back. I'd still subscribe to the network and watch the PPVs if they gave me a reason to.
My peak was probably 2015-2017 when Revolution Pro Wrestling had Marty Scurll, Zack Sabre Jr and Will Ospreay every show, as well as a host of great ROH and NJPW talent. I went to at least 11 shows (between RevPro, WCPW, Progress and ROH) in 2017 alone. I was heavily invested in pretty much every New Japan show that year. If I was any good at sticking to a TV viewing schedule I probably would have watched other shows too.
NXT/NXT UK and other guys moving on to New Japan, ROH and beyond have pretty much killed a lot of my interest in the local scene right now, ROH is in the toilet, and despite owning half of wrestling, WWE is still way too bad to invest my time in, so I've scaled back to watching the most essential NJPW shows and Dynamite when I remember.
I love wrestling, but any fandom has peaks and troughs.

Me.
Too many good wrestlers, and women I cant have sex with wrestling. Not enough horrible gimmicks, bad in the ring hosses, and extremely ridiculous storylines.
Distinct lack of Albert Vs Mideon Doggie Treats on a pole match, and storylines where Rick Steiner has decided to wear a dress and no one is allowed to say anything and must pretend he is not wearing a dress until there is a SWERVE and Billy Kidman brings out a mirror which ends in A SWERVE as the mirror is actually a photograph of Scott Steiner and ends up with Rick Steiner saying, "I didn't know you Scott and me were twins!".
Basically not enough stuff to make me laugh and too much actual, good wrestling, which bores me.
