I was willing to give the Nightmare Collective stuff a pass, since AEW and the Elite have done a really phenomenal job so far paying off stuff long-term even if it was rough at the beginning. I think there's still potential in the whole Nightmare Collective idea, because having a faction in the women's division with factions everywhere else makes sense.

But Brandi burying literally everything in a ten mile radius in the first ten seconds on commentary is inexcusable.

Also: That episode overall was bad. The Brotherhood / Lucha Bros match was good and the ending segment was a little overly long but good.

Everything else was somewhere between okay and awful. This felt way more like an episode of Raw or Smackdown than AEW. They usually do a good job of course correcting after something like this, but I am not going to remember much of this episode in two weeks.

Probably wouldn't go as far in terms of comparisons but it was a very uneven show in terms of quality. 2nd hour was great but first hour was very weak.

Like they took last week's blueprint for a great show but put their weakest stuff for the storybuilding portion. Had they cut back on the Nightmare Collective shenanigans, the women's title match could have been a lot better.

Same for the flat ending to Sammy vs Daniels match because of how forced the Pentagon interruption spot felt. Could have taken that out but still keep the Dark Order stuff since that was more effective for heel heat.

Women's title match was weird. Was watching with a friend and we were both confused as to why the match continued once Riho was thrown into the barricade. Actually thought it was over but they continued the match like nothing happened.

However, your sheer inability to acknowledge AEW's quality is bizarre. Especially, when you're failing to truly acknowledge, or at least you continue to openly defend/appreciate, the (at best equally) ridiculous, formulaic, pathetic, pointless/meaninglessness that is NXT (just like the rest of the WWE programming), vs AEW.

At this point, I'm beginning to doubt your ability to actually enjoy wrestling, at least going forward, or, you haven't ever actually enjoyed it outside of it being a popular fad. That pains mean to say, and I don't say it lightly, as I generally, 1. agree with your takes, and 2. I don't question/doubt anyone's enjoyment/appreciation of anything. Hang on, I'm not "devoted" to NXT, lol. I haven't watched in some time. I just think that WWE obviously have the much better strategy, and I've called bullshit on the anti-WWE rhetoric you see spouted off by Meltzer and Alvarez to make the AEW guys look just and pure and WWE look like disorganized, petty idiots. And that's actually proving to be true. NXT narrowed the gap on AEW and has overtaken them once they cooled off just like I predicted. I don't think my criticisms of AEW are irrational at all. I watched this week, and I fucking hated the show almost in its entirety. Daniels did some fine stuff with Guevara. Jericho is a pretty good actor, but that ending segment went on for fucking YONKS and was exactly the same sort of shit you'd see in WWE. Instead of Mitch the Plant, you've got Jake Hager the Plant. But it's exactly the same shit. The only way this is different to WWE is that WWE would iron a lot of this shit out before it got to television. Yes, it would be sterile and boring -- but it wouldn't be this...bad.

* PAC attacked Michael Nakazawa...for the second time. They just ignored the first time. This doesn't make sense and there's no defense for it. It's just bad creative.

* Brandi Rhodes shitting on her own company on commentary. "She's not an alien." Then why do you present her as an alien? I can't believe I had to type that. "I'd rather take a nap than watch this match." Me too.

* We're not going to do an interference finish. Wait, just kidding -- yes, we are.

* Can any of the women in the division throw a forearm?

* Daniels doing shtick is exactly the sort of thing I'd want to escape from in WWE.

* The Dark Order are still around. Hokey evil villain promo. It'd be mocked in WWE. Their costumes would look better in WWE.

* The Lucha Bros. cannot work US style tags. They were so fucking bad in this match. At one point, Pentagon got back dropped to the apron, landed on his feet and was stunned just because. Then when Dustin got the "hot tag," Pentagon just climbed up to the second rope to get hurricanrana'd off...because.

* MJF starting his promo too early. Love me some MJF, but these fuck-ups are just awkward.

* DDP being one of the most over guys still is sad, but it was good to see him. It wasn't good to see him doing Diamond Cutters underwater and dragging MJF down.

* Best Friends fucking suck. Marko Stunt fucking sucks. This was my first time seeing Luchasaurus in a proper way. He did a lot of kicks and they looked awkward as hell. I like Jungle Boy, but this fucking sucked.

* I know Kip Sabian is actually fucking Penelope Ford, but I've never seen someone who is actually getting laid give off such virgin vibes.

* Main event WWE-style segment that went on too long and was overly complicated. How hard was it to just have Mox say no and kick Jericho's ass?

I'm probably forgetting some shit, but overall I thought this was bad television. A lot of the acts are really bush league and amateurish. A lot of guys really trying to force acts that don't connect. No one really works to the crowd, and shit just happens because.

I don't have to like this shit just because it's not WWE. I was really optimistic about this thing heading in. I created the AEW thread. They've disappointed me and now even the stuff I like there just breaks my heart to watch struggle for a solid log in a sea full of shit.

I haven't watched NXT. I probably won't. But I have a feeling it would have been a much more consistent and less offensive show than this one. Some of the shit AEW is bad in execution, and that's upsetting because you should be able to do the shit you're trying to do, but a lot of it is fucking awful in conception too. How does this shit get past a production meeting?

There's a reason NXT seems to have turned around the ratings on them, and there's a reason AEW has lost about half its initial viewers. One insults your intelligence, the other doesn't. I can understand why people are desperate for AEW to work. I do. This is probably the best chance wrestling has had of getting out from under Vince McMahon's thumb. But AEW is not the product to do it. I'm sorry, but it's not.

Noid dislikes a few things, and his motive gets questioned, yet every other post in this thread is complaining about stuff WWE does, and nobody blinks an eye. Even when AEW does something you don't like, like Brandi being a jerk on commentary, it's "Cole, Corey, and Renee" this and that.

I said it last week, but there is some real AEW Stockholm Syndrome going on.

Anyways, not a lot stood out this episode. I am encouraged that they realized Adam Page wasn't really getting over like they wanted, and have added another layer to him. I think they should focus on that overall going forward.

I have enjoyed every single episode of AEW Dynamite.

Stockholm Syndrome would be saying the majority of WWE programming is good or enjoyable when it's not. Brandi at the commentary booth during the overbooked women's match, which I had been looking forward to, was a blunder tonight - a blunder at the level of bad booking it reminded me of WWE programming - thus referencing it is solid.

Nah, I completely get the Stockholm Syndrome thing. Wrestling fans are masochists. The one who still follow. I don't say that with any disapproval -- I'm in that group too. Most people who set healthy boundaries and expectations for content left long ago. Wrestling fans will accept anything because their standards are so low.

Daniels' whole shtick as a babyface is to shit on the town he's in. He gets the crowd to chant along by saying that where they are sucks. It's a silly little thing, but I think that actually highlights the mentality of modern wrestling fans. We're gluttons for punishment. Insult us, Daddy.

WWE sucks. I'm not doubting that. But so much of this AEW shit would be on WWE television, blasted, and no one would think twice. The Dark Order are a low-rent Wyatt Family. Brandi Rhodes is doing Stephanie McMahon. SCU are The New Day. Jericho vs. Moxley is Jericho vs. Ambrose. There hasn't been a great match by smark standards since they've been on TV. Silliness aside, there hasn't been a single match that would look out of place on Main Event.

It's WWE wrestling with a PWG mentality. And it's got a real whiff of that Russo. Shit just doesn't make sense, is dropped, picked up, etc. I wouldn't say the shows are as boring as I'd expect WWE to be, but they make about as much sense and are so underwhelming. Even the shit I care about is fucking neutered to fuck.

MJF is excellent. Why is he talking during the breaks? Why the fuck are they giving Arn Anderson lines that get him booed in 2020. Booing Arn Anderson. Fuck. And where the fuck was Cody in that segment and how does it make any sense? Can anyone make heads of tails or that?

And I'm not saying that people are saying that AEW is perfect. I know, I know -- we welcome fair criticism, blah, blah. That shit was egregious though. It makes zero sense. It's not for me. That's all.

People are hypocrites. They're allowed to be. It's fine to love AEW and hate WWE. That's totally your prerogative and your taste. But don't try and make me feel like an asshole because I see this shit and I'm like "hang on..."

My favorite part, and this is honest, is when JR made fun of Tony Shiavone (I think it was during one of the breaks), and he said that Tony has his hands in his pockets too, but he cut out the bottoms long ago.

Oh I dunno... Im pretty sure if we played crappy wrestling Bingo you could attribute almost all of those faults to WWE at some point recently let alone throughout there company history. I mean when it comes to creepy forced characters last I checked the WWE champ wrestled under a red light because hes so spooky...

As far as being forced acts that don't connect I dont think thats unrealistic to expect in a very new company trying to setup who everyone is and what there motivation in the AEW universe is.

I havent seen any AEW yet (not showing in NZ and I havent got to downloading any) but its got my attention, I read results, I follow the social and watch clips because it seems to have promise. All three main WWE shows show at least twice a week on T.V. here and I havent been able to sit through more than 20 minutes of one in years now.

Just watched this show..... and by watch, I mean I fast-forwarded through most of it.... stopped and watched the end of the women's match and the Nightmare Collective stuff.... didn't hear Brandi on commentary so I can't say anything about that, but.... I liked the Nightmare Collective stuff and I think it is what the women's division needs to actually make me care about it somewhat.

Beginning to think "less and less" of MJF the more I see him talk... maybe he'll be as good as people are saying he is in a few years, but right now he just isn't.... By the way, it is so weird that Cody wanted MJF so bad, but then is going to take a week to think about it instead of instantly accepting and being "fired up" about it. Also "weird" at how MJF calling Cody out and JR is all "he's not here" when he was literally just in the ring before... he then did try to say he was in the trainer's room, which I can buy I guess.... but then DDP is getting beat down and Dustin comes out... with Cody still nowhere to be seen.... they were in the same match, why couldn't Cody run out there too?

Also didn't mention this last week, but not a fan of Arn Anderson being Cody's manager..... I know I said I liked the Nightmare Collective stuff, but Brandi (and Cody) would have been much better off staying as Cody's valet. I know Arn is a "legend", but Cody looks more "legit" with a hot braud by his side than an old man, and also with Brandi out there they could still announce him as CODY with brandi RHODES!!!

The Mox/Jericho thing went on way too long, it was obvious that Mox was gonna say no. Hopefully with all this out of the way they can get this feud back on track and make it a good one. I'm one of the only ones here who seemed to really enjoy their WWE feud and matches, so I'm looking forward to it.

Apparently the Nightmare Collective stuff ended up being one of the few things that actually increased viewers during the show.

Also ended up being more popular than what NXT was airing at the same time and their women's match prior to it.

The second quarter saw AEW lost 69,000 viewers for the ending of Omega & Page vs. Private Party and the post-match stuff. NXT lost 48,000 viewers for the bulk of the women’s six-person and a Tommaso Ciampa video package.

The third quarter saw AEW gain 17,000 viewers for Riho vs. Kris Statlander and all the post-match stuff with the Nightmare Collective. NXT lost 48,000 for The Forgotten Sons vs. Imperium in the Dusty Rhodes tag team tournament.

That helped as well since going by the Observer's breakdowns, NXT went straight downwards during the entire show except for the over run.

AEW had a few gains to prevent the same from happening and only one in the first hour which was that women's title match with the Nightmare Collective's shenanigans.

Haven’t been watching for a while now as I’ve soured on AEW. I watched the Moxley/Jericho segment though. Thought it was great. Yeah, it was cliche but that’s not always necessarily an issue in wrestling. Especially when the performers are as good as Jericho and Moxley. Moxley is the kind of star I’ve missed in wrestling and I’m actually invested in his quest to take the title off of Jericho.

Still can’t bring myself to care about the Darby Allins, Joey Janelas, etc. And from reading results, it seems like they’re still way too intent on nearly every match being ultra competitive. But as for the main event, I wanna follow this story and I really wanna see the match.

I'm a pretty big wrestling fan, but when NXT UK people show up, they are mostly treated as if we all know who they are, which is a mistake.

Imperium for example, I know Walter, and I know Wolfe from Sanity, but I wouldn't recognize Fabian if he was talking to me, and I can't even think of the other guy's name right now.

Kaylee Ray, had no idea who she was before she showed up on NXT like it was a huge deal.

I think WWE thinks they are using NXT UK people for star power, but most of them don't have any unless you really watch UK wrestling.

Pair that with putting the unknowns up against jobbers like the Forgotten Sons, well of course people are going to check out the alternative. I certainly did.

NXT UK pretty much took over NXT's spot of WWE ignoring its existence unless the brand is needed for a storyline or big reason.

Also doesn't help that WWE has been terrible at developing any sort of real bridge between the NXT brands and NXT with the main roster over the years.
